1 2012 IL West Champs INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME INFORMATION Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN Indianapolis Indians 61-39, 1st IL West RHP Stolmy Pimentel (2-1, 2.77 ERA) Radio Broadcast: WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and iheartradio Friday July 19, :05 p.m. EDT Coolray Field Lawrenceville, Ga. Game #101 Road Game #50 LAST TIME OUT: 1B Matt Hague launched a solo shot for his seventh homer of the season but it wasn t nearly enough as the Gwinnett Braves (42-57) erupted for nine runs in the first two innings to pace their 10-3 blowout win over the Indianapolis Indians (61-39) on Thursday night at Coolray Field... The early damage was extremely a-typical for the Tribe, who entered last night s contest with a +54 run differential (129 to 75) over the first two innings of games this season... Although the Indians burst onto the scene in 2013 to claim the best record in all of baseball for the majority of the first half of the campaign, they have now limped to a 3-7 record over the last 10 contests... LHP Andy Oliver worked just 1.2 IP in Thursday s start, the second-shortest minor league start of his career, and marked his fewest frames in the starting rotation since he tossed 1.2 innings for the Detroit Tigers on July 5, 2010 vs. the Baltimore Orioles. SERIES SHOWDOWN: The Tribe had won five straight games at Coolray Field prior to last night s defeat, with the team having not last a contest at Gwinnett since Aug. 1, Despite the defeat, Indianapolis still boasts a solid 7-3 record over the last 10 tilts at Coolray Field, dating back to June 3, The Indians allowed double-digit runs to Gwinnett last night for the first time in the previous 13 matchups, with the G-Braves last plating 10 or more runs in a 12-3 win on Aug. 1, 2011 at Coolray Field... Over that 13-game span, the Tribe had limited the Braves to an average of just 3.2 runs per game prior to last night s offensive explosion... Conversely, the Indians had previously failed to score at least four runs only twice over that 13- game stretch, including a 3-2 win earlier this season on April 29 at Victory Field, and a 2-1 win on June 19, 2012 at Gwinnett... Indy will look for a bounce-back game tonight as it has dropped back-to-back games at Gwinnett/Richmond only three times in the last 11 series (38 games) since ORG. REPORT: RHP Jameson Taillon rebounded from his last outing in which he was charged with 10 earned runs in 3.1 innings, to allow just three scores through 7.0 frames while fanning seven and walking two in Double-A Altoona s 6-3 win vs. Erie... Although RF Alex Dickerson snapped his five-game multi-hit streak with a 1-for-4 effort, he still extended his current hitting streak to six straight games... Dickerson has been red-hot as of late, going 31-for- 68 (.456) with seven doubles, six homers over his last 17 games (since June 29) to lead the Eastern League in total hits, extra-base knocks (13) and home runs... 1B Walker Gourley went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI in Low-A West Virginia s 5-3 win over Savannah, extending his current hitting streak to seven games over which he s batting.423 (11-for-26)... LHP Jackson Lodge picked up his third win by authoring 6.0 shutout innings of three-hit ball in Short-Season Jamestown s 10-0 shut out of Connecticut After posting a 7.00 ERA in June, Lodge has now gone 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA over four starts in July... 14th overall pick C Reese McGuire went 2-for-4 for the GCL Pirates, who fell 7-0 to the GCL Yankees on Thursday... McGuire has now hit safely in 10 of 11 games and reached base in all 11 contests, batting.452 with a.511 OBP. TRIBE TRENDS: After last night s defeat to the Braves, the Indians posted a fantastic record through the first 100 games of the 2013 campaign, which ties last year s eventual record-setting squad who also went through the first 100 contests... The Tribe has posted an above-.500 winning percentage through the remainder of the season (after 100 games) in four of the last eight years since 2005, including the highest mark of.636 in 2012 after the team finished through the final 44 contests of the regular season.. Below are the Indians records through the first 100 games since 2005, followed by their wins and losses through the remaining contests and the final record at the end of the season: Year (First 100) Next Games (PCT) Final Record (Place) Year (First 100) Next Games (PCT) Final Record (Place) 2012 (61-39) (.636) (1st) 2008 (46-54) (.500) (4th) 2011 (51-49) (.568) (2nd) 2007 (50-50) (.435) (3rd) 2010 (50-50) (.477) (3rd) 2006 (56-44) (.476) (T-1st) 2009 (48-52) (.512) (3rd) 2005 (58-42) (.455) (2nd) TONIGHT S TRIBE STARTER: The Tribe is scheduled is issue a StolmWatch with RHP Stolmy Pimentel (2-1, 2.77 ERA) making his seventh Triple-A start of the season and first against Gwinnett... The rising prospect is coming off arguably the best outing of any Indians hurler this year, having limited the Louisville Bats to just two hits through 8.0 shutout innings on 7/12 at Slugger Field... In that outing, Pimentel faced just two batters above the minimum and retired 11 hitters in a row to pick up his second win in as many decisions... The right-hander s campaign has been marked by an all-or-nothing approach on the mound, as he has held opponents scoreless or to just one lone run in four of his six starts, but also yielded both four runs and six runs in his other pair of appearances... Despite the up-and-down nature of his starts, Pimentel continues to rank as one of the most effective pitchers in the International League since his Triple-A debut on June 17, and along with posting the best ERA among hurlers who have also made at least six starts, ranks in the top five of the IL in innings pitched (T-1st, 39.0), WHIP (4th, 0.97) and average against (4th,.194). TONIGHT S BRAVES STARTER: Atlanta Braves rehabbing right-hander Brandon Beachy (0-3, 3.79 ERA) is expected to toe the slab for Gwinnett tonight in his sixth Triple-A rehab start of the season and first against the Tribe... The Kokomo, Indiana native was placed on Atlanta s disabled list following 2012 Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, and has gone a combined 2-3 with a 3.41 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 15 walks in seven Minor League games this season... Beachy has been nothing short of spectacular for the Atlanta Braves since joining the rotation full-time two years ago, and after setting the Braves franchise modern-era (since 1900) rookie strikeout record (169) in 2011, went on to lead MLB in opponents batting average (.171) while tying for the Major-League-lead in ERA (1.98) during the following season before he landed on the DL... Gwinnett s starter enters tonight s start with a career 3-3 record with a 2.58 ERA (20 ER in 69.2 IP) in 14 International League games (13 starts), but has never faced the Indians. THE HIT COLLECTOR(S): RF Russ Canzler collected the Tribe s only multi-hit effort last night, going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, while 1B Matt Hague went 1-for-3 with solo a solo homer... In two games since Canzler was acquired from Baltimore s organization, the duo has combined to go 5-for-14 while accounting for the majority of the Indians offense, including scoring two of the team s four total runs, knocking three of four total extra-base hits and producing two of four total team RBI... The two sluggers have posted nearly identical numbers over their careers in the IL, and since 2011, the pair ranks first and second in the IL in total hits with Hague at 377 base knocks and Canzler at 370 hits... The two batters are also separated by just one point in career OBP in the IL, as Hague has posted a.367 mark and Canzler recording a.366 clip. NO FREE RIDES: A handful of Indianapolis relievers combined to strike out eight Braves while issuing just one free pass on Thursday... The dominant display of control continued an impressive month of July in which the Tribe s bullpen has combined to record 62 strikeouts to just 15 walks in 62.1 IP... Overall this season, Indians relievers have posted a stellar strikeout-to-walk ratio, punching out 393 while allowing just 125 free passes in innings of work, good for roughly 3.1 strikeouts per walk.
