The defending Atlantic 10 champion 49ers are currently on the year, including 14-7 in the tough A-10. The Blue Hose downed Charlotte earlier this season on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the PC Baseball Complex by the score of 5-2. ROUGH FINAL WEEK: The meeting with Charlotte is the beginning of a rigorous six games in six days stretch that closes out the year for PC. After their meeting with Charlotte and a home date with Georgia State on Tuesday, May 13 at 3 p.m., PC then travels to the lowcountry of South Carolina for four games in four days. The Blue Hose first take on future Big South Conference foe Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday, May 14 before closing out their 2008 season with a three-game set with SoCon power The Citadel at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. The first game of the three-game series is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. The Blue Hose and Bulldogs will then face off at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 16 before concluding the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, May 17. SERIES: The Blue Hose and Charlotte first met on the diamond earlier this season with PC owning a win in the only game in the series entering Monday's game. The Blue Hose will be facing off against Georgia State for the third time in the last week when they square off on Tuesday at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose and Panthers played three times during 1995 and The Panthers took the first game in the series in 1995, 6-2. The Blue Hose downed the Panthers 7-3 and 10-3 in Georgia State has won the last two games in the series after its doubleheader sweep of PC last week to hold a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series.

2 ON THE RADIO: The 2008 season marks the beginning of a new era of radio for PC baseball as it is the first season that new radio flagship Real Radio 860 WLBG will broadcast Blue Hose baseball. The Voice of the Blue Hose, John Avery, will provide play-by-play for PC's final home game of the year against Georgia State on Tuesday, May 13 at the PC Baseball Complex. LYDA A FIRE: Lyda finished PC's last game against USC Upstate going 4-for-5 from the plate in the contest, scoring one run. Since the start of his PC team season-high 15-game hitting streak in PC s win over Wofford on March 25 (which concluded in mid-april), Lyda has now hit successfully in 24 of PC s last 28 contests. Lyda also has a team-best 16 multiple hit games in 2008, but his four-hit performance on Wednesday evening was a season-high. IT TAKES TWO: The Blue Hose claimed their first NCAA Division I series by taking two out of three from the Marist Red Foxes. The Blue Hose claimed their final home series win of the year by taking two of three from the Tigers of Savannah State. PC-CHARLOTTE EARLIER THIS YEAR: Behind six strong innings from pitcher Eric Tatum, Presbyterian College defeated visiting Charlotte 5-2 at the PC Baseball Complex on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The victory was PC's third of the year and it was Charlotte's first loss of the season. Tatum (Buford, Ga.) led the way for PC by allowing one run on three hits in six innings on the mound. Additionally, he struck out four Charlotte batters, permitting just two walks in his first victory of the season. Reliever Zach Snipes (Belton, S.C.) picked up his first save by allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two batters in 2.1 innings. The top of the batting order carried PC in scoring, which included Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) who finished by hitting 2-for-4 with one RBI and a double. Teammate Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) also had a 2-for-4 afternoon, recording one RBI. Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) led the Blue Hose lineup with a 2-for-4, one RBI game that included a triple. PC manufactured the first run of the game in the bottom half of the first inning with a double down the right field line by Lyda. After a wild pitch allowed Lyda to reach third, Craven followed with a single up the middle for the early 1-0 lead. The Blue Hose added four runs in the second inning, providing the cushion for a lead they would not relinquish. Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) started the inning with a single into right field, scoring on the following at-bat with a double to left by Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.). Two batters later, Harmon scored Rhinesmith on a triple for the 3-0 lead. Lyda then kept the PC runs coming with a single to right field. He then advanced to third on an error in the wet outfield, scoring Harmon on the play. The fourth and final run of the inning came across the plate on a ground out to short by Craven moving the lead to 5-0. Charlotte scored one run in the top of the sixth coming on a single to right field by Chris Taylor, driving home Shayne Moody from second. The 49ers scored again in the top of the seventh when O Brien Taylor scored from third on an infield error by PC. PC-GEORGIA STATE LAST WEEK: Jared Combs finished with three hits, but it was not enough as Presbyterian College dropped both games of a doubleheader with Georgia State at The Field at Panthersville on Tuesday, May 6. Georgia State won game one, They tallied a 7-1 win in game two. Combs (Pooler, Ga.) overall was 3-for-8 for PC in the two games, collecting two RBIs. He was one of four Blue Hose to finish with multiple hits on Tuesday. Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.), Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) each had two hits on Tuesday. The Blue Hose jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first game. Combs singled through the left side to score Lyda, who had arrived on base after singling through the right side to start the game. The Panthers tied the game with one run in the bottom of the frame. They scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-1 lead that they would never relinquish. Craven singled in PC s second run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning to cut the GSU lead to 6-2. The Panthers then added another run in the bottom of the frame to push their lead back to five at 7-2. Combs then picked up his second RBI of the game to lead PC to its final two runs of the game in the top of the seventh before GSU added three over the course of the next three innings to set the final score at Combs was 2-for-4 overall in the contest, while Combs was 2-for-5. Lyda scored two runs in the game and Combs had two RBIs. Georgia State s Bradley Logan led the Panthers in the first game, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate in the game. Logan had two home runs in the first game. Horton led the Blue Hose in the second game with two hits. He was 2-for-3 overall. Craven and Combs both had one hit in the second game. Logan continued his offensive onslaught in the doubleheader for GSU in the second game, collecting two hits to finish with seven hits on Tuesday.

