1 Des Moines Christian School Softball Records In 2010, the IGHSAU adopted the NFHS rule increasing the distance from the pitching rubber to home plate from 40 feet to 43 feet. The purpose of the rule change was to have the defense more involved in the game. The effect of the change is the hitter has more time to react to a pitched ball. As a result, hitting statistics have improved while pitching statistics have declined. The Des Moines Christian School Softball Record Book will recognize player and team performances as records regardless of the year of performance. However, certain selected pre-2010 season hitting performances and certain selected 2010 season and beyond pitching performances are included for reference. In addition, limited conference hitting and pitching records are also included.
