GETTING THE JUMP: The Dodgers tonight look to take a 2-0 stranglehold in this best-of-five National League Division Series against the NL East champion Atlanta Braves. Last night s 6-0 shutout victory to open the Postseason was the club s 14 th playoff shutout since moving to Los Angeles and the 18 th in franchise history. The defending National League champions have now won eight of their last nine Postseason games against National League opponents and have won five consecutive NL playoff games at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles went 5-2 against Atlanta in the regular season, including taking two of three from the Braves at Dodger Stadium from June The Dodgers also took three of four from Atlanta at SunTrust Park from July and are now 5-2 all-time at the Bravos new ballpark. The Braves won the National League East by 8.0 games over the Washington Nationals. The Dodgers have now won six consecutive NLDS contests dating to Oct. 11, 2016 at WAS (Game 5). This series marks the third Postseason meeting between the Dodgers and Braves, with the two squads each registering a victorious series. The Braves swept the Dodgers, 3-0, in the 1996 NLDS on their way to the NL Pennant and the Dodgers beat Atlanta, 3-1 in the 2013 NLDS, before bowing out in the next round to the Cardinals. Los Angeles was (.594) against the NL East this season. Game 3 is Sunday night, with first pitch at SunTrust Park in Cobb County, GA scheduled for 5:07 p.m. PT. If necessary, Game 4 is on Monday at 1:30 p.m. PT. SUPER SIX: The Dodgers went to win the NL West for the sixth straight year, marking their 17 th overall division title, as the club has now reached the postseason in six consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history. Los Angeles is playing October Baseball for the ninth time in 13 years, the eighth time in 11 years and for the 32 nd time in franchise history. MLB All-Time Most Consecutive Playoff Berths Braves, Yankees, Dodgers, (active streak) The last MLB team to win six straight division titles was the New York Yankees, who won the AL East nine consecutive seasons from The Dodgers won 90+ games for the sixth consecutive season, a feat that had only previously been accomplished once in franchise history, (6). Los Angeles was 9.0 games back in the divisional race on May 8, and was a season-worst 10 games under.500 at on May 16. RACE TO THE FINISH: Starting on Aug. 24, the Dodgers finished the season on a run to claim the divisional title. It was the second-best run in that span, behind only the Brewers 25-9 mark. THE MOUND MEN: The Dodgers 3.38 ERA led the NL and ranked second in the Majors, behind only Houston s 3.11 mark. The Dodgers also topped the NL in strikeouts (1,565) and WHIP (1.15), while ranking second with a.230 opponents batting average. L.A pitchers issued the fewest walks in the NL (422) and held opponents to a NL-best.290 OBP. The club s 1,565 strikeouts established a franchise record for the third consecutive season. Dodger starters topped the NL in ERA (3.19), while the club s relievers posted a 3.67 ERA (5 th, NL). Kenley Jansen ranked second in the NL with 38 saves in 42 opportunities (90.5%). Among pitchers with or more innings, Walker Buehler ranked fourth in the NL with a 2.62 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) and Clayton Kershaw finished fifth (2.73). Buehler also ranked among the NL s best (min IP) in opponents batting average (.193, 2 nd ) and WHIP (0.96, 3 rd ), while Kershaw s 1.04 WHIP ranked fifth. MATCHUP vs. BRAVES All-Time VS. On the year, Kershaw went 9-5 with a 2.73 ERA (49 ER/161.1 IP), to go along with 155 strikeouts against just 29 walks, a.227 opponents batting average and 20 quality starts in 26 outings. Among hurlers with at least 25 starts this season, he ranked among the National League leaders in ERA (4 th ), opponents batting average (11 th ), strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.34, 3 rd ), WHIP (1.04, 4 th ), opponents OBP (.264, 4 th ) and opponents OPS (.630, 7 th ). In his last 16 starts since July 3, Kershaw went 8-1 with a 2.67 ERA (31 ER/104.1 IP) while holding hitters to a.219 average. He struck out 92 batters