Date Site Score WP LP Att. Chi Chi Chi SWEPT IN THE BRONX--Kansas City s first official losing streak of the 2015 season has reached four games as the Royals arrive in Wrigley Field after a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees, capped by a 4-2 setback on Wednesday...it marked the first time KC had been swept in a series this year and the first 4-game losing streak for the Royals since August of last year...the home run ball was the enemy on Wednesday, as starter Chris Young was touched for a solo shot from Brian McCann that tied the game in the second and then a 3-run homer by Alex Rodriguez in the third...young surrendered one more earned run (4) on Wednesday than he had allowed in his previous 34.2 innings on the year entering the contest... Kansas City jumped out to its first lead in four days when Mike Moustakas crushed his fifth homer in the first inning, but that would be the end of the scoring until KC forged an unearned tally in the eighth... Alcides Escobar had a 3-hit contest, while Kendrys Morales added a pair of knocks...the 4-game slide, coupled with Minnesota s recent hot streak has seen the Twins catch Kansas City in the A.L. Central standings with identical ledgers, while the Tigers are lurking 1 1/2 games back with a mark. OFFENSE M.I.A. DURING WIN DROUGHT--This 4-game losing streak has seen one of the top statistical offenses in Major League Baseball collect only five runs during the slide...the Royals had won five straight heading into last Sunday s homestand finale at home against the Cardinals, but dropped a 6-1 contest to St. Louis that started a stretch in which KC plated just one run in three straight games and then a pair of tallies in Wednesday s loss...all told, in the 4-game slide Kansas City has batted.197 (26-for-132) with a.243 on-base pct. and just a.258 slugging pct. SERIES STREAK HALTED--By being swept in Yankee Stadium, the Royals suffered their first series defeat since losing two of three to the White Sox in a rainshortened series on April down on the south side of town...kansas City won the first game of that visit, then had the second game suspended with the score tied at the scheduled third game of the series was postponed on April 25 and then the Royals dropped both the suspended and regularly scheduled contest on April KC had gone 6-0 with two splits in the last eight series prior to arriving in Yankee Stadium...overall, the Royals are 10-3 with two splits this year. A RETURN TO INTERLEAGUE--The forgettable stop in the Big Apple was the only interruption in an 11-game stretch where the Royals are playing eight games against National League competition...kc has picked up where it left off in 2014 against the Senior Circuit, going 4-1 out of the chute this year by sweeping the Reds in a 2-game set last week and then going 2-1 last weekend at home vs. St. Louis...Kansas City was a Major League best and club record 15-5 against the N.L. last year when play was centered around the N.L. West. PITCHERS GET INTO THE SWING OF THINGS--The return to Interleague play and the first stop in a National League park merits a look back into the batting history of Kansas City pitchers, with Edinson Volquez kicking it off today...the veteran righthander, who spent his last seven seasons in the N.L., brings a lifetime.085 average into today s play (23-for-271), with a home run and 43 sacrifice bunts...the roundtripper was a 3-run shot in Petco Park in 2013 off of Toronto s Ramon Ortiz... Yordano Ventura will bring a 1-for-4 mark into Saturday s start and then Jeremy Guthrie will take a.089 average (5-for-56) with 5 sac s when he hurls on Sunday... since the advent of Interleague play in 1997, KC hurlers are hitting.127 (46-for-361) with one home run hit by Zack Greinke on June 10, 2005 at Arizona. 4 This & That ALL-STAR VOTING--The first round of voting for the 2015 All-Star Game was announced earlier this week and the first ever on-line only vote has produced five Royals at the top of the balloting to this point...there are still four more weeks of voting for the contest that will be played in Cincinnati on July 14 and managed by Ned Yost, who will be assisted by his coaching staff...salvador Perez leads all players with just under 1.5 million votes, while Alcides Escobar, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon are also among players who would be in the starting lineup if balloting ended today...eric Hosmer, Omar Infante and Kendrys Morales are also second in the voting at their respective positions. GRADUATION WEEKEND--The Royals will have a pair of coaches departing following today s contest in order to be in attendance for the graduation of their children...pitching coach Dave Eiland and bench coach Don Wakamatsu will be absent tomorrow and Sunday as they re attending their respective kid s graduation... bullpen coach Doug Henry will shift from the bullpen to the dugout to serve as the pitching coach in Eiland s absence, while minor league pitching coordinator, Larry Carter will be here to assist in the bullpen. KENDRYS IN A PINCH--Since Kansas City s designated hitter, Kendrys Morales, will have to