Chicago has dropped its last four home games following a nine-game home winning streak it marks the Cubs first four-game skid at Wrigley Field since June 7-10 of this season. Overall, Chicago is 2-6 in its last eight games following a season-high tying sixgame winning streak from August 28-September 2. SHOPPING AT THE LEFTORIUM: The Cubs will roll out three left-handed starters in this Mets series, the first time since 2014 in which Chicago has utilized lefty starting pitchers in three-straight games that season, Felix Doubront, Tsuyoshi Wada and Travis Wood turned the trick twice. In fact, the Cubs have used left-handed starting pitchers in three-straight games just three times in the last 30 seasons besides the two instances in 2014, Rich Hill, Sean Marshall and Ted Lilly did so from August 17-20, 2007 thanks to Ed Hartig for his research assistance. QUINTANA ON THE HILL: José Quintana tonight makes his 11th start for Chicago since he was acquired from the White Sox, July 13 he s allowed three or fewer earned runs in eight of his 10 starts, including each of his last two outings he is 5-2 with a 2.63 ERA (14 ER/48.0 IP) in those eight outings in which he s allowed three or fewer earned runs. RUMINATIONS ON RUNS SCORED: Starting August 1, the Cubs have averaged 5.7 runs per game (223 runs in 39 games), one run better than the team s 4.7 runs per contest in the first four months (484 runs in 104 games). The Cubs have scored 707 runs this season, fourth-most in the N.L. behind Washington (748 runs), Colorado (738 runs) and Arizona (714). Chicago leads the N.L. and rank second in the majors with a +71 run differential since the Break, trailing only Cleveland (+144). However, the Cubs have scored four runs in their last four home games after averaging 7.6 runs in the previous 13 home games from August 14-Sept. 2 (99 runs total). Chicago has been held to three or fewer runs in seven of its last eight games since Sept. 3, the lone exception coming in an 8-2 win at Pittsburgh Thursday night. STARTING STUFF: Cubs starting pitchers have a 3.38 ERA (118 ER/314.1 IP) and have gone in 55 games since the All-Star Break the 27 victories are tied for second-most among major league starting rotations with Washington (Cleveland leads, 34) while the 3.38 ERA is third behind only Cleveland (2.86) and Washington (3.02).
