LAST TIME OUT: Mississippi had their most well-rounded game of the season so far, racking up six extra base hits and getting a stellar start from Chris Ellis. Ellis allowed just a run on three hits over six innings, becoming the first Braves starter to two wins. Levi Hyams ripped two doubles and drove in three in the win, and Willians Astudillo added two hits of his own. Matt Marksberry nailed down a two-inning save to close it out. The M-Braves finished with eight hits total, including five doubles and a triple. CHATTANOOGA CHOO-CHO: The M-Braves have played well against the Lookouts dating back to 2013, posting three straight seasons of winning head-to-head records and going against the club dating back to the 2013 season. The Braves took 8 of the 10 meetings against Chattanooga in WILLIANS WATCH: M-Braves catcher Willians Astudillo has an incredible knack for making contact and putting the ball in play, currently riding a stretch of 37 games and 129 consecutive at-bats since his last strikeout. The last time Astudillo struck out was July 23, 2015 while playing for high-a Clearwater in the Phillies system. EXIT STAGE LEFT: On Friday night in Montgomery, Dustin Peterson and Jacob Schrader became the first M-Braves duo to homer in the same game in more than a month of contests. The last time multiple Braves homered in the same game was August 11, 2015 at Biloxi, when Emerson Landoni, Kevin Ahrens and Matt Lipka all went yard. STELLAR STARTERS: Through 12 games, Mississippi Braves starters have yet to allow more than two earned runs in a game, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.03 ERA. They ve gone a combined 62 innings, allowing just 43 hits for 14 earned runs, striking out 65 and walking 26. BIG LEAGUE BRAVES: The Mississippi Braves had their first callups to Atlanta on Monday afternoon, sending LHP Hunter Cervenka to the Braves bullpen for their game in Washington. Cervenka made his MLB debut on Tuesday night, facing just one batter, allowing a hit to Daniel Murphy in Atlanta s 2-1 loss. Cervenka becomes the 17th M-Brave in team history to be called directly to Atlanta from AA. He made two scoreless relief appearances for Mississippi this season and hasn t allowed an ER in his last 31.2 professional innings between independent baseball, AAA Gwinnett and the M-Braves, a span of 27 appearances. THE SKIPPER, BRAVE AND SURE: For the first time since 2012, the Mississippi Braves have a new manager at the helm in former big league third baseman Luis Salazar. Salazar spent the past five seasons managing the Braves high-a Carolina League affiliate in Lynchburg ( ) and Carolina (2015). It will be Salazar s 13th season as a minor league manager, posting a career record of and a record in the Braves organization. He played 13 seasons in the big leagues from 1980 to 1992, posting a.261 average and 94 home runs between the Padres, White Sox, Tigers and Cubs. Salazar returns to the Southern League after serving as hitting coach of the Jacksonville Suns (2008) and Chattanooga Lookouts (2009).
