1 MEDIA INFORMATION Buies Creek Astros ( rd, 2.0 GB / Southern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Houston Astros vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (31-27, 3rd, 4.5 GB / Northern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Game No. 59 Home Game No. 27 Frawley Stadium Thursday, June 8, :35 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: STREAK: W 3 LAST 5: 4-1 LAST 10: 7-3 ROCKS ARE ROLLING: The Wilmington Blue Rocks completed their most thrilling come-from-behind win of the season in a 3-2 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks Tuesday night at Grainger Stadium. In the ninth inning, Cody Jones, Chase Vallot and Travis Maezes all homered in the final stanza to complete the stunning rally. It was the first time this season the Rocks hit three home runs in a single inning. With the win, the Rocks improved to a season-best four games over.500 and keep pace in the Northern Division First Half race. The team enjoyed an off day Wednesday. KEEPING PACE: With the series sweep over the Down East Wood Ducks, the Blue Rocks continue to make a push for the First Half Northern Division title with Lynchburg and Salem both in the mix. Entering Thursday s game, the Rocks are 4.5 game back of Salem for first place with 12 games remaining in the first half. The Rocks finish out their first half slate with eight games at home including the fourgame series against Buies Creek and a four-game set with Salem on June They travel to Lynchburg to play four games in three days in between the pair of home tilts from June CHRIS IS CRUSHING: Chris DeVito had a remarkable road trip and was named the Carolina League Player of the Week on Tuesday. He is the third Blue Rock to earn a weekly honor from the ten-team loop. He hit.400 (12-for-26) with four doubles, a triple, home run and drove in four runs to help earn the honor. The first baseman etched his name in the Blue Rocks record book on Friday in Winston-Salem when he hit for the cycle in Wilmington s 12-6 win over the Dash. It s the first cycle for a Blue Rocks hitter since Dee Brown did it at Myrtle Beach on April 18, It is also only the third cycle in BB&T Ballpark history. The first was by Matt Lipka of Lynchburg in 2013 and the other was recorded by Mason Robbins of the Dash in DeVito started his night with a single in the first inning. In the second frame he roped a triple to the right-field corner. Then in the fourth inning he yanked a double to right field before launching a solo home run in the sixth inning to complete the feat. It was his 14th home run of the year between Wilmington and Low-A Lexington. LOVING THE LONG BALL: Over the Blue Rocks first 26 games of the season the Blue Crew had hit just 11 home runs, the second-fewest in the Carolina League. But over the last 32 games, Wilmington has blasted 29 more long balls. Anderson Miller and Chase Vallot each have clubbed five of the homers over this stretch. Miller has seven on the season after hitting just three during the entire second half with Wilmington last year. Chris DeVito, Brandon Downes and Cody Jones each have three homers while Roman Collins, and Nicky Lopez have also clobbered two during the stretch. Travis Maezes joined the power surge with one on Tuesday. BRANDON IS BACK: Brandon Downes returned to the Blue Rocks active roster on Wednesday after missing the last six weeks due to a broken hammate bone, which he suffered against the Carolina Mudcats on April 11. Downes had started the season 5-for-18 with a homer, two triples, an RBI and two runs scored in five games with Wilmington. He is off to a.269 start (7-for-26) with three homers, six RBI, five walks and seven runs scored through his first seven games back from the disabled list. Last season Downes, led the Blue Rocks with 12 homers, but also batted just.230 and struck out 170 times in 130 games. The University of Virginia product played in one game with Wilmington in 2015, and got a cup of coffee at the end of last season with Triple-A Omaha. LOPEZ LEADING THE WAY: Nicky Lopez continues to be a catalyst atop the lineup. He has hits in all but eight games this season and has been on base in all but four contests and in 33 of his last 35 affairs. The second-year pro has 14 multihit games in his last 33 contests. TONS OF TIGHT GAMES: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina League-high 26 one-run games so far in No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more than 23 single-score affairs. Unfortunately for Wilmington, the Rocks are just in such contests, but have won eight of the last nine one-run affairs. Wilmington has also played in six extra innings affairs already in 2017-the second-most