1 MEDIA INFORMATION Potomac Nationals (18-18, T-2nd, 6.0 GB) Carolina League Affiliate of the Washington Nationals vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (17-20, 5th, 7.5 GB) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Game No. 38 Road Game No. 18 Pfitzner Stadium Monday, May 15, :05 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: 7-10 STREAK: W 3 LAST 5: 4-1 LAST 10: 7-3 ROCKS ON A ROLL: The Wilmington Blue Rocks took care of the Frederick Keys in a Mother s Day doubleheader sweep slugging their way to a 10-2 win in the first game before holding on for a 3-1 victory in the second contest Sunday afternoon at Frawley Stadium. It was Wilmington s first sweep of a twin bill and it also completed the Blue Crew s first series sweep of the season. The Blue Rocks have tied their seasonhigh win streak at three games. MILLER LIVING ON BASE: Anderson Miller extended his on-base streak to 29 games on Sunday. It is the longest of his professional career, topping his 16-gamer last season with Low-A Lexington. It marks the longest on-base streak by a Blue Rocks hitter since Eric Hosmer reached in 33 straight in Nicky Lopez quietly has a current 15-game on-base streak. Roman Collins and D.J. Burt both had 13-game on-base streaks earlier this season for the Rocks. Miller did have his 12-game hitting streak end on Friday, which was the longest by a Blue Rock this season. During the streak the secondyear Blue Rock hit.404 with four homers and 14 RBI and raised his batting average by 95 points. He bounced back on Sunday going a combined 5-for-7 during the doubleheader with a homer and two RBI. LOVING THE LONG BALL: Over the Blue Rocks first 26 games of the season the Blue Crew had hit just 11 home runs, the second-fewest in the Carolina League. But over the last 11 games Wilmington has blasted 13 more long balls. Anderson Miller has clubbed four of the homers over this stretch. Miller has six on the season after hitting just three during the entire second half with Wilmington last year. Chase Vallot is not far off of Miller s scorching pace, hitting three homers during Wilmington s power surge. Cody Jones has also clobbered two during the stretch, which is impressive considering the outfielder only has three during his entire professional career. Elier Hernandez, Roman Collins, Jecksson Flores and Wander Franco each added one more. PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Chris DeVito picked up three more hits in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday and has been off to a fast start to begin is Advanced-A career. In his four games since joining the Blue Crew, the first baseman is hitting.429 (6-for-14) with two RBI. He joined the Rocks last Thursday from Low-A Lexington to replace Elier Hernandez, who was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Hernandez had been named Carolina League Player of the Week just prior to his promotion. With Lexington, DeVito hit.347 with 11 homers and 38 RBI through his first 30 games. The slugging first baseman led the South Atlantic League in home runs, hits (42), RBI, extra-base hits (21), and slugging percentage (.702). TONS OF TIGHT GAMES: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina League-high 20 one-run games so far in No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more than 13 single-score affairs, and no team in Minor League Baseball has played in more. Unfortunately for Wilmington, the Rocks are just 8-12 in such contests, but have won four in a row. Wilmington has also played in six extra innings affairs already in two more than any other Carolina League club. The Rocks are just 2-4 in those games not completed in regulation. Wilmington is also only 8-7 when scoring the game s first run (every other team in the league is at least four games above.500 when taking the game s first lead). THEY SAID IT, MANAGER JAMIE QUIRK: We are playing well right now. The pitching has been outstanding. Offensively, we have done some nice things. (Anderson) Miller is hot; (Chris) DeVito has been great since he got here; (Roman) Collins hit a big home run off a lefty pitcher. It was a very good offensive showing in the first game. In the second game, we scored just enough. It was a nice home run by Miller to give us that two-run cushion and it made us breathe a little easier. Again, (Jared) Ruxer was outstanding in a spot start and (Jake) Kalish was outstanding at coming in and finishing it off. (Anderson Miller) is just gradually getting more comfortable. He started off a little slow and kept getting his walks. This streak, I know about it, but no one is talking about it (on Miller s 29 game on-base streak). He has settled in and for a couple of weeks now he just keeps hitting hard on the nose with power. He looks really good right now...(chris DeVito) is a presence. I think it has helped Miller tremendously, who hits in front of him. Other teams have to respect the big man hitting behind him and Miller is getting a lot of pitches to hit and he is doing something with them. DeVito is a lefthanded power guy that is a good hitter and he just adds a presence there that makes everyone around him comfortable... We are playing Potomac who we know very well and then we turn around and play these guys (Frederick) again. Both series are in the division so they are big games. We are playing good right now. I expect to show up tomorrow, get on the bus in the morning to go to Potomac, and I expect to play well. Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Tonight s Starters RHP Joan Baez (1-4, 5.74 ERA) vs. RHP Scott Blewett (1-3, 4.05 ERA) Scott Blewett was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, which was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two rounds since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). The six-foot-six 210-pounder is the sixthranked prospect in the Kansas City Royals system according to Baseball America. Scouts love his fastball, which consistently sits in the mid-90s. His curveball has improved dramatically since joining the Royals system, while scouts have noticed consistent progress with his changeup as well. Blewett spent the last two seasons in Low-A Lexington, shaving almost a full run off his ERA in 2016 (from 5.20 to 4.31). He also missed a lot of bats last season, fanning 121 in 129 innings pitched. Growing up just outside of Syracuse, Blewett committed to play college ball at St. John s, before the Royals doled out a reported $1.8 million signing bonus ($800,000 above slot). Blewett faced Potomac in each of his first two Advanced-A starts, allowing nine runs, 14 hits, three homers and five walks in 9.1 frames of a no-decision and a loss. After a sterling three-start string where he allowed just one run on 12 hits over 19 innings in games against Winston- Salem, Buies Creek and Down East, Blewett allowed a seasonhigh six earned runs in 5.2 frames last week against Potomac. Signed out of the Dominican Republic for $7,500 in 2014, Joan Baez got off to a rough start at Low-A Hagerstown in 2015 and continued to struggle after a demotion to the New York-Penn League, which resulted in another demotion back to the Gulf Coast League. But Baez rebounded with Hagerstown last season, going 9-7 with a 3.97 ERA and 119 strikeouts in innings pitched. According to MLB.com, the 6-foot-3 right-hander has big-time arm strength, working at mph and topping out at 96 with his fastball, which is why he is the 20th-ranked prospect in the Washington system. But Baez velocity is inconsistent because he struggles to repeat his delivery. That said, scouts say Baez is just starting to grow into his wiry frame, and they envision him sitting in the mid-to upper-90s once he s fully developed. His curveball is steadily improving, but his changeup is still a work in progress. Baez struggled with command in his first start against the Rocks, walking seven while allowing six runs (four earned) in only 3.2 frames during an April 14 loss at Pfitzner Stadium. He issued four more walks, but allowed only one run over five frames in a win at Wilmington last week. Baez has walked 27 in 26.2 frames on the season Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. POT Date Site Result WP LP Save 4-6 WIL PPD (5/10) 4-7 WIL W, 6-2 Griffin (1-0) Reyes (0-1) 4-8 WIL L, 4-3 (F/12) Bacus (1-0) Machado (1-0) 4-9 WIL L, 8-7 Crownover (1-0) Ruxer (0-1) Orlan (1) 4-13 POT L, 6-4 Silvestre (1-0) Blewett (0-1) Borne (1) 4-14 POT W, 4-3 Ogando (1-0) Rodriguez (0-1) Machado (1) 4-15 POT W, 6-3 Puckett (1-1) Baez (0-1) Terrero (1) 4-16 POT W, 5-4 (F/11) Ruxer (1-1) Newberry (0-1) Machado (2) 5-9 WIL W, 3-2 Marte (1-2) Pena (1-1) 5-10 WIL L, 6-1 Baez (1-4) Blewett (1-3) 5-10 G2 WIL W, 3-2 (F/11) Cramer (1-0) Held (0-2) 5-11 WIL L, 8-4 Reyes (2-5) Puckett (3-3) 5-15 POT 5-16 POT 5-17 POT 5-18 POT 5-26 WIL 5-27 WIL 5-28 WIL 5-29 WIL 7-7 POT 7-8 POT 7-9 POT 7-10 POT 7-16 WIL 7-17 WIL 7-18 WIL Tuesday, May 16, at Potomac, 7:05 p.m. LHP Colin Rodgers (0-1, 3.38 ERA) vs. RHP Luis Reyes (2-5, 6.27 ERA) WGLS-FM 89.7 Wednesday May 17, at Potomac, 7:05 p.m RHP A.J. He hit.262 three home runs and drove in 11 RBI. Entering 2017, the 19-year old outfielder has been named the best hitter for average, best athlete, best defensive outfielder ad best outfield arm in Washington s farm system per Baseball America. Joining Robles is third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez (#16 prospect in system). Last year he had pit stops in Short-Season Auburn and Low-A Hagerstown. He hit.301 in 105 games prior to his promotion to Potomac. In a small sample size of ten games, he hit.237 with a pair of extra-base hits. Other position players that rank in the Top 30 Prospects in the Nats system are shortstop Edwin Lora (#23) and outfielder Telmito Agustin (#28). On the mound, the P-Nats have six new hurlers in their pitching staff. RHP Joan Baez (#29) is the only pitcher on the 2017 squad in the Top- 30 prospects according to Baseball America. The hard-throwing righty has been clocked at triple digits, reaching 100 m.p.h. on the radar gun. He spent all of last year with Low-A Hagerstown and posted a 9-7 record with a 3.94 ERA. The P-Nats pitching staff also consists of Mariano Rivera III, the son of former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. Rivera III was originally drafted by the Yankees in 2014 but didn t sign. The Nationals selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 draft out of Iona (NY). The younger Rivera has collected 13 saves in 19 opportunities through his first two seasons in professional baseball. There is a lot of international talent on the P-Nats roster. There are ten Dominican-born players on the roster, including all five starting pitchers for the P-Nats. In addition, the highly touted prospects all hail from the Dominican Republic. So far in the 2017 head-to-head series, the Blue Rocks lead 6-5 through the first 11 games played. Of those contests, seven have been decided by two runs or less. The Rocks have taken five of the last seven against Potomac.

