Date Site Score WP LP Att. 5/29 KC 5/30 KC 5/31 KC Det Det Det TRIP ENDS IN DEFEAT--The good news is that the Royals broke the Progressive Field hex over the weekend, snapping an 8-game losing streak while taking a series there for the first time since the 2015 season, winning the first two games with come-from-behind efforts...the bad news is that the visit and road trip ended with a clunker, as KC could not recover from a large deficit, dropping a 10-1 decision yesterday to complete the 9-game journey with a 4-5 ledger...the trip began with 1-2 stops in both Minnesota and New York (including a rainout) before taking two of three in Cleveland...as for the loss on Sunday, Danny Duffy was roughed up for six runs on nine hits over 4.0 innings to see his record even at after tossing a pair of scoreless innings, the scored nine runs over a four-inning stretch, six of which came in the third, fourth and fifth against Duffy...meanwhile, Josh Tomlin stifled the KC offense on just six hits while going the distance for the decision...jorge Bonifacio provided the offense with a fifth inning solo homer, his seventh of the year and fifth of the road trip. ROSTER MOVE--The Royals today recalled righthanded pitcher Kevin McCarthy from Omaha (AAA) and optioned hurler Miguel Almonte back to the Storm Chasers...McCarthy, 25, has been working out of the Omaha bullpen, appearing 16 times allowing six earned runs in 21.1 innings for a 2.53 ERA...this will be his second career Major League stint, appearing 10 times for Kansas City last year, going 1-0 with a 6.48 ERA...he was initially a 16th round pick of the Royals in the 2013 draft out of Marist College...he will wear #61. BONI-FIDE POWER TRIP--Kansas City rookie outfielder Jorge Bonifacio led the club s power attack on the just completed 9-game road swing, clobbering his seventh homer of the year and fifth during the trip in yesterday s finale in Cleveland...the soon-to-be 24-year old (his birthday is Sunday), matched Jake Lamb (Arizona), Anthony Rizzo (Cubs) and Scott Schebler (Cincinnati) for most home runs since the trip began for KC on May 19...Boni hit.294 on the journey (10-for- 34) with seven runs scored, two doubles, the five homers and 10 RBI with a slugging pct. of as a team, Kansas City hit 17 home runs during the 9-game tour, tyhing the White Sox and Astros for most in the American League since May 19. CENTRAL WORK IMPROVING--By taking two of three from the Tribe in Cleveland over the weekend, the Royals recorded their first series win over an A.L. Central opponent this season and first since taking two-of-three at Detroit last September the Royals host the Tigers for the next three nights, the first time these clubs have met this year and the only A.L. Central squad KC has yet to play...kansas City now 6-7 in the division this month, after dropping their first eight to Central Division foes in April. 10-GAME STAY GETS UNDERWAY--Tonight marks the first meeting of the year with Detroit, the last A.L. Central opponent to face KC this year...these clubs will meet through Wednesday, then following an off day on Thursday, the homestand resumes when Cleveland pays its second visit of the year to Kauffman Stadium with a 3-game set starting Friday night...this extended stay will conclude when the A.L. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch. BLANKED IN THE BRONX--Jason suffered his third straight loss in Wednesday s 3-0 defeat to the Yankees, allowing three runs on six hits (one home run) and two walks in 6.0+ innings, with a season-high seven strikeouts he retired 15 of 19 batters through the fifth inning, allowing only a Didi Gregorius homer to leadoff the third, but gave up three hits and a sacrifice fly in the sixth before being removed after allowing a leadoff double in the seventh, trailing 2-0 he s allowed a homer in five straight starts (seven total) after holding opponents homerless in his first four starts he s recorded at least 6.0 innings in four straight starts after doing so just once in his first five starts, and is averaging 93.7 pitches per start this season, after averaging just 87.4 per start in SEEKING SUPPORT--The Royals have scored 11 total runs in Hammel s 46.2 innings (nine starts) this season, including no runs of support in his last three starts his 2.12 run support average is the lowest in the Majors (minimum nine starts) in his last six (1-5), Hammel has faced Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Chris Archer, Danny Salazar, Phil Hughes and Yu Darvish.