in the Carolina League. The Rocks are just 2-4 in those games not completed in regulation. THEY SAID IT JAMIE QUIRK: I would say that s the win of the year. (On Tuesday s dramatic win) Under the circumstances, we hadn t done anything offensively all game long. Then, we had that happened when (Cody) Jones goes in for (Brandon) Downes and Jones hasn t played all series and hits a home run to give us life. Chase (Vallot) hit a bomb and (Travis) Maezes hit his. That was the game of the year so far because of the circumstances of where we are and what we re doing. It was a lot of fun to see. Tonight s Starters BC: RHP Jorge Alcala (1-2, 4.11 ERA) vs. WIL: LHP Colin Rodgers (2-2, 3.92 ERA) The Kansas City Royals certainly wanted Colin Rodgers. The organization proved that when they gave the 2012 third-round pick a $700,000 signing bonus--almost a quarter-million above slot. They remain bullish on the left-hander s future despite a serious elbow injury in 2013 that resulted in Tommy John Surgery. Rodgers returned to the mound in 2014, and struggled statistically each of the next three seasons. In 2014 he made one start for Idaho Falls (Pioneer League) and then finished the campaign with the Burlington Royals (Appalachian League) going 0-4 with a 7.36 ERA in six outings. Two years ago he split the campaign between the bullpen and the starting rotation with the Lexington Legends, posting a 3-11 mark, one save and a 5.02 ERA in 24 appearances (eight starts). Then in 2016 injuries derailed his first season with the Blue Rocks, where he went 2-7 with a 6.02 ERA in 16 games and 11 starts. Rogers posted an ERA of 4.33 in the season s first half but then allowed 19 runs (17 earned) in only 8.1 frames over three starts in July before being shut down for the season. He opened this year pitching exclusively out of the bullpen where he fanned 14 and yielded just three runs over 13.1 frames. Rodgers returned to the rotation earlier in May in place of Emilio Ogando, who was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. This is his seventh start, with his best coming on May 21 when he tossed seven frames of one-run ball--his longest outing since Since then, he has allowed eight earned runs in 11 innings of work in his last two starts but did earn a win in his last outing on 6/2 at Winston-Salem. Jorge Alcala gets the start for Buies Creek tonight. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound righty was signed as a free agent in 2015 by the Astros. Rated as the 28th-best prospect in the system according to MLB.com, the Dominican Republic product started the year in Low-A Quad Cities. With the River Bandits, the hard-throwing righty went 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in six games including four starts. He struck out 35 men in 31 innings of work and held opponents to a.155 batting average. Tonight, he makes his fourth start with Buies Creek and first against the Blue Rocks. Alcala continues to be tough to hit against, holding Carolina League opponents to a.192 contact-clip in 15.1 innings of work. He has posted a 1-2 record with a 4.11 ERA through his previous three starts. The righty has had control issues working from the stretch. However, he worked on it during instructional league play and his fastball touched 99 mph. Overall, his arsenal features a fastball that can hit the upper 90s, a slider in the 80 s with solid control and is developing a change up Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. BC Date Site Result WP LP Save 4-28 BC L, 2-1 Quiala (3-0) Griffin (2-2) 4-29 BC L, 3-0 Hernandez, E (2-2) Blewett (0-2) Hernandez (3) 4-30 BC W, 5-2 Ruxer (2-1) Blanco (0-1) 6-8 WIL 6-9 WIL 6-10 WIL 6-11 WIL 7-31 WIL 8-1 WIL 8-2 WIL Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Friday, June 9, vs. Buies Creek, 7:05 p.m. RHP A.J. The Astros are currently playing at Jim Perry Stadium, which serves as the home of the Campbell University Fighting Camels, who play in the Big South Conference. The two teams will share the facility through the 2018 season. On the field, Buies Creek has yielded the best record in the Carolina League as the opening month of the season comes to a close this weekend. With a 14-7 record, they have the most wins of any team in the Carolina League. As a collective unit the Astros are in the top-five in multiple offensive categories including team batting average (.261, 5th), runs (99, 3rd), RBI (92, 3rd) and stolen bases (26, 3rd). Buies Creek is led by Omar Lopez enters his 10th season as a manager in the Houston organization after starting in 2008 in the Gulf Coast League. After spending three seasons there, he was promoted to the Greenville Astros for the season in the Appalachian