3 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #45 RHP Scott Blewett Acquired: Drafted in 2nd round in MLB Draft in 2014 out of Baker H.S. (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) Born: Syracuse, N.Y. Age: 21 (April 10, 1996) Resides: Baldwinsville, N.Y. Ht: 6 6 Wt: 210 College: N/A Bats/Throws: R/R Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Changeup, Curveball SCOTT BLEWETT: Scott Blewett was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, which was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two rounds since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). The six-foot-six 210-pounder is the sixth-ranked prospect in the Kansas City Royals system according to Baseball America. After a sterling three-start string where he allowed just one run on 12 hits over 19 innings in games against Winston-Salem, Buies Creek and Down East, Blewett allowed a seasonhigh six earned runs in 5.2 frames last week against Potomac. JACK OF ALL TRADES: Growing up in northern New York the conditions were not exactly ideal for a young, budding baseball star, but Blewett refused to let that get in his way. When it was too cold to play baseball as a kid, the Syracuse native embraced other sports to sharpen his competitive spirit. In an age of hyper-specialization in youth sports, Blewett now sees the positives from diversification. A big thing a lot of people said is I would be fresh once I get to pro ball because I won t have nearly as many innings under my belt Blewett says. I was a three-sport athlete and I got a chance to get different perspectives from different games. I was able to compete in other atmospheres. I know a lot of guys in California and the south where it s baseball all year round. I ran cross country and ran 5K s. It doesn t sound that fun but it was exhilarating because you re competing with that guy in front of you. When I was younger I played hockey and then in high school (I played) basketball (because) of my height, so you had that element of competition. Ultimately in the spring it was baseball. Once I got to my junior and senior year it was strictly baseball. But the earlier experience gives you that competitive edge. So now for me in pro ball when I m competing for a position or on a roster I had the edge, because I understand how to compete. SCAPULA ISSUES IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR: Blewett had a health scare near the end of his high school career which he says came from a lack of understanding of the importance of arm maintenance. In high school I never did any shoulder work. When I got to pro ball that was something that was really emphasized and I found out I had made a big mistake. But in high school Blewett was at a showcase in the south and that mistake caught up to him. I was down in Florida and throwing in warm weather and I think I threw the hardest I ever threw. I had a lot of scouts watching, a lot of adrenaline, and I was overthrowing and doing a lot of things that I probably shouldn t be doing that was detrimental to my body and ultimately mu health. When I went back to New York in colder weather I pitched in a game and felt some shoulder fatigue. I pulled myself out of the game, which I d never done before. He went to the doctor and after lots of tests the diagnosis was- -in his words-- a really week scapula. It took me a few months to rehab to get back to maximum strength. Once we got to that point I knew I had to change some things both approach wise and work wise. From high school to now I ve worked on maintaining the strength in my scapula. SCOTT S CHOICE: A lot of guys forego college to play pro baseball, but not everyone has the kind of perspective as a teenager that Blewett brought to the decision. As a young kid I always said I wanted to play professional baseball and that was my dream. I jumped into it and chased it hard. I ve always been someone that can t go into one thing and concentrate on another thing. With school, education was always focused on when I was in high school. It was always about making sure you get your work done then focus on baseball. It s a lot easier to handle things in that atmosphere, but once I got to college I knew the work was going to get much harder and the competition was going to get harder. So I said hey if I can get into pro ball I d have one focus. If I went to college I would have two goals, graduate and hopefully get drafted again. So the tall righty decided to turn all of his attention toward making a living at the sport he loves Appearances (Wilmington) The Book on Blewett (2017) At Home: 0-1, 4.86 ERA 3G/3GS On the Road: 1-2, 3.47 ERA 4G/4GS LH Opp Avg:.350 RH Opp Avg:.176 Record when he pitches: 1-3 Wilmington Record when he starts: 1-6 Run Support (overall): 21 Run Support (starting): 3.0 ERA: 4.05 Season-High K s: 6, Salem Red Sox) Career-High K s: 10, 2x (Last: West Virginia Power) Last Win: Down East Wood Ducks Last Loss: 5/10/17 vs. Potomac Nationals Most IP, 2017: 7 IP, (5/4/17 at Down East Wood Ducks) Most IP, Career: 7 IP, 5x (Last: Down East Wood Ducks) Career Numbers Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP 2014/Burlington /Lexington /Lexington Wilmington Totals Date OPP G GS DEC ERA IP H R ER BB SO HR HBP WP Score Upon Exit Result Notes 4/8/17 POT T, 3-3 POT, 4-3 (F/12) 1st career start at High-A 2 2 L POT, 4-3 POT, WIL, 5-4 SAL, 6-5 4/23/17 WS T, 0-0 WS, 1-0 1st shutout start of L BC, 1-0 BC, W WIL, 9-0 WIL, 10-0 Longest start of season 5/10/17 POT 7 7 L POT, 6-1 POT, 6-1 Most ER allowed in start in 17

