RHP James Shields, who has won each of his last two starts (3 ER/12.2 IP), takes the mound for Chicago. The White Sox opened the homestand by winning two of three games vs. the Yankees. Chicago will open the second half of the season with a sixgame trip at the Angels (7/15-17) and Seattle (7/18-20). The Sox are 3.5 games off the pace for the second American League Wild Card they were 6.5 games behind on 6/19. TODAY'S STORYLINES The White Sox are looking to win six consecutive series for the fi rst time since 6/18-27/10. Chicago will fi nish the fi rst half of the season with a winning record for the fi rst time since 2012 (47-38). The Sox are hitting.291/.345/.484 with 24 home runs and 83 runs scored over the last 16 games (11-plus hits eight times). James Shields is 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA (6 ER/17.2 IP) in his last three starts has allowed three runs or less in each outing. Brett Lawrie is hitting.381 (16-42) with three doubles, one homer and five RBI during his career-high tying 11-game hitting streak. YESTERDAY'S RECAP Nate Jones induced a Chase d'arnaud groundout with the bases loaded and two outs to close out Chicago's 5-4 win. Jones pitched around two singles and an intentional walk in the ninth to record his third career save, all in 2016 closer David Robertson was unavailable (strain in his upper left leg). The White Sox took a 5-1 lead after three, highlighted by Todd Frazier's two-run homer (No. 25) and RBI double, and RBI singles by Jose Abreu and Melky Cabrera Atlanta scored twice in the fourth and once in the fi fth to cut its defi cit to one. Jose Quintana won his second straight start after allowing four runs on fi ve hits and three homers over 6.0 IP. JAMES' SHIELD TAKES SHAPE James Shields is 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA (6 ER/17.2 IP) and just two homers allowed in his last three starts (two QS) from 6/23-7/4. By contrast, he allowed 32 runs (21 earned) on 22 hits, seven homers and 13 walks in four starts (11.1 IP) from 5/31-6/18. His 25 homers are tied with Adam Dunn (2012) and Jermaine Dye (2006) for the sixth-most in the fi rst half in franchise history. Frazier is on pace to hit a career-high 47 homers, which would be two shy of Albert Belle's club record of 49 in LONGBALL LOGISTICS Chicago has hit 26 home runs over the last 17 games since 6/21, including 20 solo shots by contrast, the club connected on 24 home runs in the previous 26 games from 5/23-6/20. The White Sox hit 15 straight solo homers from 6/24-7/2, tying the longest stretch in club history (also 9/2-25/65) the Sox tied the club record with seven homers (all solo) on 6/25 vs. Toronto. Chicago is when hitting a home run, 16-7 in multihomer games and when going homerless in SEEING TRIPLE The White Sox on Friday turned their third triple play of the season (also 4/22 vs. Texas and 5/18 vs. Houston). The three triple plays are tied for the most in a season in MLB history (seventh time since 1900) the last teams to accomplish the feat were Boston and Oakland in 1979 (source: Elias). WHITE SOX VS. ATLANTA BRAVES The White Sox and Braves are playing their fifth series all-time and fi rst since 2013 four of the fi ve have been in Chicago. The Sox won two of three from 7/19-21/13 at U.S. Cellular Field, outscoring the Braves by a margin. Chicago has won eight of the last 10 games dating back to 2004, including fi ve straight from 6/12/04-6/24/10. The White Sox lead the all-time series, 8-6, going 8-3 at U.S. Cellular Field and 0-3 at Turner Field. Atlanta's 25-man roster includes former White Sox Gordon Beckham, Tyler Flowers, Lucas Harrell and A.J. Pierzynski. Pierzynski ranks among the White Sox all-time catching leaders in average (1st,.279), doubles (3rd, 198), homers (3rd, 118), RBI, (4th, 460), games (4th, 1068) and total bases (4th, 1,653). SENIOR CIRCUIT MOMENTS Chicago is (.556) all-time during interleague play, the fourth-best mark in MLB ( at home; on the road). The White Sox have hit 435 home runs during IL play, the second-most in baseball behind Toronto (470). Chris Sale ranks fourth among active pitchers with a 2.51 ERA (27 ER/96.2 IP) during IL play (minimum 90.0 IP). Jose Abreu is hitting.357/.398/.560 with fi ve doubles, four homers and 13 RBI in 22 IL home games Melky Cabrera is batting.432/.447/.622 in his last nine IL games (seven multihit). ALL-STAR SOX LHP Chris Sale has been named to his fi fth consecutive American League All-Star team (2012-) via the player vote he is the lone White Sox player representative on the AL team. Herm Schneider (head trainer), Gabe Morell (clubhouse manager) and Allen Thomas (strength and conditioning) also will represent the Sox on the 2016 AL staff. TODDFATHER TO DEFEND HIS CROWN Todd Frazier (No. 2 seed) will defend his Home Run Derby title tomorrow night at Petco Park (7:00 p.m. CT; ESPN). He is looking to join Yoenis Cespedes ( ) and Ken Griffey Jr. ( ) as the only repeat champions. Frazier joins Jermaine Dye (2006), Paul Koneko (2002), Frank Thomas ( ; '95 winnner) and Carlton Fisk (1985) as White Sox participants in the Home Run Derby. 1-2 PUNCH Tim Anderson (No. 1) and Adam Eaton (No. 2) have combined to go (.308) with 12 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 20 RBI and 37 runs scored in 24 games since being moved to the 1-2 spots in the lineup on 6/13. Anderson owns 12 multihit efforts and Eaton has recorded 11 during the 23-game stretch (Chicago is 12-9). DYNAMITE DEBUT Tim Anderson has hit safely in 21 of his 27 career games (13 multihit) since making his MLB debut on 6/10 vs. Kansas City. Anderson and Gus Zernial (14; 1949) are the only White Sox to record 13-plus multihit efforts in his fi rst 27 career games. He is hitting.324/.333/.529 with fi ve doubles, three homers, nine RBI, 12 runs scored and a.863 OPS in his last 15 games. CLOSE CALLS Forty-fi ve of the White Sox 87 games in 2016 have been decided by one or two runs, including 12 of the last 21 the Sox are in one-run games and 10-6 in two-run contests.
