1 MEDIA INFORMATION Carolina Mudcats (52-50 / 16-18, 3rd, 6.5 GB / Northern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (56-48 / 17-17, T-3rd, 3.0 GB / Northern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Game No. 105/106 35/36 Road Game No. 57/58 Five County Stadium Saturday, July 29, :00 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: STREAK: L 1 LAST 5: 3-2 LAST 10: 4-6 ROAD WOES CONTINUE: Home runs by Travis Maezes and Brandon Downes, plus a quality start from Cristian Castillo, were not enough, as the Wilmington Blue Rocks dropped a 3-2 decision to the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday at Five County Stadium. The loss ends the Blue Crew s three-game game winning streak and was Wilmington s fifth consecutive defeat away from the friendly confines of Frawley Stadium. Friday, the Rocks and Mudcats were postponed due to rain, resulting in the fourth time in the last seven games the Rocks have been effected by rain. LOVING THE LONG BALL: The Blue Rocks used the long ball on Thursday, hitting two solo home runs to score both of their runs. The effort moved the Rocks even with Buies Creek and out of sole possession of last place in the Carolina League in team dingers with 69. Wilmington has hit 49 of its homers on the road in It was Travis Maezes fifth home run of the season and his first since June 15. Meanwhile, Brandon Downes launched his 10th long ball in only 38 games this year. HELLO THERE STRANGER: Wilmington is making its only trip of the season to Five County Stadium in Zebulon, North Carolina. It is one of four Carolina League stadiums where the Rocks are playing just one series this season (Winston- Salem s BB&T Ball Park, Myrtle Beach s TicketReturn.com Field and Buies Creek s Jim Perry Stadium are the others). Thursday s game was the Blue Crew s first meeting with Carolina since April 12 when the clubs wrapped up a three-game series at Frawley Stadium. Wilmington dropped two of three that week, with each of the games decided by just a single score. CATCHING A NEW GUY: Prospect catcher Chase Vallot was forced to depart Thursday s game in the second inning. Vallot worked a walk in his only plate appearance in the top of the second and got as far as third base, but after being stranded there, he did not come out defensively in the bottom of the inning. The youngest man on the Blue Rocks roster has put together a solid first year at the Advanced-A level. Vallot leads the team in homers (12), doubles (22) and walks (64). He is also the active team-leader in on-base percentage (.379) despite leading the league with 126 strikeouts. With Nate Esposito going to Triple-A after Wednesday s game, the Rocks welcomed catcher Nick Hutchins to their roster on Friday. Hutchins was a 27th round pick by the Royals this June out of Southern Illinois University. He made his professional debut this month and played nine games in the Appalachian League for the Burlington Royals. Half of his ten hits with the B-Royals were extra-base knocks and he added four RBI. TONS OF TIGHT GAMES: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina Leaguehigh 39 one-run games so far in No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more than 33 single-score affairs. The Rocks are now in such contests. Wilmington opened the season just 4-13 in one-run games, then won 17 of their next 19 before dropping the last three. FAST STARTERS: The Rocks have started most games off on the right foot in July. In the 25 games played during the month, the Blue Crew have delivered firstinning runs in 15 of those contests. Overall the first frame has been their most successful of the season, with the Rocks scoring 67 runs in their first at bat. That is more than any other inning. THEY SAID IT, MANAGER JAMIE QUIRK: I thought Cristian Castillo was very good. The homer got him and then the jam shot for the third run. I thought he pitched excellent. (Castillo) is that guy in the rotation that teams just don t score when he is pitching. The games are always tight like that. We just couldn t give him a breather. He pitched very well.. I don t know (on struggles on road with runners in scoring position.) I don t know if it s pressing, being over anxious or doing what you have to do at that particular time. We left a couple runners out there (Thursday) that we definitely could ve used...(brandon Downes) is on his game. He is much improved from last year. The home runs speak for itself, his OPS is off the charts since he s got here. He s doing exactly what we hoped he would do and we hope he continues to do it and good things will happen for him...