THE REMAINING OPPOSITION--The schedule has dwindled down to 23 dates and the Royals find themselves in need of flipping the script if they re to join the October party for the third time in four seasons...the seven opponents remaining on the 17 slate enter play tonight holding a overall record for a.503 winning percentage...four have winning records (Cleveland, Minnesota, New York and Arizona) and two of those have apparently forgotten how to lose, with both Cleveland and Arizona riding extended winning streaks of 15 and 13, respectively...kansas City has 16 games left with clubs from within the A.L. HOMER RECORD DOWN--Though the Royals were kept inside the confines of The K last night, they have already established an all-time team record with 170 roundtrippers thanks to Sal Perez s two blasts on Wednesday in Detroit...he established an individual career-best with his 23rd home run which was the record setting 169th roundtripper of the season, then later added his 24th of the year and squad s 170th, which put in the shadows the previous mark of 168 established in this year s club, which is on a pace to clobber 198 home runs, boasts a group that includes Mike Moustakas (36), Salvador Perez (24) and Eric Hosmer (23) with over 20 homers, while Brandon Moss (18), Whit Merrifield (17) and Jorge Bonifacio (16) are looking to join the club in the remaining three-plus weeks...the Royals have also never had more than four players with 20 or more home runs in a season, doing that in both 1977 and for the record, the 87 squad was led by Danny Tartabull s 34 home runs, followed by Steve Balboni (24), George Brett and Bo Jackson (22 each), Frank White (17) and Kevin Seitzer (15). ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 are adorned with the ACE 30 patch. PLAYOFFS--Northwest Arkansas, Kansas City s lone entrant into the minor league postseason, had its series with Tulsa knotted up at a win apiece with an 11-7 loss at home to the Drillers last night in the Texas League playoffs...tulsa snapped a 7-7 tie by plating four in the seventh to send the best-of-five set to their home field where game #3 is slated for tonight...jack Lopez went 3-for-5 with a run scored and Nick Dini added a pair of hits including his first home run of the postseason... Emilio Ogando, who was with a 3.45 ERA in 23 starts for the Naturals during the regular season, will get the nod tonight. MOOSE MATCHED WITH BONES--When Mike Moustakas hits one more home run he will sit alone atop the Royals all-time single season list for long balls...the All- Star third baseman tied Steve Balboni s 32-year record set in 1985 with his 36th blast last Friday in Minnesota...Moose s 36 roundtrippers enter the day tied for fifth in the American League with Logan Morrison, one behind Joey Gallo and Justin Smoak, two in back of Aaron Judge (38) and three behind the new leader Khris Davis (39)... no Royal has ever finished the year as the league home run champion...not only flying solo at the top of the list is in his future, Moose is on a pace to put the record at 43. TOUGH START TO STAY--Last night s loss opened a 7-game homestand for the Royals, the second-to-last stay of the season...the Twins are here through Sunday, then the White Sox arrive for a 3-gamer starting Monday night...after completion of this stay, Kansas City will have just six home games remaining with Detroit (3) and Arizona (3) on the final week of the regular season...kc has gone at home this season, but since winning six in a row here from July 19-August 3, the Royals have dropped 10 of the last 15 contested here. CENTRAL WORK CONTINUES--The Royals are 4-3 in this stretch of 17-straight against A.L. Central competition...kansas City has been much better in the division of late, but is still four games under.500 against the Central at the club went 3-13 in its first 16 intradivisional contests, but has a mark against divisional foes since May 21...KC is against the East with games remaining against the Jays (3) and Yankees (1), while the Royals have completed work with teams from the A.L. West, finishing at 19-15, which featured an 18-9 mark against all teams in the West not named Texas after going just 1-6 vs. the Rangers this year...the Royals are 7-10 against the National League with three to go against Arizona...of the final 23 games, 16 are within the Central Division. HOZ AMONG A.L. LEADERS--Last night s 2-for-3 effort for Eric Hosmer upped his season hit total to 166 which is good for third in the American League behind only Jose Altuve (183) and Elvis Andrus (170)...Hoz is third in the league batting raced with a.317 mark, and fourth in both multi-hit games (49) and on-base pct. (.384)...he has more than recovered from a slow start to the year in which he was hitting.195 after 20 games, Hoz has hit.336 (146-for-434) since May 1, which is the third-highest average in the Majors during that span...he s also hit.336 on the road, which is second in the American League and at this point would be the fourth-highest batting average by a Royal away from Kauffman Stadium in a season. AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his seventh full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, he enters tonight two games below the.500 mark at with Kansas City, which is still an impressive total considering he had a mark in his first two-plus seasons here...he has gone (.534) since the start of his Kansas City win total has shattered Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins ( )...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is seventh among active managers is games (2,197) and wins (1,075)...his postseason record of 22-9 represents a.710 winning pct., which is tops among all managers who have been at the helm for at least 20 postseason games...he s also 2-0 in managing the American League All-Star team, winning in both Cincinnati ( 15) and San Diego ( 16)...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )... he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). vs. Twins (2017) vs. Twins (career) On Road (career) Santana (career) Berrios (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio Butera Cabrera Cain Cuthbert Escobar Gallagher Gordon Gore Hosmer Merrifield Mondesi Moss Moustakas Orlando Perez Soler Torres Disabled List (6) Player D.L.