They said it: Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out...it took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started last season in Lexington I didn t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped... I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs...working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out... I know Brandon Phillips doesn t really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well. #15 Chris DeVito INF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 220 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Northridge, CA LG: 0-for-3 Homestand:.429 (6-for-14), 3R, 2B, 2RBI, BB, SO Notes: Selected in the 8th round of the 2016 June MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of New Mexico. Hit.347 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. -Led the South Atlantic League with his 11 HRs, hits (42), RBI, XBH (21) and SLG (.702) -Also was tied for third in the league with his.347 contact-clip. -In his last game with LEX on 5/8 he picked up his first, career four-hit game. (4-for-5, HR) 2016 Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.261 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 60 games. Led the team in both HR and was ranked second in the league in RBI. They said it: (On what led to great success in Lexington to start the season) Honestly, my teammates. My first couple of games weren t very good and my teammates knew I could do it, they had my back and I couldn t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there...just trying to be as consistent as possible (On what he worked on in the off-season). That s everyone s baseball goal, to be as consistent as possible.... I actually know probably more guys here (in Wilmington) than I did at the beginning of the Lexington season so I m super excited. It s a great group of guys here...i loved that school (the University of New Mexico). Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(on transition from catcher to first base.)...i absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is definitely a lot easier on the body...(on being in the cleanup spot in his first Class A Advanced start) I m sure there will be some pregame jitters obviously. First game, new stadium, new guys on the team but it s just baseball. Hopefully we get a win and keep the good vibes going. #34 Roman Collins OF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 210 Age: 22 B/T: L/L Lives: Boca Raton, FL LG: 0-for-1, 2BB, SO Homestand:.304 (7-for-23), 2R, 2B, 3B, HR, 2RBI, 4BB, 7SO Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Florida Atlantic Univ. Father played football at West Virginia University Notes: Has his eight-game hitting streak snapped on 5/14 vs. FRE (G2) (.300/.382/.533) -Had 13-game on-base streak end on 4/20 vs. WS. -The streak was tied as the longest on-base streak on the team with D.J. Burt and was the fourthlongest in Carolina League at the time. -Tied for third on the team with two home runs. -Fifth on the team in runs scored (14). -Has posted a pair of eight-game hitting streaks this season. Posted two, nine-game H.S. in 2014 with Idaho Falls Notes: Spent the season between the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. They said it: I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot better and made improvements... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it would be. There s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn t much different. As far as baseball, there was actually a big difference. There s a lot of Japanese guys there so the style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There s a lot more splitters than change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot... I played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball has always been my passion and it ended up working out... Definitely the fans. We have a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here. #16 Nate Esposito C Ht: 5 11 Wt: 195 Age: 23 B/T: R/R Lives: Granite Bay, CA LG: 1-for-2 Homestand:.222 (2-for-9), R, BB, 2SO, HBP Notes: Selected in the 33rd round of the 2015 June MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Concordia University-Portland (Portland, OR). Originally attended Oregon State University in 2012 before transferring Notes: Had modest five-game hitting streak snapped on 5/9 vs. POT -Picked up his first multi-hit game of the season while throwing out a pair of base runners on SAL. -Collected first multi-rbi game of the season on BC -Leads team in caught stealing percentage (38%) Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.317 