(travis) Maezes can always do that (provide power in the bottom of the lineup.) He got one down in the zone and that s his spot. He was able to get one over the left field wall and it was nice to see. Tonight s Blue Rocks Starters WIL: RHP A.J. Puckett (8-7, 3.87 ERA) vs. WIL: RHP Scott Blewett (5-7, 3.91 ERA) A.J. Puckett has had more life experiences in his first 21 years on earth than many individuals will in their entire lifetime. The Walnut Creek, California native was selected in the second round of the MLB draft in He became a millionaire when he signed with the Royals for a reported $1.2 million bonus. Puckett also played football at national power De La Salle High School as a freshman and sophomore and--most notably-- he spent multiple days in a medically induced coma after suffering a head trauma as a teenager. Puckett bounced back from the medical hurdle to dominate his final two seasons of high school ball and earn a scholarship at Pepperdine University. He became the Waves ace in his junior year and strung together a 45.2 inning scoreless streak, finishing the season top 10 in the country in ERA and WHIP. Scouts like his MPH fastball, but they re even higher on the potential of his changeup, which Baseball America rates as a plus pitch with excellent deception. The six-foot-four, 200-pounder made his professional debut in the Arizona Rookie League last summer, making two starts before going to Low-A Lexington where he turned in a 3.66 ERA over 11 starts and 52 innings pitched. Puckett allowed three earned runs in 10 of his 13 first-half starts and also earned a decision in all but two of his outings. He was named a Carolina League All-Star and worked a scoreless frame of relief in the game. Four starts ago he retired 20 consecutive hitters at one point and held the Hillcats to just two runs on three hits over eight frames and last outing he yielded just one run in six frames at Frederick. Righty Scott Blewett makes the start in the second game of the doubleheader for the Blue Rocks. The hurler was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, which was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two rounds since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). The sixfoot-six 210-pounder is the sixth-ranked prospect in the Kansas City Royals system according to Baseball America. Scouts love his fastball, which consistently sits in the mid-90s. His curveball has improved dramatically since joining the Royals system, while scouts have noticed consistent progress with his changeup as well. Blewett spent the last two seasons in Low-A Lexington, shaving almost a full run off his ERA in 2016 (from 5.20 to 4.31). He also missed a lot of bats last season, fanning 121 in 129 innings pitched. Growing up just outside of Syracuse, Blewett committed to play college ball at St. John s, before the Royals doled out a reported $1.8 million signing bonus ($800,000 above slot). Blewett has allowed two runs or less in 11 of his 20 outings this season. Five starts ago on July 2, he became the first Blue Rock since August of 2003 to toss a nineinning complete game shutout, holding Salem to just four hits. In his last outing, he did not factor in the decision against Salem when he allowed just an earned run on four hits, walked one and struck out five in six innings of work on July Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. CAR (CAR leads series 3-1) Date Site Result WP LP Save 4-10 WIL L, 2-1 Diplan (1-0) Puckett (0-1) Griep (1) 4-11 WIL W, 3-2 Machado (1-1) Harber (0-1) Marte (1) 4-12 WIL L 3-2 Torres-Costa (1-0) Terrero (0-1) Griep (2) 7-27 CAR L, 3-2 Lopez, F (3-4) Castillo, C (6-7) Griep (19) 7-28 CAR PPD Make up scheduled for 7/ CAR 7-29(G2) CAR 7-30 CAR Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Sunday, July Carolina, 2:00 p.m. RHP Jace Vines (0-0, 7.71 ERA) vs. LHP Kodi Medeiros (3-8, 4.78 ERA) WGLS-FM 89.7 Monday, July 31 vs. Buies Creek, 6:35 p.m. TBD vs. TBD WGLS-FM 89.7 Tuesday, August 1 vs. Buies Creek, 6:35 p.m. LHP Cristian Castillo (6-7, 3.41 ERA) vs. TBD WGLS-FM 89.7 RADIO: Rowan Radio, 89.7 WGLS-FM WEBCAST: wgls.rowan.edu or bluerocks.com Wilmington Blue Rocks Game Notes

The Brewers and the Atlanta Braves, who were the parent club of the Carolina Mudcats in , swapped affiliates. The Braves now have their Class-A Advanced affiliate in the Florida State League and are one of the new teams in Minor League Baseball, the Florida Fire Frogs. Prior to the Braves short tenure, the Mudcats served as the Cleveland Indians satellite from The organization has been part of the Carolina League since Skipper Joe Ayrault has stayed with the Brewers system during the affiliation switch and will be at the helm of Milwaukee s Advanced-A squad for his sixth overall season and first with the Mudcats. Starting the Milwaukee era, the Mudcats have a prospect laden roster with eight players ranked on MLB.com s Pipeline updated top 30 Brewers prospect list. Most notably, outfielder Corey Ray (#2/#69 in Top 100) who was the Brewers top pick in 2016, shortstop Isan Diaz (#6), outfielder Trent Clark (#6), and