In their last meeting, the LumberKings split a four-game series that was split between Kane County and Clinton. This is just the second trip for Clinton to Kane County were baseball will be played after winter like weather forced the first two games of the series to be postponed. In the head-to-head meetings going back to 99, the LumberKings trail the head-to-head series 7 to 8. Since becoming a Seattle Mariners affiliate in 009, the LumberKings trail the head-to-head meetings 7 to 78. LumberKings Starter: Scott Boches,, makes his 5th appearance and ninth start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The Pennsylvania native, took the loss his last time out for five innings of work against the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park. He allowed two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five in a -0 LumberKings loss. This will be Boches fourth appearance and second start of the season against the Kane County Cougars. He has combined to 0- with a 0.9 ERA over 9. innings of work. He has allowed just one earned run to Kane County this year while walking just one and striking out. The Seattle Mariners selected him in the 0th round of the 07 MLB Draft out of Marist College. Boches sang the national anthem after practicing once before on the team bus trip back from Kane County on July rd. Cougars Starter: Lane Ratliff,, makes his th appearance and fifth start of the season for the Kane County Cougars. The Mississippi native, ran his winning streak to five games with a six-inning outing against the Burlington Bees at Northwestern Medicine Field. He held the Bees to just one run, unearned, on three hits while walking three and striking out three and throwing a season high 95 pitches. A former LumberKing, Ratliff spent the majority of his 07 season in Clinton as a farmhand in the Seattle Mariners organization. He was then selected in the Minor League Rule 5 Draft in December of 07 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. This will be his second assignment against his former team this year. He faced the LumberKings in his Cougars debut on July rd in relief and threw three shutout innings in which he allowed three hits while walking one and striking out four. Ratliff was signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent on June th 0 out of Jones County Junior College before becoming a Diamondbacks prospect in December of last year. Last Time Out: The LumberKings split their doubleheader with the Snappers, taking game one 8-5, and falling in game two 6-5. Four home runs by the LumberKings in game one topped the Snappers while a Dimas Ojeda grand slam in game two was not enough. The LumberKings took game one behind a barrage of home runs against Snappers pitching. Johnny Adams, Keegan McGovern, Ariel Sandoval, and Joseph Rosa each homered in an 8-5 Clinton win. For much of the game the LumberKings trailed. Mickey McDonald homered off Clinton starter Clay Chandler in the top of the second to stake the Snappers to a -0 lead. The scoring did not end with Andueza's departure as Ariel Sandoval slugged his 7th home run of the year to stretch the lead to 7-5. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the LumberKings capped the scoring for the game with Joseph Rosa's fourth home run of the season. In game two the LumberKings mustered just one hit against a collection of four Beloit Pitchers and fell 6-5. Ojeda's sixth inning grand slam was the only hit of the night for Clinton in game two as the Snappers rode early offense to a doubleheader split and series win. Nick Highberger allowed the grand slam to Ojeda but stayed in to work the final two innings and earn the save, his fourth of the year. Doubleheaders: What s one more doubleheader in the 08 season? The Clinton LumberKings conclude their head-to-head matchups with the Beloit Snappers by splitting a doubleheader on Friday night. Only time will tell if it is the last twin billing of the season. This season, Clinton has fared well in doubleheaders and have posted a record of -5 over their nine double dips this season. Make it Count: In game two of the doubleheader on Friday night, the LumberKings were being no hit into the bottom of the sixth inning. Clinton scored their first run of the night before recording their first hit by drawing four straight walks. Dimas Ojeda followed with a grand slam that made it a one run game. The Slam was Ojeda s eighth home run of the year and the LumberKings fourth grand slam of the year. Home Run or Nothing: Both games between the Snappers and LumberKings on Friday night were marked by the home run. In total, eight home runs were hit by the two teams, accounting for 8 of the runs scored over the course of the two games. The LumberKings matched a season high for home runs in a single games with four in game one.
