Los Angeles, which opened the trip by taking two of three games at Philadelphia, is in second place in the NL West, 0.5 games behind the Giants, but is still atop the Wild Card standings, 2.0 games ahead of the Cardinals. Following tomorrow s getaway-day matinee against the Reds, the Dodgers return home for a crucial six-game homestand with three games each against the Giants and the Cubs. Los Angeles has the second-best record in day games in the Majors this year at (.656), behind only the Cubs.661 mark (37-19), and has averaged better than a run per game more during the day (5.22 R/G) vs. night games (4.20 R/G). POWING UP: Los Angeles continues to top the National League with a.459 slugging percentage in 31 games since the All- Star break, while ranking among the league leaders in team batting average (.273, 3 rd ) and runs per game (5.26, 163 R). SEEING RED: This weekend marks a homecoming for Dodgers Quality Assurance Coach Juan Castro, who spent eight of his 17 big-league seasons with the Reds from and In addition to Castro, Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner have ties to the Cincinnati organization, both being selected by the Reds in the draft before making their MLB debuts elsewhere. Grandal was taken by the Reds with the 12 th overall pick in the 2010 draft before being traded to San Diego after the 2011 season and Turner was picked by Cincinnati in the seventh round of the 2006 draft and subsequently traded to the Orioles in Dec Grandal has already established a career high with 20 home runs and is tied with Jonathan Lucroy for the most home runs by a catcher this year. Grandal is the first Dodger catcher since Paul Lo Duca (25) in 2001 to post a 20-homer season and just the fifth catcher in Los Angeles history to accomplish the feat, joining Mike Piazza (5: ), Joe Ferguson (2: 1973, 79), Todd Hundley (2: 1999, 2000) and Lo Duca. Since June 30, Grandal is tied for the NL home run lead (14) along with San Diego s Ryan Schimpf and continues to lead the Majors with a.701 slugging pct. (min. 100 AB) in 36 games in that span. Turner leads the Dodgers in home runs (23, T-14 th NL) and RBI (72, T-13 th NL), which both are already careerbest marks. Turner has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games since July 30, batting.324 (22-for-68) with nine doubles, a triple, five homers and 13 RBI in that span. After a slow start to the season, he has posted a OPS the sixthbest mark in the Majors in his last 58 games since June 10, while leading the NL in home runs (19), RBI (52) and slugging percentage (.670) in that span. Turner ranks 10 th in the NL with a.325 batting average since June 10 (75- for-231), including a.385 mark with runners in scoring position (20-for-52). GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: The Dodgers have been one of the Majors best fielding teams this year, ranking third in fielding percentage (.988) and committing the third-fewest errors of any team (55), behind only the Astros (52) and Nationals (51). By defensive efficiency, which measures turning balls in play into outs, the Dodgers rank second in the National League, trailing only the Cubs, with a 70.5% efficiency rating according to Baseball- Reference.com. In his last 45 games since June 27, González is hitting.354 (58-for-164), the fourth-best mark in the NL in that span, with a.422 on-base percentage (5 th, NL) and a.549 slugging percentage (14 th, NL). His 19-game streak from June 16-July 6 remains tied for the longest run of the year by a National Leaguer along with Carlos Gonzalez and Ender Inciarte. Seager continues to rank among the NL s overall leaders in runs (80, T-5 th ), hits (149, 4 th ), doubles (34, 3 rd ), total bases (252, 3 rd ), batting average (.314, 9 th ) and slugging percentage (.532, 13 th ). Seager still sits one home run shy of the single-season franchise mark for homers by a shortstop, currently held by Glenn Wright, who belted 22 in Seager s 182 hits through the first 145 games of his career are the most by a Los Angeles Dodger and rank as the second most in franchise history since 1913, behind only Johnny Frederick (201, 1929).