third baseman Lucas Erceg (#10) are all ranked in the top ten. Ray showed his his combination of hitting and athletic ability, and he backed up that title by hitting 15 homers with 44 steals as a junior with Louisville. The Brewers made him the fifth-overall pick in June, gave him $4,125, the largest bonus in club history -- and then sent him to the Florida State League with the now defunct Brevard County Manatees to speed up his track to the bigs. Diaz earned the Brewer s Minor League Player of the Year Award after posting a.264 batting average with 20 home runs and 75 RBI in 135 games with Low-A Wisconsin a year ago. He was promoted to Brevard County and went 1-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 10 games including six starts. The Mudcats will go from a very familiar foe to unfamiliar this year for Wilmington. This season, the two teams will play just two series against each other. Carolina took the first series between the two teams in Wilmington in the second week of April with all three games decided by a single run. Last season, the two teams played five games against each other through the first month of the season and met 19 total times. The Blue Rocks took the season head-to-head match-up 11-8.

HOSPITALIZED AND IN A COMA DURING HIGH SCHOOL: In the summer between his sophomore and junior years in high school, Puckett was having fun at a showcase in San Diego when suddenly things became as serious as it gets. He required emergency brain surgery for an accident that occurred as a passenger in a car. A couple a friends were fisting and fighting, according to Puckett, and a blow caught him in the head. It was the wrong spot at the wrong time. Next thing you know I had to go to the hospital and a couple days later I woke up in that hospital. Initially Puckett did not feel any pain from the blow he took inside the car and the next thing he did was play football on the beach. Luckily, for Puckett, his parents, Jeff and Brenda, were there and when A.J. started feeling dizzy they took him to the hospital and later he was told he had been placed in a medically induced coma for three days. He remained hospitalized for two weeks. As he puts it now, it was one of those hiccups in life that you have to overcome. MOM WAS A ROCK OF SUPPORT: When a person finds out they aren t invincible it can be jarring to anyone, but it is particularly tough for a teenager to process. Puckett said what helped him most through the entire ideal was his friends and family, who were there the entire way, particularly his mother. My mom was my guardian angel through this process. Fathers are always kind of tough on their sons and (the scars of the traumatic experience) went away with ease for my dad. But the accident and the recovery afterward still took my mom a while to get used to. Moms are like mama bears with their babies, especially with me because I m the baby of the family. She s a very strong-hearted lady and doesn t take no for an answer. I love my mom for it and everything about her. I can t thank her enough. After the surgery happened Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP I really just wanted to get back on the field as soon as I could. The first thing I asked was what helmet I could get to help protect my head more. I never looked at it like it would hinder or bother my play or performance in any sport I 2016/Royals (AZL) play. But Puckett did have to call it quits on the gridiron, which he says was difficult, particularly since he was part 2016/Lexington of a nationally renowned program like De La Salle. It was pretty tough decision (to give up football). (At) the high school where I went, football is a big time thing there. Growing up I always dreamed of playing football and it was a 2017/Wilmington rough to give it up, but I was thankful for the support staff I had around me. Totals ROLE MODELS: As a professional pitcher Puckett understands he has to be himself. But in his early years as a pitcher there were two particular guys he tried to emulate as a kid. I grew up watching a lot of A s game so I was a big Tim Hudson fan. Also, Justin Verlander when I was growing up was my guy. They were just two great pitchers I looked at. But Puckett said as he learned about the mechanics of pitching he quickly realized he didn t look like those guys and it was okay. I try to go out there and make my own game, Puckett says. So I can t model my game after them, but I sure loved the way they pitched growing up Appearances (Wilmington) Date OPP G GS DEC ERA IP H R ER BB SO HR HBP WP Score Upon Exit Result Notes 4/10/17 CAR 1 1 L CAR, 1-0 CAR, 2-1 First-career start at High-A 2 2 W WIL, 5-3 WIL, 6-3 First-career win at High-A 4/20/17 WS 3 3 W WIL, 1-0 WIL, 1-0 Set career-highs in IP/Ks 4 4 L MB, 7-3 MB, 7-3 Tied for 2nd-shortest start of career 5/1/17 SAL WIL, 2-1 SAL, 4-3 (F/10) 6 6 W WIL, 4-2 WIL, 5-4 5/11/17 POT 7 7 L POT, 7-2 POT, W WIL, 4-1 WIL, W WIL, 9-0 WIL, 10-1 Had no-hitter through 6IP 5/28/17 POT POT, 3-0 WIL, L WS, 2-1 WS, 5-2 Tied career-high with 8Ks 6/9/17 BC L BC, 5-0 BC, 7-4 Allowed season-high in hits W WIL, 9-0 WIL, 9-0 Set career-high in Ks L SAL, 4-0 SAL, 9-2 Shortest start of career 6/30/17 SAL L SAL, 3-0 SAL, W WIL, 5-1 WIL, 6-2 Tossed career-high IP W WIL, 4-3 WIL, 7-3 7/16/17 POT Tied, 1-1 WIL, 2-1 (F/11) WIL, 2-1 FRE, 4-3 2nd straight start allowing just ER

