Liberty opened an eight-game homestand with a 7-3 setback to No. 11 Virginia, Tuesday. The homestand is the Flames' longest of the season. 2. This weekend, No. 23 Coastal Carolina will be the second nationally ranked team, the Flames will face this season. Earlier this week, No. 11 Virginia was the first national ranked team Liberty faced in. Coastal Carolina tops the Big South standings with a 13-2 conference record. 3. The homestand is the Flames' longest of the season. The Flames enter the homestand with a 14-8 record at Liberty Baseball Stadium. Liberty has dropped its last three home games. Until Tuesday, Liberty had not faced a nationally-ranked team yet this season. Virginia was the first on Tuesday, with Big South leader Coastal Carolina, the second, this weekend. Yacyk's third hit of the night, a double, gave the Liberty Flames a 5-4 walk-off win over the Maryland Terrapins, April 5. In two games against Maryland this season, the Hagerstown, Md. native went 8-for-11 with six RBI. Yacyk leads the Flames in doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases. He tied for third in the Big South with 15 doubles, tied for 10th with six home runs, ninth with 37 RBI and eighth with 92 total bases. 3B Andrew Kowalo had two hits, including a three-run home run, his fourth of the season, in Liberty s 10-7 win at William & Mary, April 27. He tied a career-high with three RBI. Kowalo, OF Jack Morris, and C Payton Scarbrough each hit a home run in Liberty's 4-2 win over Presbyterian, April 22. Morris had a two-out, two-run triple, Tuesday night against Virginia. C Josh Latta collected a career-high three hits, a double and two RBI at William & Mary, April 27. He also scored twice. RHP Zander Clouse entered Liberty's game at William & Mary with the bases loaded, one-out and five runs in during the first inning and went on to shut down the Tribe until the eighth inning, to record his third win of the year. Clouse scattered seven hits and yielded one run during the longest relief outing of his career, 7.0 innings. He pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, before yielding a run in the eighth. CF D.J. Artis collected two hits, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored twice, April 26 against Virginia Tech. 2B/OF Will Shepherd, LF Andrew Yacyk and SS Dalton Britt also had two hits apiece for the Flames. 1B Sammy Taormina also hit his second home run of the season in the contest. Artis leads the Big South with a.511 on base percentage and is tied for the conference lead with 21 stolen bases. The OF is second with 41 walks, third with a.375 batting average and is tied for fifth with 40 runs scored. Over his last 10 games, SS Dalton Britt is hitting.463. RHP Shane Quarterley made his 22nd appearance, Tuesday night against Virginia. He leads the Flames in appearances and is currently, tied for third in the Big South in the category. Quarterley is also second in saves (6). RHP Evan Mitchell gave up two runs, one unearned on five hits, posting his third complete game, in his last start, a 4-2 win over Presbyterian, on April 22. Currently, he is fourth in the Big South and leads the Flames with a 2.05 ERA. He is also 10th in the conference with a.225 opposing batting average.

The team honors excellence in the classroom and on the baseball diamond. Yacyk was named to the team as an infielder The junior, enters the weekend, hitting.306 with 37 RBI and 24 runs scored in 45 games, this season. He has collected 16 doubles, a triple, and six home runs, while posting a.455 slugging percentage and a.381 on base percentage. The Hagerstown, Md., native leads the Flames leads the Flames in doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases (92) and is also among the Big South leaders in several categories. Yacyk is tied for third in the conference with 15 doubles, tied for 10th with six home runs, ninth with 37 RBI and eighth with 92 total bases. Currently, he is one of three team captains for the Flames. Off the field, Yacyk holds a 3.69 GPA in biomedical studies. Dalton Britt - Liberty's Iron Man Flames shortstop Dalton Britt is on pace to break Trey Wimmer's record of 235 games played from He enters Friday night's contest having started 225 consecutive games. Britt started his 200th straight contest, March 19. The Greenville, N.C. native made the milestone start in the first game of the doubleheader against Kent State. The senior has started every game since joining the Flames in 2013, playing mostly at shortstop. In 2014, he played several games at third base early in the season, before moving back to shortstop. Toman enters his ninth year at Liberty, having posted the highest NCAA Division I winning percentage (.625) and compiled the best Big South Conference winning percentage (.668) during his first eight years in Lynchburg of any head baseball coach in program history. On Feb. 26 of this year, Toman collected his 300th career victory, a 9-8 win over Marshall, to become the second coach in Liberty history to reach 300 wins. In 2014, he became the first coach in school history to lead the Flames to backto-back NCAA berths. After claiming an automatic bid by winning the 2013 Big South Championship, Toman