The Catamounts went 2-4 in that road swing. FINALLY HOME After weathering the inclement weather and road games, Western Carolina will finally play at home on Tuesday for its home opener against Ohio. TAYLOR SIGMON ACE IN RELIEF Junior Taylor Sigmon has really shined in her relief pitching role... She currently has a 1.02 ERA in seven appearances striking out 24 batters in 13.2 innings pitched allowing seven hits and two earned runs... She is also the starting first baseman and has five hits and two doubles at the plate. PITCHER GARRETT Senior pitcher Jordan Garrett has two of Western Carolina s wins and has made seven appearances with a 1.99 ERA and 29 strikeouts. AT UNCW TOURNAMENT Senior catcher Heather Chastain paced Western Carolina in five games at the tournament held at UNCW over the weekend... She had a.357 batting average five hits, a double, a run scored and an RBI. FRESHMAN ABIGAIL DANIELS Freshman Abigail Daniels leads the team, in the first nine games of the season, with a.364 batting average. 3 NOTES CONTINUED GAMES CANCELLED Western Carolina has had seven games cancelled due to weahter this season. SENIOR JORDAN GARRETT ALL-TIME WINS RECORD Jordan Garrett has 37 career victories becoming the winningest pitcher in Western Carolina softball history. THREE CATAMOUNTS NAMED TO SOCON PRESEASON Western Carolina softball placed three players, Taylor Sigmon, Courtney Price and Kara Salvo, on the 26-member Southern Preseason All-Conference list, and the Catamounts were picked sixth by the league coaches. Junior first baseman Taylor Sigmon, from Catawba, N.C., makes her second appearance in the SoCon preseason all-conference second team listing as she was voted to the list in Sophomore outfielder Courtney Price, who was a 2014 SoCon All-Conference Second Team and SoCon All-Freshman Team selection, earns her first preseason all-conference accolade. Sophomore Kara Salvo, who split time between third base and catcher in 2014, earned SoCon preseason second team all-conference honors at the utility position. The Waxhax, N.C. native was a 2014 SoCon All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshman selection. RETURNING PLAYERS FOR 2015 Western Carolina has eight starters returning in the field also returning all three of its starting pitchers from a year ago, including career strikeout leader Jordan Garrett. A senior from Henderson, N.C., Garrett tops the team with 534 career strikeouts. Western Carolina will try and incorporate seven newcomers into the mix for 2015 including two junior college transfers: Crystal Cyr (State College of Florida) and Victoria Mariscal (Pima Community CatamountSports.com Facebook.com/CatamountSports 3

4 HEAD COACH JIM CLIFT Jim Clift begins his fourth season as the head coach of Western Carolina softball. He became the third head coach in Western Carolina softball history, taking over in the summer of Prior to taking over the head coaching position, he spent two seasons as the assistant coach for the Catamount softball team. In 2014, Clift had a pair of freshmen, Courtney Price and Kara Salvo, named not on to the Southern Conference All-Conference Team but also the All-Freshmen team. Also in 2014, junior Taylor Sigmon was named to thecapital One Academic All-District III First Team and ended the year ranked fourth in the nation for saves with six. In 2013, Clift led the Catamounts to its first win in the Southern Conference tournament since Also, then senior Haley Pace was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District III First Team, becoming the first player in Catamount softball s eight-year history to be named to the academic all-district team. In his first year, in 2012, Clift led the team to its best overall record since 2007 and highest seed in the Southern Conference, a sixth seed, also since He helped guide senior outfielder Erin Foster to be selected to the NFCA First Team MidEast All- Region team, a first for Catamount softball. Under Clift s watch, Foster was also a Southern Conference First Team selection and and ranked 19th in the nation in homeruns for a season with 18. Clift began his softball coaching career in 1997 and has coached at every level including travel ball, high school and college. Clift has coached over 30 teams in his softball coaching career. Clift was a 26-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department. While on the SDPD, Clift was on SWAT for 23 years, the last 20 of which he was a member of the full-time hostage rescue unit, the Special Response Team (SRT). As a member of SRT, Clift served as a lead SWAT instructor for over 20 years. A 1992 graduate of San Diego State University in Sociology and Public Administration, Clift went on to earn his Master s Degree from the Texas Woman s University in Kinesiology in He also received his 4-star Master Coach Certification from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in Clift, a native of San Diego, California resides in Cullowhee with his wife, Eileen. ASSISTANT COACH DANIELLE GLOSSON Danielle Glosson is in her fourth year as the assistant softball coach. She works primarily with the Catamount pitching staff. In 2014, she guided two Catamount pitchers to big milestones. Junior pitcher Jordan Garrett broke the Western Carolina softball record for strikeouts in a career and also became the first Catamount pitcher to go over 500 strikeouts in a career. Sophomore relief pitcher Taylor Sigmon recorded six saves during the course of the 2014 season and finished the year ranked fourth in the nation in saves. Sigmon s six saves also broke the school reocrd for saves in a season. In 2013, under Glosson s tutelage, sophomore Jordan Garrett broke the Western Carolina school record for strikeouts in a season with 223. Working with Glosson, Garrett has enjoyed back-to-back 100 plus strikeout seasons in her first two years as a Catamount. In Glosson s first year, she helped guide then freshman pitcher Jordan Garrett to collect 147 strikeouts in 2012, making Garrett the first freshman Catamount pitcher to go over 100 strikeo The Winston-Salem, N.C. native was a standout hurler for the Salukis and ended her career with a 2.25 ERA and a record on the mound. In 2010, Glosson was a MVC Pitcher of the Year, First All-Conference and Louisville Slugger/NFCA All- Region Second Team.
