Chicago s nine runs last night was its largest offensive output first game out of the Break since defeating Philadelphia 12-6 on July 15, 2010 at Wrigley Field. Thanks to last night s win, the Cubs have not been more than four games over.500 or two games under.500 at any point this year. Furthermore, the Cubs have not been more than two games over or two games under.500 at any point in the last seven weeks since May 27. Including this six-game road trip, the Cubs will have played 23 of 32 games on the road from June 12-July 19 following this excursion, the team will play 18 of 29 games at Wrigley Field, July 21-August 20. THE RETURN OF JAKE: Jake Arrieta tonight makes his first start at Oriole Park at Camden Yards as a visiting pitcher, as he pitched the first three-plus seasons of his major league career with Baltimore before his July 2, 2013 trade to the Cubs with Pedro Strop for Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger. With the Orioles, Jake went with a 5.46 ERA (278 ER/358.0 IP) in 69 appearances, 63 as a starter he was the club s Opening Day starter in 2012 and helped the Orioles to the postseason that same season, though he did not pitch in the playoffs. With the Cubs, Jake has gone with a 2.78 ERA (227 ER/736.0 IP) in 116 starts he won the 2015 N.L. Cy Young Award, pitched a complete-game shutout in the 2015 Wild Card Game, has tossed two no-hitters, was the club s Opening Day starter in 2016, earned All-Star honors later that year, and in the 2016 World Series started and won Games 2 and 6 to help the Cubs to their first World Championship in 108 years. WHAT LIES AHEAD: Of the 73 games remaining, more than half (37) are against N.L. Central foes the Cubs are against teams from the N.L.