4 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #45 RHP Scott Blewett Acquired: Drafted in 2nd round in MLB Draft in 2014 out of Baker H.S. (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) Born: Syracuse, N.Y. Age: 21 (April 10, 1996) Resides: Baldwinsville, N.Y. Ht: 6 6 Wt: 210 College: N/A Bats/Throws: R/R Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Changeup, Curveball SCOTT BLEWETT: Scott Blewett was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, which was noteworthy because the tall right-hander became the first New York high school pitcher drafted in the first two rounds since the turn of the century (it last happened in 1999). Growing up just outside of Syracuse, Blewett committed to play college ball at St. John s, before the Royals doled out a reported $1.8 million signing bonus ($800,000 above slot). Blewett has allowed two runs or less in 11 of his 20 outings this season. Five starts ago on July 2, he became the first Blue Rock since August of 2003 to toss a nine-inning complete game shutout, holding Salem to just four hits. In his last outing, he did not factor in the decision against Salem when he allowed just an earned run on four hits, walked one and struck out five in six innings of work on July 24. JACK OF ALL TRADES: Growing up in northern New York the conditions were not exactly ideal for a young, budding baseball star, but Blewett refused to let that get in his way. When it was too cold to play baseball as a kid, the Syracuse native embraced other sports to sharpen his competitive spirit. In an age of hyper-specialization in youth sports, Blewett now sees the positives from diversification. A big thing a lot of people said is I would be fresh once I get to pro ball because I won t have nearly as many innings under my belt Blewett says. I was a three-sport athlete and I got a chance to get different perspectives from different games. I was able to compete in other atmospheres. I know a lot of guys in California and the south where it s baseball all year round. I ran cross country and ran 5K s. It doesn t sound that fun but it was exhilarating because you re competing with that guy in front of you. When I was younger I played hockey and then in high school (I played) basketball (because) of my height, so you had that element of competition. Ultimately in the spring it was baseball. Once I got to my junior and senior year it was strictly baseball. But the earlier experience gives you that competitive edge. So now for me in pro ball when I m competing for a position or on a roster I had the edge, because I understand how to compete. The Book on Blewett (2017) At Home: 3-3, 3.00 ERA 10G/10GS On the Road: 2-4, 4.96 ERA 10G/10GS LH Opp Avg:.278 RH Opp Avg:.231 Record when he pitches: 5-7 Wilmington Record when he starts: 9-11 Run Support (overall): 65 Run Support (starting): 2.8 ERA: 3.91 Season-High K s: 12, Salem Red Sox) Career-High K s: 12, Salem Red Sox) Last Win: 7/2/17 vs. Salem Red Sox Last Loss: 7/18/17 vs. Potomac Nationals SCAPULA ISSUES IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR: Blewett had a health scare near the end of his high school career which he says came from a lack of understanding of the importance of arm maintenance. In high school I never did any shoulder work. When I got to pro ball that was something that was really emphasized Most IP, 2017: 9.0 IP, (7/2/17 vs. Salem Red Sox) and I found out I had made a big mistake. But in high school Blewett was at a showcase in the south and that Most IP, Career: 9.0 IP, (7/2/17 vs. Salem Red Sox) mistake caught up to him. I was down in Florida and throwing in warm weather and I think I threw the hardest I ever threw. I had a lot of scouts watching, a lot of adrenaline, and I was overthrowing and doing a lot of things that I probably shouldn t be doing that was detrimental to my body and ultimately mu health. When I went Career Numbers back to New York in colder weather I pitched in a game and felt some shoulder fatigue. I pulled myself out of Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP the game, which I d never done before. He went to the doctor and after lots of tests the diagnosis was--in his words-- a really week scapula. It took me a few months to rehab to get back to maximum strength. Once we 2014/Burlington got to that point I knew I had to change some things both approach wise and work wise. From high school to now I ve worked on maintaining the strength in my scapula. 