against 17 walks during that time, while also posting a 0.99 WHIP. The Dodgers have won the last eight times Kershaw has started. Kershaw beat the Braves on July 27 in Atlanta, allowing just one run in 7.2 innings. In his career, the Texas native is 4-0 with a 1.43 ERA (11 ER/69.0 IP) and a 0.94 WHIP in 10 starts vs. the Braves. The southpaw allowed just one run in 13.0 innings (0.69 ERA) vs. Atlanta in the 2013 NLDS (Game 1 and Game 4). Kershaw holds Dodger Postseason records in wins (7), starts (19), innings pitched (122.0), strikeouts (139) and losses (7). The 30-year old holds Dodger NLDS records in wins (4), innings (64.2) and strikeouts (86). Overall, Kershaw is 7-7 with a 4.35 ERA (59 ER/122.0 IP) in 24 Postseason games. The Dodgers are in those contests. POWERBALLERS: The Dodgers blasted a franchise record and National League-best 235 home runs (2 nd MLB, NYY 267). The club s home run total ranked seventh on the NL s all-time list for the most home runs hit in a single-season. Los Angeles had seven players Cody Bellinger (25), Yasmani Grandal (24), Kiké Hernández (21), Matt Kemp (21), Max Muncy (35), Joc Pederson (25) and Yasiel Puig (23) finish the season with 20 or more home runs, the most in franchise history and the most ever by an NL club. The feat has been accomplished six times in the American League. Of Pederson s 25 home runs, eight were leadoff shots (11 career), giving him the franchise record for leadoff homers in a single season. The previous mark of seven was held by Davey Lopes (1979). Pederson s eight leadoff home runs were tied with Atlanta s Ronald Acuña Jr. and St. Louis s Matt Carpenter for second in the Majors this year, trailing only Cleveland s Francisco Lindor. The Dodgers also led the NL and set Los Angeles records with 564 extra-base hits and a.442 slugging percentage. Los Angeles led the NL for the second consecutive season with a +194 run differential, its best mark since 1974 (+237). MR. LONGEVITY: Legendary Dodger shortstop Bill Russell, who has played more games than anyone in L.A. Dodger history (2,181), will throw the ceremonial first pitch this evening to Dodger legend and 1981 World Series MVP Ron Cey. 2 MAD MAX: Dodger infielder Max Muncy, who was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training and wasn t added to the 40-man roster until his call up on April 17, led the Dodgers and finished tied for fifth in the National League with 35 home runs. Among players with at least 200 plate appearances vs. right-handed pitching, Muncy, 28, ranked second in the NL with a.601 slugging percentage and a OPS. Muncy s marks barely trailed only the likely NL MVP, Christian Yelich, in both categories (.602, 1.007). The Texas native spent the entire 2017 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Last night, Muncy hit a three-run homer and walked three times in his first Postseason game, becoming just the 11 th player to reach base in every PA in their first playoff game (min. four PA); the last to do it before Muncy was Evan Longoria in 2008 (SOURCE: STATS, LLC). STARS WERE BORN: The Dodgers were represented by three players Matt Kemp (3 rd All-Star Game), Kenley Jansen (3 rd ASG) and Ross Stripling (1 st ASG) on the National League All-Star team, which was managed by Dave Roberts. Kemp started the game in left field, and was the Dodgers first fan-elected started since Yasiel Puig in Dodger infielder Max Muncy, who was a Final Vote candidate, competed in the Home Run Derby and advanced to the second round of the competition, where he lost to eventual champion Bryce Harper. TAKING HOME THE HARDWARE: Dodger players consistently racked up awards throughout the season: NL Player of the Week: Matt Kemp (June 3), Yasiel Puig (Sept. 16). NL Player of the Month: Justin Turner (August). NL Reliever of the Month: Kenley Jansen (June). Chase Utley was recognized as the Dodgers Roy Campanella Award winner. Max Muncy was the Dodger nominee for the Hank Aaron Award as the National League s top hitter. I SAY NO, NO, NO, NO: Four Dodger pitchers combined to no-hit the Padres on May 4 in Monterrey, Mexico in a 4-0 win. It was the first combined no-hitter in franchise history and