LAST TIME OUT: The M-Braves plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6-3 on Memorial Day at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves also welcomed its 2,000,000th fan during the game, Holly Hicks, and showered her with lots of Braves gifts. Trailing 3-1, Barrett Kleinknecht singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Cedric Hunter doubled to center, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Seth Loman was hit by a pitch before Matt Kennelly delivered an RBIsingle to right field, cutting the Blue Wahoos lead to 3-2. Elmer Reyes then reached on a fielder s choice. Landoni, pinch running for Loman, was safe at the plate after a missed catch error by the catcher. David Rohm followed with a two-run single to right, giving the Braves a 5-3 lead. Joe Leonard then delivered a pinch-hit single to plate Reyes and put the Braves out front 6-3 entering the ninth. Shae Simmons (S, 14) came on in the ninth to notch his Southern League-leading 14th save of the season. He struck out two. James Hoyt (2-2) worked the eighth to pick up his second win for the M-Braves (28-22). The Braves scored six runs on eight hits. Pensacola (22-29) scored three runs on seven hits and made one error. The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first. Mycal Jones walked and Kleinknecht followed with a groundrule double to start the frame. Jones then came in to score on a Loman ground out to put the Braves out front early. Pensacola responded in the second. Yorman Rodriguez reached on a fielder s choice and took third on Juan Duran s single to right. Devin Lohman then grounded out to short, allowing Rodriguez to score and tie the game at 1-1. Travis Mattair launched a two-run home run in the top of the third, giving the Blue Wahoos a 3-1 advantage. Josh Fellhauer had led off the inning with a single to right. Pensacola held that lead until the decisive eighth inning. Fabian Williamson (0-4) took the loss, giving up three runs in one-third of an inning. WINNING GAMES: The M-Braves are 17-7 during the month of May, putting the club one win shy of its team record. The M-Braves have won 18 games in a single month several times (Last: August 2013) but never more than 18. The most wins during the month of May is also 18 (2006).