League. Following, he headed to Quad Cities, Iowa where he was the skipper for the River Bandits in and led the team to a Midwest League Championship in After a season in the California League with the former Lancaster JetHawks in 2014, he returned to the River Bandits last season before being named the manager of Buies Creek this winter. The Astros have four of top-30 prospects according to Baseball America on the 2017 with RHP Franklin Perez (No.4), RHP Hector Perez (No.16), catcher Jake Rogers (No. 20) RHP Jose Luis Hernandez (No.29) who is currently on the disabled list. Franklin Perez signed for $1 million in 2014 and the Venezuelan native enters his third season in the organization. Last year in Low-A Quad Cities, he posted a 3-3 record with a 2.84 ERA in 15 games which included 10 starts. He whiffed 75 batters in 67 innings of work and allowed just one home run. He has a fastball that touched 96 m.p.h. to go along with a change up, curveball and slider. He is one of the youngest pitchers in the league entering the 2017 campaign at the young age of 19-years-old. Hector Perez signed with the club out of the Dominican Republic in Control has been an issue for the hard throwing righty who has a fastball that sits at mph but can touch 96 mph. With the heater, he sets up his devastating slider which earns plus grades when its on point. He spent last season between Tri-City (NYP) and Quad Cities (MWL) and went 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 14 games including 10 starts and struck out 8- batters in just 60 innings of work. Rogers was a third-round draft pick by Houston in 2016 out of Tulane. He earned a starting roll with the Green Wave as soon as he joined the program. He has a very strong arm behind the plate and was the highest draft pick out of Tulane since Offensively, Rogers has some work to do. He spent his first year in pro ball between Tri-City (NYP) and Low-A Quad Cities and hit.233 with three homers and 16 RBI. The Rocks and Astros will play a total of ten times throughout 2017 with Wilmington making their only visit to Buies Creek for this three game series. That matchup from April resulted in the Rocks dropping two of three to the Astros. The seven remaining games will be played in the First State starting with a four-game battle from June 8 through June 11. The head-to-head match-up will conclude with a three-game tilt from July 31 through August 3.

3 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #22 LHP Colin Rodgers Acquired: Selected in the 3rd round of the 2012 Amateur Draft Born: December 2, 1993 in Baton Rouge, LA Age: 22 Resides: Greenwell Springs, LA Ht: 5-10 Wt: 181 College: None (Barkview Baptist HS-Baton Rouge, LA) Bats/Throws: Left/Left Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Curveball, Changeup COLIN RODGERS: The Kansas City Royals certainly wanted Colin Rodgers. Rodgers returned to the rotation earlier this month in place of Emilio Ogando, who was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. This is his seventh start, with his best coming on May 21 when he tossed seven frames of one-run ball, his longest outing since LEARNING FROM THOSE WHO HAD BEEN THERE BEFORE: Tommy John Surgery can be an intimidating thing, and that was certainly the case going into the process for Rodgers in I didn t really know too many guys before I had the surgery who had gone through it before, Rodgers says. So I really didn t have much to base things off of. But I got in touch with some guys that also had the surgery when I was going through the process and I was able to keep asking them how they re feeling and what they re doing. That helped a lot because I could know if I was on track or a little behind or whatever. GRUELING REHAB: I think the hardest part about rehabbing from the injury is getting back to my old stuff and who I was before Tommy John, Rodgers says. Particularly my mechanical stuff. Just trying to develop everything that I had before the surgery because I m basically coming back here with a new arm so I have to reteach myself everything. All-in-all the rehab was good and was definitely more of a mental process than a physical one. DEVELOPING AS A PITCHER: The injury may have changed Rodgers a little, but the Royals still love what he brings to the table. Just as impressive as Rodgers physical ability is the confidence the southpaw has in himself and the feel he has for what he is capable of. I think I command the zone pretty well, Rodgers says. I try to get outs in three-pitches-or-less because I m not a big power guy that s going to strike everyone out. So I ve got to pitch to my strengths, which is to miss barrels. I work in my fastball (88-to-92 MPH) and then to keep them off balance I go to the changeup, and then whenever I need to I can use that curveball. Rodgers agrees with scouts about the evolution of his change over the course of his career. I don t have a preference when it comes to my changeup. In the past I used to have a preference to throw it exclusively to righties being a lefthanded pitcher, but I have learned over the years that it has been effective against lefties as well. So now I ll throw it against any 2012/Burlington Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP batter, in any count, but especially when I m behind in the count. It s definitely a contact pitch to try and produce outs quickly so I don t get deep into counts. 