s 2014 team received the program s first at-large selection to an NCAA Regional. During his tenure, Liberty has posted the school s three top single-season win totals in program history. The 2010 Flames set the school record with 43 wins, while Liberty posted 41-win seasons in 2012 and In addition, three of the four teams with 40-plus victory seasons all-time have been under Toman s leadership. The Flames have won 35 or more games in six of his eight seasons at Liberty and have averaged 37 wins per season, the most of any head coach in program history. The Flames have notched a overall record during his eight seasons at Liberty and have posted a Big South mark over the span. During his coaching career, Toman has been a part of 16 NCAA Regional teams, seven NCAA Super Regional teams and three College World Series teams. This past season, Toman s squad posted a overall mark and ranked as high as 24th nationally by Baseball America (Feb. 24). For the second consecutive year, a Liberty pitcher was named the Big South Pitcher of the Year as Jared Lyons was selected the conference s top pitcher. Meanwhile, Alex Close became the first Liberty player to be named twice to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America first team. Toman s 2014 Liberty squad garnered the program s first ever at-large selection to a NCAA Regional. In addition, the Flames, who finished the year at 41-18, were ranked among one of the four major baseball polls during the regular season for the first time in program history, reaching as high as No. 21 in the Baseball America weekly poll on March 21. Liberty captured the Big South regular season title with 23 Big South victories, also the most in school history and at year s end, became the first team in league history to sweep the major conference awards. Toman was an unanimous selection as the conference s Coach of the Year, while Ryan Seiz was named the Player of the Year. Trey Lambert was selected the Pitcher of the Year and also the Scholar- Athlete of the Year, while Parker Bean was voted Freshman of the Year. Nationally, Seiz became the first player in Liberty history to be named to three postseason All-American teams. Meanwhile, Bean was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. In addition, Close and Lambert became the first two players to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. Liberty led the Big South with a 2.62 ERA, the lowest in program history, and finished 2014 ranked 14th nationally in the category. The Flames also topped the conference with nine shutouts. The relief corps recorded 16 saves, tying for the second most in program history with Toman s 2010 team. Toman lead his team to the first NCAA Regional final appearance in program history in The Flames captured the Big South Championship and then defeated Clemson twice to make their first appearance in a regional final in the program history. In 2012, the Flames posted their second 40-plus win season in a three-year span under Toman and set school records for team ERA, shutouts and fielding percentage. Liberty pitchers recorded a 3.04 ERA, ranking 15th nationally, and set a Big South and school record with 11 shutouts. In addition, Toman saw first baseman Close named to two Freshman All-America teams. The year before, Toman saw seven players from his Flames squad selected during the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft, the most players chosen in a single draft in the history of the program. Liberty posted a school record for wins in a single season with a record in 2010 and in 2009, the Liberty pitching staff set a new season strikeout record, fanning 508 opposing batters. The Flames strikeout total led the Big South Conference. Their 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings ranked 22nd nationally at season s end. In addition, third baseman Tyler Bream was named a 2009 Freshman All-American by the Collegiate Baseball News. After 11 seasons as the senior member of Ray Tanner s coaching staff at South Carolina, Toman was named the sixth head coach in the history of the Liberty Baseball program in June Toman worked a total of 18 years alongside Tanner, dating back to the 1990 season at N.C. State. During his time at South Carolina, Toman served as recruiting coordinator and coached the team s catchers. Known as one of the top recruiters in college baseball, the 27-year college coaching veteran was named the 2002 Baseball America/ American Baseball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. Toman and the Gamecocks made nine NCAA Regional trips, including eight straight appearances between 2000 and 2007, and three consecutive visits to the College World Series ( ). N.C. State made seven NCAA appearances during his time there. During his 11 seasons at South Carolina, he helped the Gamecocks to a combined record (.694). A catcher, Toman was a four-year letterwinner at N.C. State from , and served as team captain of the Wolfpack his junior and senior seasons. Toman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in vocational industrial education from N.C. State in 1985 and graduated as the top student in the vocational industrial education curriculum.
