1 INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES TIBE TENDS: With last night s victory the Tribe continues to own the best record in the International League by four games over the Charlotte Knights... The Indians also continued their early frame offensive efficiency with four runs over the first and second innings of last night s win... Overall this season the Indians have now outscored opponents over the first and second innings, in the first and in the second TONIGT S TIBE STATE: LP Jeff Locke is expected to make his 19th start tonight for the Indians... Locke is 7-5 with a 3.07 EA... In his most recent start, 7/17 against Gwinnett, Locke took a no decision on 5.0 innings pitched, allowing five hits, three earned runs and a lone walk while striking out five Triple-A Braves... Locke last faced the Mud ens on 6/29 at Victory Field, picking up the win on 6.0 shutout inning with four hits, two walks and six strikeouts... Locke pitched in Toledo on 4/7, his first start of the year, taking a no decision on 4.0 innings with eight hits, two earned runs and zero walks, while striking out four Mud ens TONIGT S MUD ENS STATE: LP Adam Wilk is expected to take the mound for the Mud ens tonight in his 17th start of the season... Despite a 3.22 EA (36 E in IP) and excellent 83 to 19 strikeout-to-walk-ratio, Wilk owns just a 4-10 record... The southpaw has been superb in the month of July, posting a 1-1 record and 1.00 EA (2 E in 18.0 IP) with 18 strikeouts and six walks over three starts during the month... In his most recent start on July 18 in Buffalo, Wilk did not figure in the final decision, despite not allowing a run on three hits and three walks while striking out five over seven innings pitched... The southpaw has faced the Tribe twice this season and has been nothing short of dominant, turning in an 1-1 record and 0.75 EA (1 E in 12.0 IP) with 13 strikeouts and just two walks over 12.0 innings of work... is most recent start against the Tribe came on June 29, when he also faced off against Locke and suffered the loss despite allowing just one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over seven strong innings... Wilk also faced the Indians in the 2012 season opener, earning the victory after allowing just a single hit and walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings A STALING IS BON: In last night s 7-6 victory, OF Starling Marte collected a combo meal, belting a mammoth two-run first inning home run and stealing two bases... The top prospect also threw out a runner at the plate for the second time in as many days... With the outfield assist Marte took over the team lead from current Pirates OF Gorkys ernandez with eight on the season... Marte s longball was his first since July 16 and broke him out of a 2-for-24 slump... With his offensive outburst Marte now ranks second in the International League with 64 runs scored, fourth with 106 hits and 21 stolen bases and tied for fifth with 60 BI TE IT COLLECTO: INF Matt ague remained red hot on Sunday night, going 3-for-5 with a run scored... ague has now hit safely in five straight games during which he has batted an impressive.524 (11-for-21) with three runs, two doubles and six BI... ague has also posted multi-hit efforts in four of the five games during his streak and is tied for the IL lead with 11 total base knocks during the stretch... In his past 13 games with the Tribe, ague is also now batting.377 (20-for-53) with seven runs, five doubles, one home run and 16 BI... Since returning to Indianapolis from a stint in Pittsburgh on July 17, ague has raised his average from.279 to The right handed slugger has also dominated Toledo pitching this season as in seven games against the Mud ens he has batted.414 (12-for-29) with 12 hits, three runs and eight BI MOVE OVE FO MOALES: Last night Tribe C Jose Morales belted his first home run in an Indianapolis uniform, coming through with what proved to be a game-winning two-out three-run shot in the top of the eighth inning... The longball was Morales s first since August 21, 2010 in Lehigh Valley as a member of the ochester ed Wings.. The switch hitting catcher has been one of the most clutch performers for the Indians this season, having collected 12 of his 28 BI with runners in scoring position and two outs... Morales.320 average in that situation is only bested on the team by SS Chase d Arnaud, who has posted an amazing.444 mark (6-for-18) 1-2 PUNC: In last night s victory Tribe relievers Doug Slaten and Tim Wood combined to allow just a single hit over the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory for the Indians... Over his past 12 games with the Indians -- dating back to 5/10 -- Slaten has now tossed 15.1 scoreless innings, allowing only eight hits and three walks while recording nine strikeouts and going 2-0 with three saves... After back-to-back tough outings against Columbus and Gwinnett (2.0 IP, 6, 4 E, 3 BB), Wood seems to have righted himself in Toledo, turning in back-to-back scoreless outings... the Indians closer now ranks third in the IL with 15 saves on the season PIATES OGANIZATION UPDATE Pittsburgh Pirates (54-40) -- 2nd Altoona Curve - Double-A - (49-51) -- 5th Last Game: July 22 vs. Erie - Gm 2 - W, 2-1 (7) July 22 E W: Karstens (3-2) Notables: Curry (2-for-3, 1, 1 ) Latimore (1-for-2, 1, 1 BI, 1 ) MIA L: Sanchez (5-7) PIT SV: anrahan (28) Notables: Karstens (7.0 IP, 0 E, 2 BB, 3 SO) Alvarez (2-for-3, 1, 1, 2 BI) McCutchen (2-for-4, 1 BI) Next Game: Chicago (NL) at Pittsburgh - July 23 Probables: Samardzija (CC) vs. Bedard (PIT) Game #104 oad Game #52 Indianapolis Indians (63-40) at Toledo Mud ens (41-61) Monday, July 23, First Pitch 7:00 p.m. EDT Fifth Third Field -- Toledo, Ohio adio Broadcast: WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and iheartradio Indians LP Jeff Locke (7-5, 3.07 EA) vs. Mud ens LP Adam Wilk (4-10, 3.22 EA) UPCOMING SCEDULE & POBABLES Tues., July 24 vs. Pawtucket -- 7:05 p.m. P Zach Stewart vs. LP Justin Wilson (IND) Wed., July 25 vs. Pawtucket -- 1:05 p.m. P Brandon Duckworth vs. P ick Vandenurk (IND) Thurs., July 26 vs. Pawtucket -- 7:05 p.m. P Tony Pena Jr. vs. LP udy Owens (IND) Fri., July 27 vs. Pawtucket -- 7:15 p.m. LP Chris ernandez vs. P Daniel Cabrera (IND) Sat., July 28 vs. Buffalo -- 7:05 p.m. TBA vs. LP Jeff Locke (IND) Bradenton Marauders - i-a - 2nd half (17-12) -1st Last Game: July 21 vs. Tampa - Win, 5-3 Notables: Mesa (1-for-3, 1, 1, 3 BI) Dickerson (1-for-4, 1, 1 2B, 1 BI) West Virginia Power - Low-A - 2nd half (15-15) - 4th Last Game: July 22 vs. Delmarva - Loss, 9-4 Notables: Polanco (2-for-2, 1 2B, 1 BI) Avila (1-for-4, 1, 1, 1 BI) 2012 TIBE AT A GLANCE Overall Streak W2 ome ome Streak W1 oad oad Streak W2 Place 1st Last Games Behind -- Last ome Attendance 413,393 ome Openings 50 Average Attendance 8,268 League ank 3rd INTENATIONAL LEAGUE STANDINGS WEST Team W-L GB IND COL TOL LOU NOT Team W-L GB SWB PAW LV BUF OC SY SOUT Team W-L GB CA NO DU GWN INDIANAPOLIS VS.
