PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Tyler Wagner makes his first start of 2015 after posting a win in his last start for Huntsville in game 4 of the SLDS on 9/7/14 at Chattanooga. In 2014, Wagner was 13-6 with a 1.86 ERA in 25 starts from Class-A Brevard County. Opposite Wagner is RHP Daniel Wright for the Wahoos. Wright, a native of Bartlett, TN ranked among all Reds minor league pitchers with 14 wins (T1st) and 141 strikeouts (2nd) in Wright was drafted by Cincinnati in the 10th round of the 2013 draft out of Arkansas State. SHUCKERS RECAP: In front of a sellout crowd of 5,038 at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, the Shuckers came to life with a 4-0 shutout win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. RHP Brooks Hall picked up the franchise s first win, tossing 5.0 shutout innings allowing 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. SS Orlando Arcia helped provide the offense with a 2 RBI double in the third inning. (See a listing of all the Biloxi firsts on page 12 of the game notes). STOPPING BY: The Shuckers will stop by the city they will eventually call home on April 14 for a Meet & Greet in Coast Restaurant at Beau Rivage. The family friendly event will run from 7-9 PM and is free to the public. THE ROAD WARRIORS: The Shuckers begin the inaugural season away from home while MGM Park is being constructed and have a provisional scheduled 55-game road trip to start the season. The Shuckers will serve as the home team during five-game series at Jacksonville, April 20-24, vs. Mobile in Huntsville, April 30-May 4, at Mississippi, May 6-10, vs. Jacksonville, May in Huntsville (includes a doubleheader) and vs. Birmingham, May in Huntsville. The long road trip is not the first for a minor league team as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees played their entire 144-game schedule away from home in 2012 because of stadium renovations. The club played 37 of those games in Rochester, NY. CACTUS SHUCKERS SUCCESS: Biloxi s Cactus Shuckers won their last two spring games (including one against Pensacola) ending with an overall record. Milwaukee s four full-season affiliates finished with a record of this spring. Nick Ramirez led the way batting.438 (14x32) with two doubles, two triples and five runs scored. The starting rotation of Hall, Tyler Wagner, Jorge Lopez, Hobbs Johnson and Jacob Barnes allowed just six runs over 24.1 innings during the spring (2.24 ERA). START ME UP: The starting rotation of Hall, Wagner, Lopez, Johnson and Barnes combined to go with a 3.22 ERA during the 2014 campaign. The group allowed 208 earned runs in innings pitched. OPENING DAY ROSTER FILLED WITH PROSPECTS: The Shuckers Inaugural roster features 10 of the top-30 prospects in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, according to Baseball America. Of the 10, three are in the top-10: Tyrone Taylor (1), Orlando Arcia (2) and Tyler Wagner (9). Others include RHP Tyler Wagner (9), INF Yadiel Rivera (13), RHP Jorge Lopez (15), OF Kyle Wren (19), LHP Hobbs Johnson (23), RHP Brooks Hall (25), RHP Mike Strong (29) and RHP Damien Magnifico (30). MAJOR LEAGUE EXPERIENCE: RHP Jaye Chapman made his MLB debut on September 4, 2012 at Washington as a member of the Chicago Cubs and went 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA in 14 relief outings. INF Taylor Green made his MLB debut for the Brewers on August 31, 2011 and played in 20 games, posting a.270 batting average with an RBI. In 2012, Green appeared in 58 games for the Brew Crew accumulating seven doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI s over 58 games. Overall, Green made 30 starts (14 games at first base, 11 games at third base, 4 games at second base, 1 game at DH) and was on the 2011 postseason roster for Milwaukee, appearing off the bench in both the NLDS (1 game) and NLCS (2 games). 2 SHUCKERS NOTES/ABOUT THE SHUCKERS WHO ARE THE SHUCKERS?: Formerly the Huntsville Stars, the new Biloxi professional baseball team revealed the new identity on November 24, 2014, as the Biloxi Shuckers took center stage during a ceremony inside Biloxi s historic Saenger Theatre. The team name was selected after nearly 60,000 votes were cast after the month-long Name the Team contest yielded six finalists. A tenacious oyster is the centerpiece of the identity, seen both in the club s primary logo, home and alternate caps. The letters BS to make up the road cap designation - the Biloxi Lighthouse logo, resiliently rising above historic storm waters. Gulf Blue, Sand, Coral, and Black make up the club s new official colors, paying tribute to the Gulf Coast. The Shuckers are the first professional sports team to use this color combination. 13 Manager, Carlos Subero COACHING STAFF Subero, 42, begins his second season in the Brewers organization as manager at the Double-A level. Subero led the Huntsville Stars to a record and a postseason berth last season. Prior to joining the Brewers, Subero managed five seasons in the Dodgers organization at Class-A Inland Empire (2009), Double-A Chattanooga ( ) and Class-A Rancho Cucamonga (2013). He led the Lookouts to the playoffs in 2011 after clinching the Southern League s second-half North Division title with a record after the All-Star break. His clubs reached the postseason in each of his three seasons with Clinton. Subero owns a (.488) record over 13 seasons as a minor-league manager. Coach, Sandy Guerrero Guerrero, 48, enters his 13th season as a coach in the Brewers organization. He previously coached at Double-A Huntsville ( , 2014) and Triple-A Nashville ( ). In addition, he spent two seasons as hitting coordinator from Guerrero served as manager for the Northern Division in the 2007 Southern League All-Star Game after scheduled manager Don Money pulled out of the contest to coach in the All-Star Futures Game. Another career highlight came in July 2009 when he served as the pitcher for Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder during the MLB Home Run Derby in St. Louis. Fielder won the contest. Before coaching, Guerrero had a 19-year playing career that included stints in the minor leagues with Toronto and Milwaukee. He also played professionally in Mexico, Taiwan and the independent Northern League. The former infielder played in the Brewers farm system with Class-A Stockton ( ), Double-A El Paso ( ) and Triple-A Denver ( ). In 1998, Guerrero won a league championship in Taiwan, claiming the batting title with a.361 batting average. Guerrero s father, Epy, was a renowned Major League scout in the Dominican Republic, while his brother, Mike, is the first base coach with the Brewers. Sandy and his wife, Jessica, reside in Huntsville, Alabama. Pitching Coach, Chris Hook Hook, 46, is in his eighth season in the Brewers organization. He served as pitching coach at Double-A Huntsville each of the past three seasons. Hook originally joined the organization as pitching coach at Huntsville in 2008, and spent three seasons in the same role with Class-A Wisconsin from before returning to Huntsville ( ). This past offseason, he served as pitching coach with the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League. Prior to joining the Brewers, Hook was the pitching coach for the Florence Freedom of the independent Frontier League from He also spent three seasons as the pitching coach for Northern Kentucky University from Hook was a pitcher for 11 professional seasons ( ), including two years in the Major Leagues with San Francisco from He went 5-2 with a 5.89 ERA in 55 career Major League games. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Cincinnati in 1989, he also pitched in the minor leagues with San Diego, San Francisco, California and Houston. He finished his playing career in the independent Atlantic League. Since 2001, Hook has owned and operated a baseball training center based in Florence, Kentucky, where he resides along with his wife, Toni, and their two sons, Christian and Brennan BILOXI SHUCKERS PAGE 13
