3 The Welkom RC Arena is very proud to be the host of the 2018 IFMAR Electric On-Road Worlds Championship. Welkom RC arena is very excited to welcome all participants and guests to the stunning new facility which is being constructed with the highest quality and comfort in mind. The facility is designed with all forms of RC racing in mind as well as spectator comfort. Already being a well known and respected RC destination in South Africa the Welkom RC Arena is poised to provide one of the greatest RC racing spectacles for the 2018 year and beyond. The Welkom arena facility has evolved from an initial outdoor racing facility to an indoor facility, now with an all new building to house an indoor asphalt on-road race track. With changeable layouts in mind the track aims to cater to 1:12th, 1:10 and 1:8th scale electric and nitro spec RC vehicles respectively. With South Africa having hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup the country s infrastructure has been well prepared and upgraded for tourism and ease of access to all. The town of Welkom has previously been host to Moto GP events in the past also indicating that it has functioning infrastructure and facilities to efficiently and comfortably host an event such as the IFMAR 2018 Worlds. 4 Route from OR Thambo International Airport, Johannesburg: Figure 1: Fastest route from O.R. Thambo airport to Welkom RC Arena. The Welkom RC Arena is situated 250 km south west of O.R. Thambo, the country s largest international airport and Johannesburg, the country s largest economic hub. By car the journey to the racing facility from O.R. Thambo airport will take approximately 2 hours and 46 minutes (traffic permitting).

Thambo Int Airport to Welkom RC Arena Race track/circuit: The facility contains two main arena areas, an outdoor off-road track and an indoor asphalt on-road track. The indoor building/ facility will be the part of the facility hosting the event with the circuit offering changeable layouts for both 1:10th and 1:12th scale competitions. The facility has been designed with provisions for an indoor shop, media centre, registration area, scrutineering area, spectator area and pitting area.
