Chicago went 4-2 on its last homestand, taking two of three games from both Toronto and Minnesota. Following tomorrow's series fi nale at Minute Maid Park, the Sox will return to U.S. Cellular Field to conclude the fi rst half with six games vs. the Yankees (7/4-6) and Atlanta (7/8-10). The Sox went 3-4 on their last trip to Cleveland (0-3) and Boston (3-1) from 6/ TODAY'S STORYLINES Today is the White Sox 81st game, marking the halfway point of the 2016 season the Sox were after 81 in Chris Sale is looking to become the fi rst 14-game winner in MLB his 13 wins are tied for the fourth-highest total in Sox history before the break (Wilbur Wood ranks third with 15 in 1972). LET'S MAKE A DEAL The White Sox today acquired C Alfredo Gonzalez from Houston in exchange for cash considerations, and optioned him to Class AA Birmingham. To make room for Gonzalez on the 40-man roster, the Sox transferred RHP Daniel Webb to the 60-day disabled list Webb underwent Tommy John surgery on 6/10. Gonzalez, who was designated for assignment on 6/25, hit.158 (23-146) with five doubles, seven RBI, 14 walks and 14 runs scored over 44 games with Class AA Corpus Christi in LAST NIGHT'S RECAP The White Sox were limited to just fi ve hits in their 5-0 loss at Houston the Sox were shut out for the fourth time this season. Chicago had just one baserunner reach third base, went 0-6 with RISP and left seven runners on base. The Astros scored their first run on a Carlos Correa RBI single in the fourth and added four runs in the seventh and eighth. Miguel Gonzalez suffered his fourth loss despite allowing just three runs (two earned) on three hits over 7.0 IP Chris Beck allowed two runs on three hits and one walk in the eighth. Brett Lawrie went 2-4 with two doubles for the White Sox only multihit effort Avisail Garcia was 0-2 with two walks. 14 AND COUNTING? Chris Sale is attempting to become MLB's first 14-game winner after matching his 2015 total with a victory on 6/26 vs. Toronto. He leads the American League with IP and ranks among the league leaders in numerous categories including complete games (T1st, 3), WHIP (T1st, 0.98), ERA (4th, 2.79), strikeouts (4th, 109), opp. AVG (4th,.213) and opp. OPS (4th,.603). His 13 wins are tied for the fourth-highest total in White Sox history before the break, and also are tied for fourth-most by an AL pitcher since 1990 (see box at right). Sale is attempting to join LHP Billy Pierce ( ) as the only White Sox pitchers to make fi ve straight All-Star Teams. HOUSTON HAS A PROBLEM Chris Sale is 4-1 with a 0.66 ERA (3 ER/41.0 IP), two complete games, 56 strikeouts (12.29 SO/9.0 IP), a.158 opp. average (23-146) and 0.66 WHIP in fi ve career starts vs. Houston. Sale's 0.66 ERA is the third-lowest by any pitcher vs. a single opponent (minimum fi ve starts) since at least 1913, trailing Hisashi Iwakuma (0.21 ERA vs. Minnesota) and Bud Norris (0.43 ERA vs. the Angels) source: STATS LLC. He has struck out 12-plus three times (14 twice), and worked 8.0-plus IP while allowing one or zero earned runs in all five starts. CLOSE CALLS Forty-three of the White Sox 80 games in 2016 have been decided by one or two runs, including 10 of the last 14 the Sox are in one-run games and 10-6 in two-run contests. Since a 7-1 victory on 5/13 at Yankee Stadium, Chicago's last 16 wins have come by three runs or less. WHITE SOX VS. HOUSTON ASTROS The White Sox are 1-3 in 2016 after losing last night's series opener and two of three from 5/17-19 at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago is hitting.226/.270/.350 with one homer and owns a 3.65 ERA (15 ER/37.0 IP) with three quality starts this season it has been outscored by Houston, 17-10, overall. Chicago went 5-1 in 2015 and has won 11 of the last 18 games overall, but is 4-7 in the last 11 at Minute Maid Park. The Sox lead the all-time series, 23-21, going at U.S. Cellular Field and 7-10 on the road (6-8 at Minute Maid Park). HALFWAY HOME The White Sox today are playing their 81st game, marking the halfway point of the 2016 season. The club's record after 80 games is a 3.5 game improvement from the mark after 81 last season. The last Sox to hit a homer with men on base was Jose Abreu on 6/23 at Boston, a three-run shot in the seventh inning. Chicago tied the franchise record with seven home runs, all solo shots, on 6/25 vs. Toronto (also 4/23/55 at Kansas City). Todd Frazier leads MLB with 16 solo home runs in PUNCH Tim Anderson (No. 1) and Adam Eaton (No. 2) have combined to go (.309) with eight doubles, three triples, four home runs, 12 RBI and 29 runs scored in 17 games since being moved to the 1-2 spots in the lineup on 6/13. Anderson owns nine multihit efforts and Eaton has recorded seven during the 17-game stretch. OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier is tied with Baltimore's Mark Trumbo and the Cubs Kris Bryant for the MLB lead with 23 home runs. Bill Melton (1971) and Dick Allen (1972 and '74) are the only players in club history to lead the American League in homers no Sox player has ever led the majors in home runs. Frazier is on pace to hit 47 homers, which would be the second-most in club history behind Albert Belle (49 in 1998). DYNAMITE DEBUT Tim Anderson has hit safely in 15 of his 20 career games (10 multihit) since making his MLB debut on 6/10 vs. Kansas City. Anderson and Gus Zernial (1949) are the only White Sox since 1913 to record 10 multihit efforts in their fi rst 20 career games. He is hitting.321/.333/.536 with three doubles, three homers, five RBI, nine runs scored and an.869 OPS in his last 12 games. EAST AND WEST Chicago is 0-1 during their current stretch of 15 straight games from 7/1-20 vs. foes outside the American League Central. The White Sox schedule includes three games vs. the AL East, nine vs. the AL West and three vs. the National League East. The Sox this season are vs. the AL Central and vs. all other opponents, including a 10-8 mark vs. the AL West.
