I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out...it took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started in Lexington in I didn t even think about it. (On what is important to him on the field) I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. It s 140 games which is a lot more than where I was two years ago where I just played in 60 games. It was more of a mental adjustment for me. It s a lot of playing and a lot of games. If you didn t do good one week, you have to keep working. I dealt with my struggles by staying positive, trust in the process and come to work every day...(on who helped him get through the season) My hitting coach last year in Lexington really helped me a lot and talked to me a lot. We went to Disney Word and it was a lot of fun. I came later in 2013 and went to Kansas City because I won the Player of the Year in the Dominican Summer League...(Culture shock moving to U.S.) In the Dominican Leagues you are just in the complexes that they have 24/7. Here in the United States, we go to hotels, we can walk to different places, go to dinner and it is a bit of a shock...(goals this season) I just want to keep going and have better numbers and stay healthy. They said it:(on what led to great success in Lexington to start the 2017 season) Honestly, my teammates. My first couple of games weren t very good and my teammates knew I could do it, they had my back and I couldn t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there... (On attending the University of New Mexico) I loved that school. Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(on transition from catcher to first base.)...i absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is definitely a lot easier on the body... (On hitting for the cycle) Absolutely not, I ve never done that before I was just super happy to get the win and happy to contribute. (If cycle was in his mind after the triple) A little bit,but not much. I know (triples) are incredibly hard to get and I m not a big triples guy. I was just happy to get it done early and didn t have to worry about it.

I just want to continue that success and keep it going...(on initial impressions of playing outfield at Frawley Stadium) If you are going to be a center fielder or an outfielder in general here, you re going to need to have speed to cover a lot of ground. I feel like this ballpark is just what I need... (On being highly regarded high school pitcher) I miss it sometimes and want to get out there. I try to beg my managers to let me go out there for one inning. I do miss it and it was a lot of fun...(on being born in Newark, DE) My parents lived here a few years and I m sure they had a great time. We don t talk too much about Delaware because they are from Baltimore. One of my goals it to be a Carolina League All-Star So I want to do that and hopefully move up to the next level... (Something people might not know about him) I like to dance a lot. It might be during batting practice, a pitching change that s just something I like to do...(on any other skills he has) I played the saxophone in middle school. (21 SB in 60 games with WIL) -Finished fifth in organization in stolen bases despite missing a total of five weeks due to injury. -Hit first-career Class-A Adv. homer on 2016 Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League). -Put together a solid pro debut season, hitting.291 with eight doubles, four triples, a pair of homers and drove in 28 runs. -Stole 36 bags which led the Pioneer League and were ten more than anyone else in the league. -He finished with the third most stolen bases of any farmhand in the Royals system. They said it: (On injury earlier last season) I got hurt in (Low-A) Lexington, pulled my hamstring. I went down to Arizona (Rookie League) for a while, rehabbed it. I took that rehab processes really seriously so I could get back on the field. I thought I would end up going back to Lexington to keep on playing, but they ended up asking me to come up to Wilmington and hop in the lineup. Like I said, I took that rehab process pretty seriously. I guess leg injuries aren t too much to mess around with and I want to be able to stay on the field and try to contribute to the team...(on having any other major injuries during career) I had Tommy John surgery, but that was back in college. In my professional career, the (hamstring injury) was the first injury I ve had. My first leg injury as well, so it was kind of new to me; the steps, the process to get through it. A little bit of prayer and a little bit of work with our trainers, I m able to get back on the field. (On seeing familiar faces with the Rocks) I think it makes that transition to a different level of ball easier. You are not so in awe of everything that is going on. You are realizing you are really cool with the guys that are around you and you fit in with them so it makes that transition easier, a lot more fun and less hectic...i think what led to the success (with Idaho Falls) was me buying into the process that these guys told me to buy into when they first drafted me. It was kind of new to me how they did everything around here. The offseason and prepping myself before games, staying up the middle and being able to go the other way, not necessarily pull the ball so much, just try to get myself on base, let my legs work and do what it can for the team. I think that helped me out a lot. It took a lot of stress and pressure off of me at the plate...