watch from the bench with no DH being implemented here in Wrigley, he will likely get the majority of his work in a pinch hitter role...the veteran has hit.239 (11-for-46) when asked to pinch hit with three doubles, three homers and 13 RBI... his last pinch hit home run was June 23, 2013 off of Oakland s Grant Balfour. SEEKING A WINNING MAY--Kansas City has this weekend remaining in this second month of the season, a month in which the Royals have gone to this point... the month of May hasn t been fair to the Royals in this 21st century, as KC needs a win to clinch just its second winning May since the 2000 campaign (15-13 in 2012). TWO OUT OFFENSE--In spite of the current 4-game slide that has witnessed just a.197 average (26-for-132), Kansas City still remains atop the Majors with an overall team batting average of the Royals have been even more impressive with two outs in an inning, leading the pack with a.289 mark in those situations (150-for- 519)...the Royals are also tied with Pittsburgh and Colorado for the big league lead in two-out slugging (.432)...in fact, KC has scored 40% of its runs this season (87 of 215) with two down...predictably, several Royals rank among the league-leaders in two-out hitting with Kendrys Morales ranking second among all big league batters with a.385 mark and Lorenzo Cain third in two-out batting with a.382 mark...morales second in the Majors in two-out hits (25), while Cain and Salvador Perez are tied for third (21)...Morales is tied for the top spot in two-out extra-base hits (10) and ranks tied for third in RBI (19). THE BRUISE BROTHERS--The Royals rank second in the Majors with 29 hit by pitches, trailing only the Texas Rangers (31)...Kansas City hasn t been hit by pitches with the same proficiency as it was earlier, with Monday s plunking of Mike Moustakas only the second HBP of a Royal in the last 13 games after being drilled 26 times in the first 33 affairs...individually, the Royals have cornered the market in bruises with Alex Gordon leading the American League with nine, followed closely by Moose with his seventh on Monday...Lorenzo Cain is lurking outside the top 10 with four. NED NEARING TEAM MARKS--Already the all-time leader in games managed in Kansas City with 819, Ned Yost is now closing in on becoming the winningest manager in franchise history...since taking the reigns in Kansas City on May 13, 2010, Yost has compiled a record with the Royals, just nine wins shy of matching Whitey Herzog (410) for the most in franchise history, while he s three behind Dick Howser (404) for second...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...ned s 859 career wins are good for 71st all time, now 21 wins behind George Stallings, who managed the Boston Braves in the early 1900 s...ned s 1,779 games on the bench are 66th in MLB history. NEXT STAND STARTS TUESDAY--Kansas City will take its American League best 17-7 home record back to Kauffman Stadium next Tuesday as it opens a 6-game stay with division rival Cleveland visiting The K for a trio of 7:10 affairs...the resurgent Texas Rangers, winners of seven of their last nine, will closeout the week-long stay with a weekend visit (June 5-7)...the Royals have gone 8-0 in series opening games at home this year and have won seven of the eight series played in Kauffman Stadium while splitting the other. STILL ON TOP OF A.L. IN DIFFERENTIAL--Despite a season high 4-game slide, Kansas City had built enough run differential equity that it continues to possess the American League lead in that department, having outscored their opponents by 46 runs this season, 18 runs better than runner-up Houston..the Royals are third in runs scored in the A.L. with 215, while KC has allowed a league low 169 runs, the only club to rank in the top five in both categories...last season, the Royals outscored their opponents by 27 runs, finishing with an record. WADING THROUGH THE COMPETITION--Relief ace Wade Davis tossed a scoreless inning on Tuesday night in New York...since the start of the 2014 season, Davis has posted an A.L.-best 11 wins in relief, which are tied with Pittsburgh s Tony Watson and Miami s Bryan Morris for the Major League lead...in that span, Wade has an 11-2 ledger with 10 rescues and a 0.78 ERA (8 earned runs in 92.0 innings) while limiting opposing hitters to a.144 mark, third-best in the Major Leagues...since June 27 of last year, Wade has been even better, going 6-0 with 10 saves, an 0.46 ERA (3 ER in 58.1 IP), a.153 opponents average and strikeouts per 9.0 innings...he has now worked consecutive innings without allowing a home run, the longest-active streak in the Major Leagues...Davis streak dates back to August 24, 2013, which was the date of his last regular season start. vs. Cubs (2014) vs. Cubs (career) On Road (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cain Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Morales Moustakas Orlando Perez Arrieta (career) Hammel (career) Interleague Hitting (Career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI Blanton Butera Cain Colon Davis Dyson Escobar Gordon Guthrie Hochevar Hosmer Infante Madson F.
