1 Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN , 1st IL West LHP Jeff Locke (1-1, 3.82 ERA) HISTORY IN THE MAKING Indy is pursuing the first three-peat IL West titles in franchise history and only the second stretch of three straight division titles in any league; (A.A), 1963 (IL South). LAST TIME OUT Brandon Cumpton pitched a gem with 8.0 innings of one-run ball to pilot the Tribe to a 4-2 win and series split at Gwinnett... Indy s rotation had authored a combined 11 starts of 7.0 IP prior to the new team season high from Cumpton... Top prospect Gregory Polanco whiffed three times in one contest for the first time this season, marking just the 15th game of his 454-game career with more than two strikeouts... The outing was also Polanco s first effort of more than two punchouts in nearly a full calendar year, with the last occurrence on May 28, 2013 with Hi-A Bradenton. FIRST THING S FIRST The Indians plated a run in Tuesday s opening frame to extend their streak of scoring first to each of the last six games (since May 16)... Indy has plated the first run in 27 of 45 total games (60%) and ranks tied with Rochester for the league lead for most games scoring first... Only Durham and Rochester (19) boast more wins than Indianapolis (18) when plating the opening run of a contest. WHAT QUALITY DO YOU LOOK FOR INA STARTER Cumpton spun the fifth consecutive quality start for the Indians rotation with his gem on Tuesday... Indy s starters have authored a quality start in 10 of the last 11 games since May 10 (2.45 ERA, 20er/73.1ip), and in 15 of 20 games during the month of May. KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER Each of Indy s last five games have been decided by two runs or fewer, including a stretch of four consecutive onerun affairs from May With 10 two-run games and a league-high 20 one-run affairs on the season, the Tribe enters Thursday having seen 30 of its first 45 games decided by two runs or fewer. LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY MISFORTUNE Indianapolis IL-leading total of 30 games decided by two runs or fewer are three more than any other team in the league... The next-closest teams are Pawtucket (27 in 47 games) and Lehigh Valley (27 in 45 games). LHP Jeff Locke Current Streak: W1 Locke is making his seventh Triple-A start of the season and first against Charlotte... The lefty also made one start with Pittsburgh on 5/5 vs. SF, allowing six runs on eight hits in 5.1 IP with five strikeouts and no walks... Locke was tagged for five runs in 5.0 IP in his 2014 Indy debut, but has since authored a quality start in four of his last five games, with the lone excepion of a planned departure for his PIT start... LH are.172 (1HR) while RH are.268 (4 HR). Thursday, May 22, :05 p.m. EDT BB&T Ballpark Charlotte, N.C. Game #46 Road Game #27 SERIES SHOWDOWN The Indians and Knights meet today for the first game of eight total tilts between the clubs this season... Indy has dropped 13 of the last 21 games dating back to 2012 (including playoffs), and has won just three of eight contests at Charlotte in that same span... Despite suffering a shutout in G1 of last year s DH on July 25, Indianapolis offense aver- Today s Tribe Starter aged nearly six runs per game against the Knights with 47 total scores over eight games. THE BIZARRO JERRY The most recent series between the two Clubs (7/23-25 at Charlotte) featured Indy s extreme opposites of tying its Victory Field Era (1996) record for margin of victory in a 17-1 win on July 22, before later suffering a no-hitter at the hands of Andre Reinzo (7.0 IP) on July 25. ORG REPORT Tony Sanchez knocked a game-winning, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give PIT a wild, 9-8 win vs. BAL MINOR DETAILS Nick Kingham returned to form with just one ER (3R) in 7.0 IP of Altoona s 6-2 loss to Akron... Jason Creasy fanned five with a lone ER in 5.0 IP in BRD s 4-2 loss to Daytona... Creasy has given up 1 ER or fewer in five of 10 starts. DICKERSON DEALING After seeing his 16-game hitting streak snapped in a PH appearance in G2 of Monday s DH, Chris Dickerson responded with a pair of knocks in Tuesday s series finale... He now has six multi-hit efforts in his last eight games dating back to May Dickerson has reached base in more than half of his 33 trips to the plate in that span (.515 OBP), while also going 14-for-29 (.483) in those eight games to rank first in the IL in average and tied for third in base hits. BIG-PICTURE THIS Overall in 2014, Dickerson has hit safely in 29 of 33 total games (including 2 PH) and 28 of 30 starts, and also reached base in 29 of those 30 total starts... He enters Thursday ranked second in the IL in average (.349) and third in OBP (.41) THE HIT COLLECTOR Matt Hague produced a.220 clip at the plate and.316 OBP through his first 20 games but has since gone 10-for- 30 (.333) with a.432 OBP over his last 10 contests (May 11)... In addition, his first stretch featured just 10 walks to 20 strikeouts before coaxing six free passes with only five whiffs in his last 10 games. ALL ABOUT ANDINO Robert Andino homered as part of his two-hit game in Tuesday s win vs. Gwinnett... Andino, who hit safely in just three of his first eight games (.103), has now collected at least one base knock in nine of his last 12 games (.245) since May 9... Andino ranks second on the team and tied for seventh in the IL with eight runs scored in that 12-game span. All-Time Manager Wins 1. JC Hendricks Vern Rapp Wade Killefer C.C.
