1 Propwash October 2006 Presidents Repor t The highlight of the last few weeks was the Sept Scale Rally which had a big turnout on the Sunday with near perfect flying conditions prevailing. However whilst the event was a success from a public relations point of view we only just broke even financially. This was partly due to having to hire a ladies toilet and also having to buy in quite a lot of food. Tracey did a great job organizing the food but it was hoped that members would have better supported the event and helped provide more food. On the Sunday we actually ran out of supplies due to large unexpected crowd! Car parking was also an issue with more space required in the future to get the cars safely parked out of the way. The conclusion to this is that we have to learn from this event and be better organised next time as it seems that the crowds are getting larger as we are in a high growth population area. The fields and supporting facilities were extremely well prepared thanks mainly to Larry and his dedicated band of helpers. However, it always seems to be the same people helping each time so please everyone try to pitch in at these events and help out its only once or twice a year so its not a big ask really. The raffle raised quite a sum and the winner was John Harris who kindly donated his prize to the club. The other event this year is the 30 year reunion and Xmas party on the 12th November which Ian and Larry are organising. Due to the large numbers anticipated for this event ( !) it is proposed that the main reunion meal will be held at the Elgin Hall where the food will be provided by caterers. Morning tea will be provided by Selwyn at the field and remember that this is a fun fly so please bring whatever models you wish. Ian is putting together a 30 year history of the club which will be shown on video and available on CD as well. Other news is that the club has purchased a new electric fence unit which will be connected up to allow the cows to come into the field and eat the longer unmowed grass. This is a cheaper option than trying to slash and has to be done once a year as part of bush fire prevention rules. So please be careful if you see any electric fences around the field as they could well be on. Talking of mowing the new ride on mower has been well received and is a big asset to the club many thanks to Bob and Blair of the Bunbury Flying School for the donation and of course to Larry for the refurbishment. 3 Scale Rally at SWARMS, Bunbury Page 3 The annual Scale Rally and Fly in was held over the long weekend in October. The event was very well attended by pilots and spectators with numbers exceeding initial expectations. Several pilots brought their own accommodation in the form of a caravan which was great to see. On Saturday the weather was overcast with a moderate westerly wind blowing. A number of pilots took to the air, particularly those with larger models that could negotiate the windier An F16 by Neil Giggins. conditions. In the afternoon a television was set up so that none of the action of the Footy Grand Final was missed by those attending who enjoyed cheering for their favourite team. Sunday saw a perfect Spring morning with calm conditions and perfect flying weather. Many A more pilots arrived and overall it was estimated that 30 pilots flew with over 50 planes on display. Crowd numbers exceeded 100 people. The canteen was busy cooking up morning teas and lunches, and the crowd was appreciative of the flying displays of all pilots. Several jets took to the air and amazed the crowd with their Scott Pittick s ¼ scale Quickie powered by a OS46FX with a Perry Pump. Holtz D12 WWI German fighter by Greg McClure. There were also many scale warbirds on display and some took to the air in spectacular fashion with low passes and looping rolls to the delight of spectators. Monday s weather was a copy of Sunday s and a few pilots who had stayed overnight enjoyed the perfect flying conditions. Overall the weekend was a great success.
