1 2017 Fall Classic Cards HISTORY MAKER BASEBALL Big League Baseball Game Let s keep this short and sweet! Just a couple things before you begin playing Rosters. Post-season rosters for baseball are a funny thing. Some guys played a lot, and didn t get included on the roster. EXAMPLE: Mike Fiers pitched more innings than any other pitcher but wasn t included on the post-season roster! In any case, we will let YOU make the roster decisions. Each team includes all players on the actual WS roster, plus all players (like Fiers) who made a significant contribution to the team s season. Justin Verlander. How does a guy like Verlander get a card with with just one lonely pitching quality? Well, it s an interesting story. He was right on the borderline for and on 8/11, but missed by 0.06 ERA and missed by four walks. Bad break for him. But look at his qualities he s earned pitching for DETROIT thru 8/11: HOUSTON ONLY:,, DB, DB Clearly the guy is on a hot streak! Still, in our view, there s something to be said for leaving him. After all, suppose he DIDN T get traded to? Or suppose he was traded to a bottom-feeder club like Philadelphia, or perhaps wasn t traded at all? Would he have performed at the HOUSTON ONLY levels? Doubt it. Our In-Season cards deviate from real-life starting 8/11, so that s where our In-Season history should start. In that light, we feel as though we should leave him as-is. If you disagree, you can give him the HOUSTON ONLY qualities we won t mind! Or, you can find a middle ground with his combined qualities for BOTH teams, which would grade out at,,. Umpires. We ve included all seven umpires (Gerry Davis, Phil Cuzzi, Paul Nauert, Laz Diaz, Bill Miller, Dan Iassogna, and Mark Wegner), even though there are only four umpire slots called for by the game charts. Umpires are rated same as the players, based on numbers through August 11th. You ll notice that there s a surplus of the STRICT quality, and a scarcity of LENIENT and QUESTIONABLE.
