Today, the Boys in Blue continue their six-game, seven-day road trip (2-0) with the finale of a three-game series with the first-place Colorado Rockies. With last night s win, the Dodgers have now won 12 of 16 games since May 17 and have pulled to within 2.5 games of the division lead for the first time since being 2.5 games out after play on April 3. Following today s game, the Dodgers have an off day in Pittsburgh tomorrow, before beginning a three-game set with the Pirates Tuesday night. The club returns to Chavez Ravine next week and begins an eight-game homestand against the Braves (3), Rangers (2) and Giants (3). The Dodgers took two of three from the Rockies a little more than a week ago at Dodger Stadium and lead the season series, 4-1. Last year, the Rockies won the season series, 10-9 and the clubs split the 10 games at Coors Field, 5-5. The Dodgers are against the NL West this season, including a mark on the road. Los Angeles is looking for its first sweep of Colorado at Coors Field since Sept , Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp hit a grand slam for L.A. in the 7-6 victory that clinched the sweep. Rockies broadcaster Ryan Spilborghs had three hits for the Rockies in the loss. BRING THE WOOD: This afternoon, the Dodgers will send lefthander Alex Wood to the mound for his 12 th start of the season in search of his second victory of the year. Wood last started eight days ago vs. San Diego, giving up five runs in 5.1 innings and did not factor in the decision. However, the lefty tossed 6.0 scoreless innings in his only start at Coors Field last year (May 13). A LOOK BACK: On this date in 1958, Los Angeles voters elected to allow the Dodgers to purchase land in Chavez Ravine for what would become Dodger Stadium. Blue Heaven on Earth opened just under four years later on April 10, On June 3, 1989, the Dodgers played their longest game in team history, seven hours and 14 minutes, and lost to the Houston Astros, 5-4, in an L.A.-record 22 innings. Two years ago today, Corey Seager launched three solo home runs against the Braves, becoming the first Dodger rookie to homer three times in a game. Seager was the first rookie shortstop in MLB history to have a three-homer game and the sixth youngest player overall to accomplish the feat. PREVENTION IS KEY: The Dodger pitching staff has been strong in the last 16 games since May 17 (12-4 record), posting a 2.75 ERA (44 ER/144.0 IP), holding the opposition to a.209 average while striking out 158 batters against 34 walks.