2013/Lexington /Idaho Falls GETTING MENTALLY TOUGHER: Blue Rocks manager Jamie Quirk has been very impressed by Rodgers hard work during the offseason which led to drastically improved physical conditioning. His commitment to being in shape 2014/Burlington stands out. You can tell his body is totally different and he lost 20-some pounds over the winter heading into Spring Training. Everyone was shocked in a good way. It totally has changed his body and he s in shape. You don t think that 20-some-yearolds can get out of shape but he did. He dedicated himself to get back in shape and had a great Spring. He had a wake up 2016/Wilmington /Lexington call in his career and we talked to him a lot last year. He was gassed after three or four innings and this year he realizes the importance of his body being in shape and it s showing it Appearances (Wilmington) The Book on Rodgers (2017) At Home: 0-0, 4.02 ERA 4G/2GS On the Road: 2-2, 3.86 ERA 6G/4GS LH Opp Avg:.208 RH Opp Avg:.238 Record when he pitches: 2-2 Wilmington Record when he starts: 4-2 Run Support (overall): 26 Run Support (starting): 4.2 ERA: 3.92 Season-High K s: 8, (5/10/17 vs. Potomac Nationals) Career-High K s: 8, (5/10/17 vs. Potomac Nationals) Last Win: Winston-Salem Dash Last Loss: Potomac Nationals Most IP, 2017: 7.0 IP, Frederick Keys) Most IP, Career: 7IP, 2x(Last: Frederick Keys) Career Numbers 2017/Wilmington Totals Date OPP G GS DEC ERA IP H R ER BB SO HR HBP WP Score Upon Exit Result Notes 4/8/17 POT T, 3-3 POT, 4-3 1st appearance of 17 4/12/17 CAR T-2,2 CAR, 3-2 First blown save of SAL, 9-0 SAL, MB, 7-3 MB, L DE, 6-4 DE, 7-6 First start of 17 5/10/17 POT T, 1-1 WIL, 4-3 (F/11) Set career-high in strikeouts 7 3 L POT, 2-0 POT, 10-0 Set season-high in walks 8 4 W WIL, 6-0 WIL, 6-1 Tied career-high in IP 5/27/17 POT POT, 5-3 WIL, W WIL, 7-3 WIL, 12-6

They said it: Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out...it took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started last season in Lexington I didn t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped... I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs...working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out... I know Brandon Phillips doesn t really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well. #15 Chris DeVito INF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 220 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Northridge, CA LG:1-for-4, 2SO Road Trip:.406 (13-for-32, 2R, 4 2B, 3B, HR, 3RBI, 5SO) Notes: Selected in the 8th round of the 2016 June MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of New Mexico. First cycle in career and first in the CL this season. Was team s first cycle since April 18, 1999 when Dee Brown did -Hit first-career Adv. A homer at Potomac on 5/19 (2R-HR) -Picked up first multi-hit game with WIL on 5/12 vs. FRE) (2-for-4) -Made Class-A Adv. debut on 5/11 vs. POT and went 1-for-3 with a walk and strikeout. -Played in 30 games with the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League). Hit.347 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. -Led the South Atlantic League with his 11 HRs, hits (42), RBI, XBH (21) and SLG (.702) -Also was tied for third in the league with his.347 contact-clip. -In his last game with LEX on 5/8 he picked up his first, career four-hit game. (4-for-5, HR) 2016 Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.261 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 60 games. Led the team in both HR and was ranked second in the league in RBI. They said it: (On what led to great success in Lexington to start the season) Honestly, my teammates. My first couple of games weren t very good and my teammates knew I could do it, they had my back and I couldn t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there... Just trying to be as consistent as possible (On what he worked on in the off-season). That s everyone s baseball goal, to be as consistent as possible.... I actually know probably more guys here (in Wilmington) than I did at the beginning of the Lexington season so I m super excited. It s a great group of guys here...i loved that school (the University of New Mexico). Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(on transition from catcher to first base.)...i absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is definitely a lot easier on the body... Absolutely not, I ve never done that before (on hitting for the cycle). I was just super happy to get the win and happy to contribute. (If cycle was in his mind after the triple) A little bit, but not much. I know (triples) are incredibly hard to get and I m not a big triples guy. I was just happy to get it done early and didn t have to worry about it. I m mostly happy we got the win. #34 Roman Collins OF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 210 Age: 22 B/T: L/L Lives: Boca Raton, FL LG: 1-for-4, 2SO Road Trip:.263 (5-for-19, 4RBI, 6BB, 2SO) Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Florida Atlantic Univ. Considered one of the best pure hitters in organization last season. Turned down opportunities to play college football. Father played football at West Virginia University Notes: Had three-hit game on FRE. Third three-hit game of the season. -Had 13-game on-base streak end on 4/20 vs. WS. -The streak was tied as the longest on-base streak on the team with D.J. Burt and was the fourthlongest in Carolina League at the time. -Tied for fourth on the team with three home runs. -Fifth on team in runs (21). -Has posted a pair of eight-game hitting streaks this season. Posted two, nine-game H.S. in 2014 with Idaho Falls Notes: Spent the season between the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. A/Carolina League). -Hit.242 with nine home runs and 41 RBI in 111 total games between the two teams. -Started the season with the Blue Rocks hitting.222/0/5 in 21 contests. -Played 90 games with the Legends and hit.246/9/36. -Collected three, four-hit games last year. -Hit.249 vs RHP and.213 vs LHP -Hit.275 on the road (208 ABs) and.207 at home (218 ABs) -Spent the winter in the Australian Winter League with the Melbourne Aces and ranked among league s leaders in total bases (tied for second), batting average (third), hits (third) and runs (tied for fourth) Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.292 with four home runs and 45 RBI in 68 games. -Ranked tied for fourth among Pioneer League batters in walks (36) during his pro debut. -Finished third on the Chukars in hits (78), second in doubles (18) and fourth in triples (6). -Was the second toughest batter to strike out in the league (every 9.03 at-bats). They said it: I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot better and made improvements... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it would be. There s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn t much different. As far as baseball, there was actually a big difference. There s a lot of Japanese guys there so the style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There s a lot more splitters than change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot... I played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball has always been my passion and it ended up working out... Definitely the fans. We have a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here. #26 Brandon Downes OF Ht: 6 3 Wt: 195 Age: 24 B/T: R/R Lives: South Plainfield, NJ LG: 0-for-3 Road Trip:.269 (7-for-26, 7R, 2B, 3HR, 4BB, 7RBI, 3SO) Notes: Selected in the 7th round of the 2014 June MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of University of Virginia. In 2011 he was selected by Boston in the 43rd round of the First-Year Player Draft, but chose to attend the University of Virginia. Sister Kelly played softball at Drexel University Notes: -Has a hit in five of his first seven games since returning from DL, (7-for-26, 3HR, 6RBI) -Tied for 3rd on team in HR (4) -Started the year with Wilmington. Played in five games and hit.278 with two triples and a home run before breaking a bone in his hand. Was placed on disabled list on April Notes: Spent the season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. A/Carolina League) and Omaha StormChasers (AAA/Pacific Coast League). -Hit.230 with 12 home runs and 66 RBI in 130 games with Wilmington. -Ranked second among Royals farmhands with 36 doubles, 34 of which came at Wilmington, where he ranked fifth in the Carolina League in two-base hits. -Played in five games with Omaha and hit.308 with a pair of doubles in 13 at-bats. -Had 26 multi-hit games last season. 