Matt started karting when he was 10, competing in races at his local track at Sandown Park. At the age of 16 he made the move to cars, competing in the BARC Westfield Championship. In his first full season he finished 3rd in the championship, picking up his first podium finish at the age of 17. His first win came at the age of 18 at Snetterton in his second season. He followed this up with a win at Oulton Park. In 2009 Matt returned to the Ginetta G20 Challenge for Flowers Motorsport in Both Matt and the car steadily improved, finishing 5th in 2010, 3rd in 2011 and taking the title in 2012 with 9 wins along the way.
