Corpus Christi never climbed out, falling 9-4 in the series opener at Whataburger Field. Yoanys Quiala allowed a two-out, two-run homer to Allen in the first to give the Missions a 2-0 edge. San Antonio played add-on in the second via Josh Naylor's two-run single. In the third, Allen belted a solo shot off Quiala to left field. His 14th blast of the season made it a 5-0 advantage. Erasmo Pinales entered the game in the fourth, and permitted a pair of run-scoring singles to Fernando Tatis, Jr. and Naylor for a 7-0 Missions lead. San Antonio starter Cal Quantrill twirled five scoreless innings before the Hooks chipped away at the deficit in the sixth. Randy Cesar drilled a one-out double to right centerfield, extending his hitting streak to 31 games. esar later scored on a fielder's choice to put the Hooks on the scoreboard. Jamie Ritchie collected an RBI single and another by Alex De Goti made it a 7-3 ballgame. The Hooks got even closer in the eighth against righty Lake Bachar, when Stephen Wrenn and Jamie Ritchie registered back-to-back doubles. Corpus Christi cut the deficit to 7-4. Despite the rally, San Antonio got two insurance runs in the ninth against Kit Scheetz. T.J. Weir spun a shutout ninth to secure the Missions' victory.