2015: Spent the season with the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) Wilmington Blue Rocks. -Hit.251 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 106 games with Lexington. -Ranked second on team in doubles, home runs and RBI for Lexington. -Played in just one game in Wilmington and in his lone at-bat struck out. -Fell a home run shy of the cycle on 5/15. (5-for-5 3 2B, 3B, RBI) 2014: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.308 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 41 games. Finished fifth on the team with 13 doubles. They said it: I definitely think it will be a good adjustment for me. I went through the whole first year struggling a little bit. I know the stadiums, the teams, maybe some of the same players are coming back. I think it gives me a little bit of an edge on other guys in the league. I m excited...honestly I went in there carefree. If I get out, it s supposed to happen because I m the guy from A-Ball so I took it the right way. I just went out there and felt comfortable and enjoyed myself. I honestly had no pressure on myself and that s the way I should play here too which is what I m going to try to do. It was enjoyable... The postgame spread was unbelievable. You get big leaguers buying the spread and it is steak and lobster for dinner which was very awesome. The field was incredible. There was a ton more fans I m not saying we have a bad fan base, but it s a step away from the big leagues and kids are going crazy for you. It was cool to be around older guys who have been there or guys that are close to being there. The league itself was very cool. I met one of my teammates from Virginia, Chris Taylor, he got traded to the Dodgers and we were playing them during the six games I was there and it was good to see him. It s a whole different atmosphere. There s 35-year-old guys pitching to you and you do one thing wrong and they know what that weakness it, they can repeatedly make that pitch so it definitely was a big jump but definitely awesome...it s definitely a big thing (playing near hometown). There s a lot of ups and downs, especially if you get homesick, which I haven t gotten that much in my career so far. It s definitely a blessing to have your family come out.

Originally attended Oregon State University in 2012 before transferring Notes: Has hit safely in last ten games (.405/.450/.432) -His ten-game hitting streak is longest of his career. -Picked up his first multi-hit game of the season while throwing out a pair of base runners on SAL. -Collected first multi-rbi game of the season on BC -Leads team in caught stealing percentage (29%) Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.317 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 29 games. -Did not commit and error behind the dish. (250 innings) -Threw out 28% of would-be base stealers Notes: Spent the season with the Royals (Rookie/Arizona League) and hit.250 with five RBI in 27 games. Made just one error behind the plate. They said it: I would say definitely attitude was huge for me. Learning how to take each at-bat at a time and move forward from the negative things and take the positives of each at-bat and that s helped me relax at the plate... No. Absolutely not. I never had seven RBIs before. It was really cool. I guess the coolest thing about it was that I had no idea how many RBIs I had until the game was over and my teammates were telling me. I think that s the only reason why it happened. If I went in to each at-bat saying I already have four, let me get another one RBI, it wouldn t have happened for me and messed with my attitude. I don t think it would ve been as successful as a game... I think that s the reason why I m here. I really pride myself on defense. I try to come out every day to run a pitching staff, keep the ball in front of me and not let runners advance. I think that s what I pride myself on the most... I don t have a specific catcher. I can give you one guy. I was a big Jorge Posada fan of the New York Yankees. Just the way he was so agile behind the plate and lanky. He wasn t a big stocky dude because I m not like that either, but I liked the way he moved behind the plate for sure... Definitely an energizer bunny for these guys, I think I provide a lot of energy on the field, in the bullpen or the clubhouse. Someone that can provide energy day in and day out because we all know the season can get long. #4 Jecksson Flores OF Ht:5 11 Wt: 145 Age: 23 B/T: R/R Lives: Cuidad Bolivar, VZ LG: 0-for-4, SO Road Trip:.143 (2-for-14, R, 2SO) Notes: Signed as non-drafted Free Agent by Kansas City on July 21, Notes: Leads CL in sacrifice hits (6) -Swatted his first-career Class-A Adv. I need to be on base and score runs and help the team any way I can... I m looking forward to playing every day, that s the goal and that s why I m here. I love playing baseball and I m looking to that more than anything else and doing what I can to help the club win...i was lucky enough to go to Australia and play in the Australian Baseball League. I kind of got my lower half going, but I m still honing it and trying to get more up the middle. It has allowed me to have a little more power than in the past...