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 29 games. -Did not commit and error behind the dish. (250 innings) -Threw out 28% of would-be base stealers Notes: Spent the season with the Royals (Rookie/Arizona League) and hit.250 with five RBI in 27 games. Made just one error behind the plate. They said it: I would say definitely attitude was huge for me. Learning how to take each at-bat at a time and move forward from the negative things and take the positives of each at-bat and that s helped me relax at the plate... No. Absolutely not. I never had seven RBIs before. It was really cool. I guess the coolest thing about it was that I had no idea how many RBIs I had until the game was over and my teammates were telling me. I think that s the only reason why it happened. If I went in to each at-bat saying I already have four, let me get another one RBI, it wouldn t have happened for me and messed with my attitude. I don t think it would ve been as successful as a game... I think that s the reason why I m here. I really pride myself on defense. I try to come out every day to run a pitching staff, keep the ball in front of me and not let runners advance. I think that s what I pride myself on the most... I don t have a specific catcher. I can give you one guy. I was a big Jorge Posada fan of the New York Yankees. Just the way he was so agile behind the plate and lanky. He wasn t a big stocky dude because I m not like that either, but I liked the way he moved behind the plate for sure... Definitely an energizer bunny for these guys, I think I provide a lot of energy on the field, in the bullpen or the clubhouse. Someone that can provide energy day in and day out because we all know the season can get long.

I need to be on base and score runs and help the team any way I can... I m looking forward to playing every day, that s the goal and that s why I m here. I love playing baseball and I m looking to that more than anything else and doing what I can to help the club win...i was lucky enough to go to Australia and play in the Australian Baseball League. I kind of got my lower half going, but I m still honing it and trying to get more up the middle. It has allowed me to have a little more power than in the past...(on living in Australia) It was awesome. We got to play with big leaguers and that s special just in itself. We got to see how they conduct themselves. Living in a new country was a lifetime experience...(cultural shocks in Australia) They drive on the wrong side of the road and that took a little while to get used to. Navigating and little things here and there, like stores closing earlier was a little different, but I loved it...last year really helped (on being in WIL for second season and being comfortable in CF at Frawley Stadium). I feel like I have a good feel and know how to read the fly balls. I feel really comfortable here (in Wilmington). #7 Nicky Lopez INF Ht: 5 11 Wt: 175 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Boilingbrook, IL LG: 1-for-4 Homestand: 4-for-14, 2R, 2BB Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2016 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Creighton University. (.981) -Recorded 17 multi-hit games which was tied for team lead. -Had more walks (35) than strikeouts (30). -Hit better against LHP (.316) than against RHP (.270) They said it: On his success last season: I had a little more freedom. The stuff I learned in college ball really helped me mature as a player and really help me deal with adversity. Kind of preserve through the slumps you go through and know how to handle those and I think that was the biggest thing. When things weren t or were going right, just know how to act.... I think it s great. In baseball you have to play defense and offense, especially at the shortstop position. You need to be a good defender, get on base, anyway to help the team win. That s what I try to do day in and day out try to get on base and let the people behind me score me and pick up the ball and help my pitchers out. Anyway to help the team succeed.... Creighton helped me. Freshman year I had the strikeouts, it comes. As I matured my sophomore and junior year I got better a pitch recognition and worked the counts. I got comfortable battling with two strikes and don t be afraid that there are two strikes on you and get nervous. I think that s the biggest thing. Not being afraid with two strikes, work the count as the leadoff hitter and the walks will come....on being rated #13 prospect No I don t think it adds any pressure. I don t try to really read into that stuff. I kind of just play the game and try to help the team win and stay inside the locker room. I don t look too much into that and try to compete and help the team.... I was a big Derek Jeter fan. I used to watch the Yankees a lot and Derek Jeter play. Right now I like Brandon Crawford. I really like how he plays. He s a grinder and would do anything to help the team. It always looks like he has a dirty uniform so I kind of try to emulate that and play the game hard.... I ve never been this far east. It s a new part of America I haven t seen. I ve been and played to the west coast, been to the south but I haven t been this far east so I m just looking forward to meeting the people up here and what they have to offer.