2015/Lexington /Lexington SCOTT S CHOICE: A lot of guys forego college to play pro baseball, but not everyone has the kind of perspective as a teenager that Blewett brought to the decision. As a young kid I always said I wanted to play professional baseball and that 2017/Wilmington was my dream. I jumped into it and chased it hard. I ve always been someone that can t go into one thing and concentrate on another thing. With school, education was always focused on when I was in high school. It was always about making sure you Totals get your work done then focus on baseball. It s a lot easier to handle things in that atmosphere, but once I got to college I knew the work was going to get much harder and the competition was going to get harder. So I said hey if I can get into pro ball I d have one focus. If I went to college I would have two goals, graduate and hopefully get drafted again. So the tall righty decided to turn all of his attention toward making a living at the sport he loves. A LITTLE ADJUSTMENT: Sometimes the smallest of keys can help a pitcher find his rhythm. For Blewett it was an accidental discovery in the bullpen at Potomac in May that had a big impact. I had the sun in my eyes so I pulled my hat down, Blewett recounted. And wouldn t you know even something small like that let me keep my chin down and my head aligned. Carried streak over through first four games with Lexington to set career-high 15 game hitting streak. (8/27/15-4/10/16) -Reached safely in 59 of his 62 starts with Idaho Falls, including his last 54 starts. -On-base streak of 62 games started on July 12 and went through first eight games with Lexington in 2016 and ended on April 16, Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.215 with two home runs and nine RBI in 49 games in his first season in professional baseball. They said it: Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out...it took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started last season in Lexington I didn t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped... I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs...working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out... I know Brandon Phillips doesn t really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well. #15 Chris DeVito INF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 220 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Northridge, CA LG: 0-for-4, 2SO Road Trip: 0-for-4, 2SO Notes: Selected in the 8th round of the 2016 June MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of New Mexico. (4-for-5, HR) 2016 Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.261 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 60 games. Led the team in both HR and was ranked second in the league in RBI. They said it: (On what led to great success in Lexington to start the season) Honestly, my teammates. My first couple of games weren t very good and my teammates knew I could do it, they had my back and I couldn t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there...just trying to be as consistent as possible (On what he worked on in the off-season). That s everyone s baseball goal, to be as consistent as possible...i actually know probably more guys here (in Wilmington) than I did at the beginning of the Lexington season so I m super excited. It s a great group of guys here...i loved that school (the University of New Mexico). Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(on transition from catcher to first base.)...i absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is definitely a lot easier on the body... Absolutely not, I ve never done that before (on hitting for the cycle). I was just super happy to get the win and happy to contribute. (If cycle was in his mind after the triple) A little bit, but not much. I know (triples) are incredibly hard to get and I m not a big triples guy. I was just happy to get it done early and didn t have to worry about it. I m mostly happy we got the win. #34 Roman Collins OF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 210 Age: 23 B/T: L/L Lives: Boca Raton, FL LG: 0-for-4 Road Trip: 0-for-4 Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Florida Atlantic Univ. Father played football at West Virginia University Notes: Hit walk-off RBI double in 15th inning vs. BC on 6/8. -Picked up fourth three-hit game of the season on 7/12 vs. LYN -Had 13-game on-base streak end on 4/20 vs. WS. -The streak was tied as the longest on-base streak on the team with D.J. Burt and was the fourthlongest in Carolina League at the time. -Tied for first amongst active members on team with five triples, second on team in RBI (40), second with 21 doubles, third on team in runs