(on living in Australia) It was awesome. We got to play with big leaguers and that s special just in itself. We got to see how they conduct themselves. Living in a new country was a lifetime experience...(cultural shocks in Australia) They drive on the wrong side of the road and that took a little while to get used to. Navigating and little things here and there, like stores closing earlier was a little different, but I loved it...last year really helped (on being in WIL for second season and being comfortable in CF at Frawley Stadium). He also stole 24 bases. -Earned MLB.com Organization All-Star and Appalachian League postseason All-Star honors. -Ranked among the league s leaders in runs (54, first), triples (5, tied for first), stolen bases (24, second), walks (35, tied for second), games (62,tied for third) and total bases (99, fifth). -Defensively, paced all shortstops in Appalachian League in fielding percentage. (.981) -Recorded 17 multi-hit games which was tied for team lead. -Had more walks (35) than strikeouts (30). -Hit better against LHP (.316) than against RHP (.270) They said it: On his success last season: I had a little more freedom. The stuff I learned in college ball really helped me mature as a player and really help me deal with adversity. Kind of preserve through the slumps you go through and know how to handle those and I think that was the biggest thing. When things weren t or were going right, just know how to act...i think it s great. In baseball you have to play defense and offense, especially at the shortstop position. You need to be a good defender, get on base, anyway to help the team win. That s what I try to do day in and day out try to get on base and let the people behind me score me and pick up the ball and help my pitchers out. Anyway to help the team succeed...creighton helped me. Freshman year I had the strikeouts, it comes. As I matured my sophomore and junior year I got better a pitch recognition and worked the counts. I got comfortable battling with two strikes and don t be afraid that there are two strikes on you and get nervous. I think that s the biggest thing. Not being afraid with two strikes, work the count as the leadoff hitter and the walks will come...on being rated #13 prospect No I don t think it adds any pressure. I don t try to really read into that stuff. I kind of just play the game and try to help the team win and stay inside the locker room. I don t look too much into that and try to compete and help the team...i was a big Derek Jeter fan. I used to watch the Yankees a lot and Derek Jeter play. Right now I like Brandon Crawford. I really like how he plays. He s a grinder and would do anything to help the team. It always looks like he has a dirty uniform so I kind of try to emulate that and play the game hard....i ve never been this far east. It s a new part of America I haven t seen. I ve been and played to the west coast, been to the south but I haven t been this far east so I m just looking forward to meeting the people up here and what they have to offer. #8 Travis Maezes [MAY-zes] INF Ht: 6 0 Wt: 195 Age: 23 B/T: L/R Lives: Ann Arbor, MI LG: 1-for-4, R, HR, RBI, 2SO Road Trip:.333 (5-for-15, R, 2 2B, 3SO) Notes: Drafted in the 13th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by the Royals out of University of Michigan. The long season and bus rides. In college, our travel was much less, the bus rides weren t nearly as long and we didn t play nearly as many games. I feel like that was a huge aspect on top of the better talent that you faced day in and day out... Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes... Like everyone says growing up, it kind of clicks. Not saying I m a power hitter now but it was different to add that aspect to my game. Like I said, I m not going to go out there and try to hit home runs they just kind of happened last year. Hopefully it will continue this year...on going to Univ. of Michigan to play: Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes...it was unbelievable. The coaching staff there helped me a lot and I learned a lot about the game. Constantly building knowledge and getting to know different situations to prepare me professionally...for me it was getting healthy this offseason. I came off surgery last year so just