(if base stealing is majority of his game) I wouldn t say (stealing) is the name of my game. I definitely want to get on and be able to score runs, put myself into a position where guys get pitches that they can drive and make the pitcher have to work when I m on base. Stealing bases helps me out, helps the team out and I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win. #6 Oliver Nunez INF Ht: 5 10 Wt: 170 Age: 23 B/T: S/R Lives: Bani, D.R. They said it: (On his season-ending injury in 2017) It came at a bad time because I was starting to get a little hot. When it happened, I definitely knew something was wrong. I wasn t sure if it was season-ending or not, unfortunately it turned out to be that way. After that, I was hoping to be back soon. A month passed, I went to Arizona and did a lot of stimulation work to try and get my deltoid fired up and get it working again. Throughout the whole offseason I did that. I ve been strengthening the muscles around it incase it doesn t come back. Unfortunately, nothing much has changed too much, but all the muscles around it have gotten a lot stronger. It s been a crazy process and hopefully my deltoid will come back. I played great in Spring Training without it so we ll see what happens... (How it has changed his game) It s definitely been a struggle with fatigue. It gets tired more quickly, especially throwing and hitting. I ve made some adjustments so it doesn t fatigue as fast. I moved my elbow a little lower in my stance and my trap has compensated a lot for the loss for throwing. I was struggling with that in the offseason in terms of the strength, but it s getting better and things are looking up...(playing in cold weather coming back from injury) I actually do like playing in cold weather. I come from a foggy beach town, so I m used to the cold weather and overcast skies. It doesn t bother me. Obviously, if you still get jammed, it s going to hurt your hands pretty bad. In regards to my injury, I can t feel my shoulder. So it doesn t bother me either in hot or cold weather... (Having some experience in Wilmington) I m very happy that I played a little bit here last year. I know what I m getting myself into regarding what the area is like, what the ballparks are like and what some of the other teams are like. Especially to know how Frawley Stadium plays because the air is a little thick and you aren t #22 Meibrys Viloria C Ht: 5 11 Wt: 220 Age: 21 B/T:L/R Lives: Cartagena, Columbia LG: 0-for-4, BB, 2SO (5/23@POT) Road Trip: 4-for-19, 2B, 3BB, 3SO H.S./O.B.S.: -1/+5 Notes: Signed as non-drafted Free Agent by Kansas City on July 2, Enters this season Rated as the 18th-best prospect according to MLB.com and 24th-best prospect in the organization per Baseball America and only player on Blue Rocks roster on Royals 40-man roster. They Said It: (Thoughts on last season) It was a long season last year. I tried to go out and play hard every night. I started out struggling, but I worked with my hitting coach and it helped me a lot. I watched a lot of video on my swing to watch my mechanics. I hit with a leg kick which is more difficult. If you don t have your timing down with a leg kick, you don t have a chance. I had to make adjustments mentally during the first month of the season. If you aren t strong mentally, you can t play this game...(on feeling pressure as one of the youngest player in the SAL) I felt pressure being in A-ball for the first time in my career. I just wanted to go out and just play. I wanted to just play my game and put the ball in play...(lifestyle in Colombia) It s too hot. Where I m from in Cartagena it is really hot. We have everything though. We have a lot of beaches and lakes and it s fun. I miss the food the most, especially the fish. I miss my family too. They won t be able to see me play this year because of a family matter, but maybe next year. #26 Emmanuel Rivera INF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 195 Age: 21 B/T: R/R Lives: Mayaguez, Puerto Rico LG: 1-for-4, SO Homestand: 1-for-4, SO H.S./O.B.S.: +4/+4 Notes: Drafted in the 19th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City from Interamerican Univ. of Puerto Rico. He stole a career-high nine bases in 13 attempts. They said it: (On success in Lexington last season) Just going to the cages every day with my hitting coach in Lexington really helped me. We did a bunch of different drills hitting of the tee and front toss. I continued to work hard every day and it was a good year... (On bouncing back after tough first two seasons in system)... The first two seasons in the organization was very hard for me. I never saw pitchers throw m.p.h. It took me about a season to get adjusted to that kind of pitching. Last year, I was able to see the pitches better and it was great. It s important to make adjustments and I was late at the plate when I first started and worked on my timing and now I feel comfortable... (On going through a transition on defense)...before I was signed, I played shortstop. After my first practice, the coaches moved me to third base. I played shortstop for five years before joining the Royals. I miss it sometimes. I played it since I was five years old. At third base, the reaction time is the biggest difference from the two positions. It takes a lot of practice to get better with my reaction... (On coming to the U.S)...I came to the U.S. four years ago and the biggest difference was the language. I try to speak English the best I can. My family and friends are still in Puerto Rico and were effected by Hurricane Irma. They had no lights, no gas, no power for months. It was bad. I ve talked to my friends and family and they were telling me how bad it was. It s getting better now, but where I grew up, it was hit by the storm. My family still lives in the house I grew up and it was damaged. #15 Vance Vizcaino OF Ht: 6 1 Wt: 200 Age: 23 B/T: L/R Lives: Wake Forest, N.C.
