Friday's series opener at Kauffman Stadium was postponed due to rain and will be made up on 9/19 at 1:15 p.m. CT. Chicago is tied for the fourth-most wins in the American League the White Sox are tied with Kansas City for second place in the AL Central, a 0.5 game behind fi rst-place Cleveland. Following this game at the Royals, the Sox continue the trip with three games each at the Mets (5/30-6/1) and Detroit (6/3-5). The White Sox went 3-7 on the last homestand vs. Houston (1-2), Kansas City (1-2) and Cleveland (1-3). TODAY'S STORYLINES Chicago has lost a season-high fi ve consecutive games and six straight series the last time the club lost six-plus straight contests was 6/12-19/15 (eight in a row). The White Sox are out of fi rst place in the American League Central for the fi rst time since 4/22 (also 2nd place/-0.5 game). Chicago is trying to avoid its fi rst sweep of Thirteen of the Sox last 16 games have been decided by two runs or less, including one-run decisions in five of the last eight. White Sox starters own a 2.16 ERA (8 ER/ IP) over the last fi ve games at Kauffman Stadium (3-2 record) the club is 4-11 in the last 15 games at Kansas City. Chris Sale is 5-0 with a 1.41 ERA (6 ER/38.1 IP),.175 opp. average and 0.81 WHIP in fi ve road starts (four QS) in YESTERDAY'S RECAP Brett Eibner's game-ending single in the ninth inning capped a seven-run rally for Kansas City as it earned an 8-7 win. The White Sox entered the ninth with a 7-1 lead but David Robertson (6 ER/0.2 IP) and Tommy Kahnle (L, BS; 1 ER/0.0 IP) combined to allow seven runs on six hits and four walks. Robertson allowed six of the eight Royals he faced to reach base Kahnle surrendered a game-tying RBI double to Drew Butera and Eibner's walkoff single. The Sox took a 4-0 lead in the second on a RBI single by Avisail Garcia and three-run homer by Tyler Saladino (No. 2) Garcia added a solo homer (No. 5) in the fi fth. Starter Carlos Rodon (1 ER/5.0 IP) received a no decision. Chicago lost for just the second time in club history when leading by six-plus runs in the ninth or later the White Sox lost consecutive games after leading by four-plus runs in the sixth inning or later in both for the first time since 5/31-6/1/87 (STATS). DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN The Sox yesterday suffered just their second loss in franchise history after leading by six-plus runs in the ninth inning or later. Chicago was unable to hold a 6-0 lead in the ninth on 9/21/13 at Detroit the Tigers went on to a 7-6 win in 12 innings. The White Sox are the only team in baseball since 2011 to lose after owning a six-plus run lead in the ninth inning or later. SALE WENT STREAKING Chris Sale opened 2016 by winning each of his first nine starts, tied for the eighth-longest streak of consecutive starts won to start a season in MLB history (source: Elias) the streak was the longest since San Diego's Andy Hawkins in 1985 (10). Sale won 10 consecutive starts from 10/2/15-5/19/16, tied for the fourth-longest streak of starts won in White Sox history. WAITING FOR MAY FLOWERS The White Sox are in May despite outscoring their opponents, the Sox have allowed fi ve runs or more 12 times, and left 189 runners on base (7.6 LOB/game) in May. The Sox were 17-8 and outscored opponents, 95-76, in April. Below is breakdown of the Sox in May compared to April: Mon. KANSAS CITY ROYALS Kansas City leads the season series, 4-1 Chicago is hitting.234/.287/.353 with fi ve home runs, owns a 4.74 ERA (23 ER/43.2 IP) and has been outscored, 23-17, in The White Sox went 7-12 vs. the Royals last season for their fifth consecutive season series loss the Sox were 4-6 at home.