The long season and bus rides. In college, our travel was much less, the bus rides weren t nearly as long and we didn t play nearly as many games. I feel like that was a huge aspect on top of the better talent that you faced day in and day out... Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes... Like everyone says growing up, it kind of clicks. Not saying I m a power hitter now but it was different to add that aspect to my game. Like I said, I m not going to go out there and try to hit home runs they just kind of happened last year. Hopefully it will continue this year...on going to Univ. of Michigan to play: Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes...it was unbelievable. The coaching staff there helped me a lot and I learned a lot about the game. Constantly building knowledge and getting to know different situations to prepare me professionally...for me it was getting healthy this offseason. I came off surgery last year so just getting a full offseason under my belt and getting my strength back I think that had a lot to do with the flaws I was having and let my swing take care of itself...there s no one specific player for me personally. I m a fan of a lot of guys in the MLB because they re can t miss TV. Watching Miguel Cabrera when I grew up as a Detroit fan and watching him on a daily basis during his Triple Crown season was unbelievable. #6 Tanner Stanley OF Ht: 5 10 Wt: 180 Age: 23 B/T: L/L Lives: Maitland, FL LG: 0-for-3 Homestand: 0-for-3 Notes: Drafted in the 36th round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of University of Richmond. They said it: Luckily, I came back from a labrum surgery early in my career at Western and had some things fall my way and got lucky with that. Got a chance to play in the Cape Cod League my sophomore year. After that, my junior year went well and had a good season and started to hear my name a lot more. I always had a chip on my shoulder going to a smaller school and being a small school guy and I talked to the guys who were drafted before me in Wade Gaynor and Kes Carter were the two guys that went higher and they always played with a chip on their shoulder. I think it helped me get to that position and be blessed with that opportunity...at first in 2015 I got called up there after ten games in with Burlington and it was a little stressful. I really didn t know how to handle that situation. I went back last year and embraced it a lot more and had a lot more fun and stayed loose. I had a lot of fun with it. Last year they had an Anderson Miller bobblehead day and the first pitch of the game, I hit a home run and it was one of the top five moments of my career. It was an amazing opportunity and I know a lot of guys don t get to do that so I took it all in...it goes a long way. We spend so much time together and the closer you are off the field, the better you re going to play together, play for each other, pick each other up and play as a unit. There s not separation in the locker room and from what I see we have a really close knit group and we ve had a lot of fun so far. Even the guys who just jumped on board we got to know a lot in Spring Training. Like Foster (Griffin) said, a lot of us played together and we know how to get along with each other. I m really looking forward to it. #13 Chase Vallot [rhymes with swallow] C Ht: 6 0 Wt: 215 Age: 20 B/T: R/R Lives: Youngsville, LA LG: 1-for-3, R, RBI Homestand:.267 (4-for-15), 4RBI, 3BB, 7SO Notes: Drafted in the 1st Round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City from St. Thomas More HS (LA). They said it: I don t remember any of the pain (on getting hit in the face by a fastball.) I don t remember the initial impact or five seconds after it happened. The only thing I remember is walking down the third base line into the clubhouse and everything after that. I went to the first hospital and had to go to a second hospital because the first one didn t have a dentist. The dentist had to pull my teeth back into place. My teeth were bent at a 45-degree angle so she had to pop those back in. The doctor had to stitch me up. I had 30 stitches from the top of my nose to underneath my lip....(on getting back in the box): It was a little tough because getting back in the box was a little uncomfortable at first. Luckily, I got hit in my first at-bat in the arm and I was worried about getting hit again but when I got hit, I said alright it s fine.... Last year I had the solid blue piece like the one Javier Baez wears. It kind of messed with my timing because I could see it every time I d go hit. I asked my agent if there was an alternate and he said yes there is. I said why not and got the helmet and every day I hit with it on the machine and no problem now.... From when I first played rookie ball in Burlington it s a night and day difference to the type of player I am. I have a better feel of how to play the game and how to treat yourself better. You have to play 140 games a year so you have to do whatever you have to do to get yourself ready.... I grew up a Houston Astros fan and I really loved Brad Ausmus. Now more so Yadier Molina and Salvador Perez. What they do is unbelievable and I m not quite at their level yet, but I hope to be soon.