with 38 amongst active players and fourth on the team with six home runs. -Has posted a pair of eight-game hitting streaks this season. Posted two, nine-gamers in 2014 with Idaho Falls Notes: Spent the season between the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. A/Carolina League). -Hit.242 with nine home runs and 41 RBI in 111 total games between the two teams. -Started the season with the Blue Rocks hitting.222/0/5 in 21 contests. -Played 90 games with the Legends and hit.246/9/36. -Collected three, four-hit games last year. -Hit.249 vs RHP and.213 vs LHP -Hit.275 on the road (208 ABs) and.207 at home (218 ABs) -Spent the winter in the Australian Winter League with the Melbourne Aces and ranked among league s leaders in total bases (tied for second), batting average (third), hits (third) and runs (tied for fourth) Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.292 with four home runs and 45 RBI in 68 games. -Ranked tied for fourth among Pioneer League batters in walks (36) during his pro debut. -Finished third on the Chukars in hits (78), second in doubles (18) and fourth in triples (6). -Was the second toughest batter to strike out in the league (every 9.03 at-bats). They said it: I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot better and made improvements... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it would be. There s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn t much different. As far as baseball, there was actually a big difference. There s a lot of Japanese guys there so the style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There s a lot more splitters than change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot... I played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball has always been my passion and it ended up working out... Definitely the fans. We have a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here. #26 Brandon Downes OF Ht: 6 3 Wt: 195 Age: 24 B/T: R/R Lives: South Plainfield, NJ LG: 2-for-4, R, HR, RBI Road Trip: 2-for-4, R, HR, RBI Notes: Selected in the 7th round of the 2014 June MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of University of Virginia. A/Carolina League) and Omaha StormChasers (AAA/Pacific Coast League). -Hit.230 with 12 home runs and 66 RBI in 130 games with Wilmington. -Ranked second among Royals farmhands with 36 doubles, 34 of which came at Wilmington, where he ranked fifth in the Carolina League in two-base hits. -Played in five games with Omaha and hit.308 with a pair of doubles in 13 at-bats. -Had 26 multi-hit games last season. 2015: Spent the season with the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) Wilmington Blue Rocks. -Hit.251 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 106 games with Lexington. -Ranked second on team in doubles, home runs and RBI for Lexington. -Played in just one game in Wilmington and in his lone at-bat struck out. -Fell a home run shy of the cycle on 5/15. (5-for-5 3 2B, 3B, RBI) 2014: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.308 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 41 games. Finished fifth on the team with 13 doubles. They said it: I definitely think it will be a good adjustment for me. I went through the whole first year struggling a little bit. I know the stadiums, the teams, maybe some of the same players are coming back. I think it gives me a little bit of an edge on other guys in the league. I m excited...honestly I went in there carefree. If I get out, it s supposed to happen because I m the guy from A-Ball so I took it the right way. I just went out there and felt comfortable and enjoyed myself. I honestly had no pressure on myself and that s the way I should play here too which is what I m going to try to do. It was enjoyable... The postgame spread was unbelievable. You get big leaguers buying the spread and it is steak and lobster for dinner which was very awesome. The field was incredible. There was a ton more fans I m not saying we have a bad fan base, but it s a step away from the big leagues and kids are going crazy for you. It was cool to be around older guys who have been there or guys that are close to being there. The league itself was very cool. I met one of my teammates from Virginia, Chris Taylor, he got traded to the Dodgers and we were playing them during the six games I was there and it was good to see him. It s a whole different atmosphere. There s 35-year-old guys pitching to you and you do one thing wrong and they know what that weakness it, they can repeatedly make that pitch so it definitely was a big jump but definitely awesome...it s definitely a big thing (playing near hometown). There s a lot of ups and downs, especially if you get homesick, which I haven t gotten that much in my career so far. It s definitely a blessing to have your family come out.