getting a full offseason under my belt and getting my strength back I think that had a lot to do with the flaws I was having and let my swing take care of itself...there s no one specific player for me personally. I m a fan of a lot of guys in the MLB because they re can t miss TV. Watching Miguel Cabrera when I grew up as a Detroit fan and watching him on a daily basis during his Triple Crown season was unbelievable. #24 Anderson Miller OF Ht: 6 3 Wt: 208 Age: 22 B/T: L/L Lives: Lexington, KY LG: 1-for-4, 2B Road Trip:.333 (9-for-27, 4R, 5 2B, 3RBI, 5BB, 2SO) Notes: Drafted in the 3rd Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City from Western Kentucky Univ. (.417/2/6) -Had 30-game on-base streak snapped at POT 5/16. Was the longest by any WIL hitter this season and in CL. It also is tied for the 4th longest streak in the CL in the last three years. -Longest on-base streak in team history since 2010 when Eric Hosmer reached in 33 straight. -Set single-game career-high with three stolen bases on 4/9 vs. POT. -Top-5 on team in runs (27, 3rd), HR, (7, 1st) BB (26, 4th), RBI (32, 1st) and SB (14, 2nd). -Hit two homers in series at Down East (5/4-5/7), drove in eight runs in four-game set Notes: Spent the season with the Lexington Legends and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. They said it: Luckily, I came back from a labrum surgery early in my career at Western and had some things fall my way and got lucky with that. Got a chance to play in the Cape Cod League my sophomore year. After that, my junior year went well and had a good season and started to hear my name a lot more. I always had a chip on my shoulder going to a smaller school and being a small school guy and I talked to the guys who were drafted before me in Wade Gaynor and Kes Carter were the two guys that went higher and they always played with a chip on their shoulder. I think it helped me get to that position and be blessed with that opportunity...at first in 2015 I got called up there after ten games in with Burlington and it was a little stressful. I really didn t know how to handle that situation. I went back last year and embraced it a lot more and had a lot more fun and stayed loose. I had a lot of fun with it. Last year they had an Anderson Miller bobblehead day and the first pitch of the game, I hit a home run and it was one of the top five moments of my career. It was an amazing opportunity and I know a lot of guys don t get to do that so I took it all in...it goes a long way. We spend so much time together and the closer you are off the field, the better you re going to play together, play for each other, pick each other up and play as a unit. There s not separation in the locker room and from what I see we have a really close knit group and we ve had a lot of fun so far. Even the guys who just jumped on board we got to know a lot in Spring Training. Like Foster (Griffin) said, a lot of us played together and we know how to get along with each other. I m really looking forward to it.

BLUE ROCKS HITTERS NOTES They said it: I don t remember any of the pain (on getting hit in the face by a fastball.) I don t remember the initial impact or five seconds after it happened. The only thing I remember is walking down the third base line into the clubhouse and everything after that. I went to the first hospital and had to go to a second hospital because the first one didn t have a dentist. The dentist had to pull my teeth back into place. My teeth were bent at a 45-degree angle so she had to pop those back in. The doctor had to stitch me up. I had 30 stitches from the top of my nose to underneath my lip....(on getting back in the box): It was a little tough because getting back in the box was a little uncomfortable at first. Luckily, I got hit in my first at-bat in the arm and I was worried about getting hit again but when I got hit, I said alright it s fine.... Last year I had the solid blue piece like the one Javier Baez wears. It kind of messed with my timing because I could see it every time I d go hit. I asked my agent if there was an alternate and he said yes there is. I said why not and got the helmet and every day I hit with it on the machine and no problem now.... From when I first played rookie ball in Burlington it s a night and day difference to the type of player I am. I have a better feel of how to play the game and how to treat yourself better. You have to play 140 games a year so you have to do whatever you have to do to get yourself ready.... I grew up a Houston Astros fan and I really loved Brad Ausmus. Now more so Yadier Molina and Salvador Perez. What they do is unbelievable and I m not quite at their level yet, but I hope to be soon.