3 LAST TIME OUT: Cory Lyda finished with a game-high four hits in Presbyterian College s 9-2 loss to USC Upstate last Wednesday at Harley Park. Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) was 4-for-5 in the contest, scoring one run. Overall PC out-hit the Spartans in the contest with Lyda and Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) combining for seven of PC s 11 hits in the contest. Rhinesmith was 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI on Wednesday for PC. Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) rounded out PC batters with multiple hits on Wednesday. Craven was 2-for-3. Mitchell Odom (Oconee, Ga.) fanned a PC gamehigh three batters in relief of Blue Hose starter Jim Wagers (Blackstock, S.C.). Ben Dollar (Gaffney, S.C.) hurled the final three innings in the game for PC, striking out two. Keith Bisgounis tallied a teambest three hits for the Spartans in their victory. He scored two runs and he had one RBI. USC Upstate starting pitcher Phillip Myers struck out a game-high seven batters. The Blue Hose picked up the first run in the contest when Combs sacrificed to left field to score Lyda, who had led off the contest for PC by singling up the middle. The Spartans took the lead in the bottom of the first with four runs of their own. They added three more in the bottom half of the third inning to take a 7-1 lead. PC cut the Spartans lead to five runs in the top of the fourth at 7-2 with a Rhinesmith home run. The home run was Rhinesmith s first of the year and his first as a Blue Hose. The Spartans added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to set the final score at 9-2. HOME SWEET HOME: The Blue Hose are 8-7 in 2008 in the friendly confines of the PC Baseball Complex. DAYDREAM BELIEVER: The Blue Hose have tallied all 12 of their wins entering their final week of the 2008 season during the day. FIRST DI WIN: Presbyterian College s baseball team picked up its first NCAA Division I victory on Saturday, February 23 with a 4-2 game two win over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at the PC Baseball Complex. The game two victory by PC earned the Blue Hose a split with UNCA in their season-opening doubleheader. In PC s 4-2 win in game two the Blue Hose allowed the Bulldogs to strike first and take a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning. The lead would not last. In fact, PC scored three runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back. Jesse Harmon got things going for the Blue Hose in the frame by doubling to left centerfield. Cory Lyda then gave PC its first run of the 2008 season by hitting a double to right field to plate Harmon. The score 1-1, Lyda then scored on an error by the UNCA first baseman to give PC a 2-1 advantage. Freshman Nate Horton a couple batters later then singled up the middle to score Casey Carlson and give PC the eventual game-winning run. Asheville would score one run in the top of the third to make it 3-2, but PC plated one more in the sixth inning to place the game out of reach. Zac Rhinesmith acquired the RBI for PC in the sixth when he sacrificed to right field to bring in Steven Henry, who had doubled down the line to start the inning for PC. Overall in PC s first DI win, Horton led PC, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI at the dish. He was the only PC player to record multiple hits. Ben Dollar pitched seven strong innings against UNC Asheville to earn his first victory of the season from the hill. Dollar allowed just three hits and fanned six in the 4-2 game two win. INTO THE LATER INNINGS: The Blue Hose are 9-2 in games in which they lead after the sixth inning. PC is 6-2 when leading after the seventh and 7-2 when going into the final frame with the advantage. TWO-PLUS: PC is 3-1 on the year when they hit two or more home runs in a single contest. WE NEED MORE: The Blue Hose are 10-9 on the season in games in which they have out-hit their opponent. PC PITCHING ROTATION: The Blue Hose will deal right-handed pitcher Jesse Harmon in the Charlotte game. Harmon has 34 strikeouts on the season. The Blue Hose coaching staff has not yet determined its starter for the Georgia State game and for the rest of PC's final week.

5 HEAD COACH ELTON POLLOCK Elton Pollock, a 1995 graduate of Presbyterian College, begins his fourth season as head coach of the Blue Hose baseball program. He is the third head coach in the modern day history of the Blue Hose baseball program since it was restarted in the 1988 season. In the 2007 season, Pollock and the Blue Hose finished with their highest winning percentage under his guidance. Overall, PC concluded their final DII season with 18 victories, including 13 at the PC Baseball Complex. In his second season in 2006, Pollock guided the Blue Hose to more wins than they had acquired in his first year in charge overall with 19. PC finished with seven league victories. The Blue Hose also picked up a win in the Food Lion SAC Tournament. In his first season in 2005, Pollock coached a young team to a record of 17 wins against 40 losses that included a 6-15 mark in the South Atlantic Conference regular season. The Blue Hose made great strides down the stretch, including in the 2005 Food Lion SAC Tournament. After losing to top seed Catawba College, PC responded by elimanting Mars Hill College and Newberry College to advance to the semifinals of the elimination bracket. Prior to his return to PC, Pollock had spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Blue Hose baseball program, including the 2004 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach. He is the former owner of Diamond League, Inc. (professional indoor training center) in Laurens, S.C. Pollock, a former two-sport standout at Presbyterian College from , returned to his alma mater in 2002 after spending seven years in the business world, most recently with WorldCom in Cary, N.C. Prior to his stint at WorldCom, he worked with Delta Airlines and was a loan officer at Allison Mortgage and Palmetto Funding Group. Pollock earned a bachelor of science degree in Sociology with a minor in Computer Science from Presbyterian College in During his time at PC, he was a three-year letterwinner with the football team and a four-year letterwinner with the baseball team. Pollock finished an impressive baseball career at PC as the program s career leader in home runs (34), while ranking second in slugging percentage (.616) and triples (11), third in total bases (382), tied for fourth in runs scored (169), and fifth in batting average (.348). Following graduation, Pollock was drafted in the 15th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent three years in their minor league system before retiring in Pollock is married to the former Karen Prioleau of Greenville, S.C., and the couple has two daughters, Madison (5) and Lauren (3). The Pollock family lives in Laurens, S.C.
