1 Thursday, May 25, :35 p.m. CT First Tennessee Park Nashville, Tenn. Game #46 Road Game #23 Omaha Storm Chasers (22-23) RHP Yender Caramo (0-3, 3.93) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha faces Nashville for the 1st time this season during a 4-game set between 5/ The Chasers are coming off a 4-4 homestand, including most recently a 2-2 series split with Reno, while the Sounds completed a 6-2 West Coast road trip, including a 3-1 series win at Sacramento. Nashville won the overall season series versus Omaha last year 13-3, including wins in 10 of the final 11 matchups & each of the last 6. The Sounds won 6 of 8 games against the Chasers at First Tennessee Park in Nashville hitters combined for a.286 average ( ) verus Omaha hurlers while accumulating a 3.27 ERA (53 ER/146.0 IP). INF Raul Mondesi in 3 games hit.500 (6-12) with 3 runs, 1 triple & 1 RBI against the Sounds in The Chasers enter the series advantage versus the Sounds dating back through the 2011 season, including a mark in Nashville. STORM STORIES The 10 walks allowed by Omaha pitchers last night were the most of any game this season. The last time Chasers hurlers walked 10 or more batters was on 6/4/16 vs. Nashville, surrendering 10 bases on balls. OF Billy Burns 10 steals this year rank him T-5th among all PCL players. INF Ramon Torres owns the 2nd-lowest strikeout percentage (6.6%) among all MiLB players, trailing only High-A Wilmington s Nicky Lopez (6.0%). Chasers batters have recorded at least 1 hit in each of their last 1,248 regular season games. The last time the franchise failed to record a hit was a 2-0 loss to the then-oklahoma RedHawks on June 29, Omaha pitchers have also allowed at least 1 hit in every game since April 17, 1997, when Oklahoma was no-hit. IT S QUIET...TOO QUIET... The Chasers offense has been held scoreless in back-toback games for the 1st time since the 2015 campaign. Omaha was blanked on 8/4 at Iowa (3-0), before being held without a run in their next contest on 8/11 vs. Memphis at Werner Park (5-0). The Chasers had been shut out just once in their 1st 20 road matchups of 2017 prior to their last 2 tilts. Overall this year, Omaha batters have been held without a tally in 4 contests, which is tied for the 2nd most in the PCL with the Sacramento River Cats. Only the Tacoma Rainiers have been shut out more times in 2017 than the Chasers & River Cats. MASHING MONDESI INF Raul Mondesi with another knock last night upped his hit streak to a Chasers season-high 13 games. During that strech he owns a.380 average (19-50) with 10 runs, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR & 6 RBI. Since the streak began on 5/7, he ranks 3rd in the PCL in batting average, 4th in SLG (.720) & OPS (1.135), T-4th in extra-base hits (10) & T-8th in total bases (36). Mondesi has recorded hits in 19 of his 21 contests with Omaha this year, in addition to reaching base in each of his last 20 matchups. His 9 steals with the Chasers since 1st joining the team on 4/25 lead all PCL players. Mondesi has also tallied hits in 30 of the 35 career contests in which he has played with Omaha, including 14 steals in 15 attempts. CHASERS BATTING LEADERS AVG R. Torres.306 Games R. Staumont 3 Nashville Sounds (23-20) RHP Raul Alcantara (0-1, 1.50) WELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS The Sounds recorded their 2nd straight shutout victory thanks to a 4-0 win over Omaha last night. Nashville starter Paul Blackburn (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K) earned his 3rd victory of the year, with Tucker Healy (1.0 IP, H, K) & Simon Castro (1.0 IP, K) joining forces for the final 2.0 innings of 1-hit ball to preserve the shutout. Omaha righty Josh Staumont (5.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 BB, 6 K) suffered the loss to fall to 3-4 on the year. Sounds 1B Matt Olson (2-3, 2B, RBI) recorded a multi-hit effort & was joined by Chasers CF Billy Burns (2-3) as the only players to achieve that feat last night. Omaha also swiped 3 bases in the contest, while Chasers pitchers yielded a season-high 10 walks. Nashville pitchers also held Omaha batters to zero extrabase hits in the contest. HEY, BUBBA! After posting a.129 average (8-62) in 19 April contests, OF Bubba Starling owns a.304 clip (21-69) in his 22 May matchups, adding 9 runs, 4 doubles, 1 HR & 7 RBI. He has tallied knocks in 16 of his 22 tilts this month after accruing a hit in just 6 of his 19 games in April. Included in that period is a 12-game hit streak between 5/9-21. After last night he has also recorded at least 1 hit in 16 of his last 20 contests going back to 5/2. Most of Starling s damage this year has come i n the middle innings, posting a.373 mark (18-55) between the 5th & 8th frames, compared to a.145 clip (11-76) in any other frame in STAUMONT STOUT Following last night s start, RHP Josh Staumont lowered his PCL-leading batting average against to.175. Iowa s Seth Frankoff ranks 2nd in the circuit with a.186 batting average against. Staumont also continues to rank 2nd in the PCL with 66 strikeouts, behind only Oklahoma City s Wilmer Font (73). In addition, Staumont leads the PCL with 37 walks, 2 ahead of El Paso s Tyrell Jenkins (35). The righty has walked 7 batters in back-to-back contests, becoming the 1st player in the Werner Park Era (since 2011) to do that. HARSH SOUNDS Nashville recorded their 8th consecutive victory over the Chasers dating back to the 2016 season. Only 2 of those 8 contests have had a final margin of 3 runs or less in that time frame. The Sounds have outscored Omaha in that time span, in addition to outhitting the Chasers Nashville has compiled a.348 average ( ) in those matchups with the Chasers, while Omaha batters have managed a.217 mark (58-267). The last time the Chasers beat the Sounds was on 7/23/16 at First Tennessee Park. I NEED A HERO The Omaha bullpen has not recorded a save since Al Alburquerque on 4/25 at New Orleans. The team has not even had an official save opportunity since 4/27, when RHP Malcom Culver suffered a blown save versus Oklahoma City. Omaha also began the 2017 campaign with saves in just 2 of their 1st 10 contests, which included 5 victories. In addition, relievers have accrued just 3 holds this month after recording 12 in April. 2 of those 3 holds came in the same game on 5/14 at Las Vegas, with the other coming earlier in that series on 5/ of the Chasers 22 victories this year have been decided by 4 runs or more MATCHUPS VS.