the 23 rd no-no in club history (13 th in LA), which are the most of any team. Walker Buehler pitched 6.0 innings, before Tony Cingrani, Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore closed out the game with a hitless frame each. HEAVY LUMBER: The Dodgers set a single-game Dodger Stadium record with 21 runs scored on Aug. 2 in a 21-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. FINISH WITH A FLURRY: The Dodgers record by month: March/April (12-16), May (14-14), June (17-9), July (16-10), August (14-13), September/October (19-9). BEST FANS IN BASEBALL: The Dodgers led the Majors for a sixth consecutive season and set a single-season franchise record with a total attendance of 3,857,500 for their 82 home dates (47,042 average). It marked the sixth-highest single-season attendance in National League history. The Dodgers previous high mark was set in 2007 (3,857,036). ROAD WARRIORS: The Dodgers went (.580) on the road this season, which tied them with the Braves for the best record in the National League away from home. YOU HAVE NOW ARRIVED: The Dodgers are carrying five players on their NLDS roster who are set to make or made their Postseason debut last night: right-hander Walker Buehler, lefthander Caleb Ferguson, right-handed reliever Dylan Floro, lefthanded reliever Scott Alexander and infielder Max Muncy. The Dodgers return with 13 players who were on last season s World Series roster: pitchers Rich Hill, Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw, Kenta Maeda and Alex Wood and position players Austin Barnes, Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal, Kiké Hernández, Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, Chris Taylor and Justin Turner. MILESTONES: Matt Kemp picked up the 1,000 th RBI of his career on Sept. 23, his 34 th birthday. Kemp finished the season with 1,005 RBI, including 733 in his 10 seasons with Los Angeles. His 733 Dodger RBI rank as the 5 th most in Los Angeles history. Manny Machado, who was acquired from Baltimore July 18, picked up the 1,000 th hit of his career on Aug. 9 vs. Col. Yasiel Puig (Aug. 11) and Yasmani Grandal (June 9) both picked up their 100 th career home run this year. Clayton Kershaw reached 2,000 career innings on July 9 vs. San Diego, and since 1920, no pitcher with 2,000 or more career innings has a better ERA (2.39) or WHIP (1.00). THE HEART AND SOUL: After starting the year on the disabled list (fractured left wrist), Justin Turner returned to the Dodger lineup on May 15 and led the club to a (.618) record the rest of the way. Among National Leaguers with at least 350 at-bats, Turner ranked among the league s best in batting average (.312, 2 nd ), OBP (.406, 2 nd ), slugging percentage (.518, 13 th ) and OPS (.924, 4 th ). In 55 games after the All-Star break, he led the NL with 24 doubles, while slashing.356 (2 nd NL)/.447 (2 nd )/.619 (3 rd ). Turner won the August National League Player of the Month award after hitting.402 (39-for-97) with a OPS in 25 games. For the second consecutive season, Turner was recognized as the Dodgers nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. Last night, Turner s double gave him nine-career Postseason two-baggers, which tied Carl Furillo for the most in franchise history. Turner s.325 (37-for-114) career Postseason batting average is second in Dodger history (min. 75 PA), trailing just Steve Garvey (.346). Turner went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a stolen base last night and is now batting.451 (23-for-51) in 16- career NLDS contests, which is the highest average in history: Highest Batting Average, Division Series History All-Time (min. 50 Plate Appearances) 1. Floro went 3-1 with a 1.63 ERA (5 ER/27.2 IP) in 29 relief appearances with the Dodgers, posting 1.05 WHIP and striking out 31 against 11 walks. He allowed just one of 12 inherited runners to score with the Dodgers, and finished the season by tossing scoreless relief in 22 of his last 24 games after July 24. JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED: Dave Roberts became the first manager in Los Angeles history to lead the Dodgers to the Postseason in his first three years with the club.
