Chicago is in the 13th game (5-7) of a run to begin this season s second half in which the team plays 17-straight games against clubs currently under.500 this follows a stretch in which 35 of the team s previous 57 games since May 11 were against teams above.500 starting May 11, the Cubs are in their last 35 games against above.500 teams and are in their 34 games against sub.500 clubs. JULY SUITS HIM JUST FINE: Today s Cubs starter, Jon Lester, has posted a 1.53 ERA (6 ER/35.1 IP) in five July starts, going 1-2 while holding the opponent to a.181 batting average (23-for-127),.244 slugging mark and a.222 on-base percentage he s gone at least 7.0 innings in all five outings and has walked just four compared to 36 strikeouts. Lester s 1.53 ERA this month ranks eighth-lowest among N.L. pitchers while his.222 opponent on-base percentage is fourth-best (teammate Jake Arrieta is seventh with a.237 mark).
