RHP Lucas Giolito, who worked 7.0 scoreless IP in his last start on 8/27 vs. Detroit, takes the mound for the White Sox. Following this afternoon's fi nale vs. the Rays, the Sox will continue the 10-game homestand with four games vs. Cleveland (9/4-7) and three vs. San Francisco (9/8-10). Chicago was swept in its brief trip at Minnesota this week, including a 5-4, walkoff defeat in Thursday's fi nale. The White Sox went 5-3 on their last homestand vs. Minnesota (3-2) and Detroit (2-1) from 8/ TODAY'S STORYLINES The White Sox have won fi ve of their last seven games, and 10 of 16, at Guaranteed Rate Field they are looking to clinch their third consecutive home series win. The Sox are trying to avoid their third season-series loss to Tampa Bay since 2013, and sixth all-time. Chicago relievers own a 1.88 ERA (5 ER/24.0 IP) and.169 opponents average (14-83) over the last eight home games. Avisaíl García is hitting.444 (16-36) with one double, one triple, one homer, four RBI and a OPS during his 10-game hitting streak, one shy of his career high (11 twice). Yolmer Sánchez is (.457) with three homers, eight RBI, a OPS and six multihit efforts in his last nine contests. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Juan Minaya struck out Logan Morrison with the tying run at second base in the ninth inning to close out Chicago's 5-4 win. The White Sox led 5-3 entering the ninth before the Rays loaded the bases with nobody out Minaya induced a run-scoring double play by Evan Longoria before striking out Morrison. The Sox matched their season high with four HRs (third time), including back-to-back shots by Alen Hanson (No. 4) and Yolmer Sánchez (No. 9) to lead off the fi rst Avisaíl García added a two-run shot in the seventh, extending his hitting streak to 10. Carlos Rodón (1 ER/4.0 IP) received a ND, and left the game following the rain delay Carson Fulmer (1 ER/2.0 IP) earned his fi rst MLB win, and Juan Minaya recorded his fourth save. José Abreu missed his third straight game (right elbow). The game was delayed by rain in the fourth for 1:18. STRONG TABLE SETTERS Alen Hanson and Yolmer Sánchez last night opened the White Sox half of the fi rst inning with solo home runs off Chris Archer. It marked the third time in franchise history the Sox hit backto-back home runs to open the fi rst: 7/4/00 at Kansas City (Ray Durham and Jose Valentin) and 9/2/37 vs. Boston (Boze Berger and Mike Kreevich) source: STATS LLC. THE STRIKEOUT KING? Class AA Birmingham RHP Alec Hansen received a no decision last night vs. Mississippi in his fi nal start of the season he allowed two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts over 5.1 IP. Hansen's nine strikeouts brought his season total to 191, the most in the minor leagues this season. Lynchburg's Triston McKenzie (186) and Midland's A.J. Puk (184), who rank second and third respectively, are not scheduled to pitch again during the regular season. The last White Sox farmhand to lead the minors in strikeouts was LHP Gio González in 2007 (185). THREE HITS HOORAY! Avisaíl García last night recorded his 16th three-hit game of the season, and fi fth in his last 19 contests since 8/10. He is on pace for 19 three-hit games, which would mark the most by a White Sox since Magglio Ordoñez in 2002 (20). García is batting.451/.500/.577 (32-71) with four doubles, one homer, nine RBI and 10 multihit efforts in his last 19 games. NO SHORTAGE OF PUNCHOUTS White Sox relievers rank seventh in the American League with 443 strikeouts this season, and are on pace for a club-record 535. The 443 strikeouts in 2017 are the third-most by a Sox bullpen, trailing the relievers in 2011 (479) and 2010 (444). QUALITY AND QUANTITY The White Sox have made 19 quality starts in their last 34 games dating back to 7/29 by comparison, the Sox made 12 quality starts in 58 games from 5/22-7/28. Chicago is when receiving a QS this season. Since 2003, the White Sox have recorded 1,302 quality starts, the second-most in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,303). The White Sox are batting.248/.291/.448 with nine homers, own a 3.77 ERA (18 ER/43.0 IP) and have been outscored, Sox starters own a 3.16 ERA (26 ER/74.0 IP) with seven quality starts and a.229 opp. average in the last 12 games. NO REST FOR THE WEARY The White Sox are currently in a stretch where they fi nish the regular season playing 33 games in 34 days from 8/29-10/1. The Sox only remaining off day is on 9/18 in Houston. A breakdown of Chicago's 28 remaining games this season: Fifteen at Guaranteed Rate Field and 13 on the road. PITO POWER According to STATS LLC, José Abreu is the fi rst player in White Sox history to begin his major-league career with fourplus consecutive 25-homer seasons, and the 10th in majorleague history to accomplish the feat (see list at right). Abreu needs 22 RBI to become the third player ever to begin his career with four straight seasons of at least 25 HR/100 RBI, joining Joe DiMaggio ( ) and Albert Pujols ( ). Abreu is on pace to record career highs in extra-base hits (80), total bases (336) and hits (189), while his 36 doubles are a career-high the 80 extra-base hits and 336 total bases both would be the fourth-highest totals in franchise history. LONGBALL LOGISTICS Chicago has hit 152 home runs and is on pace to fi nish with 184, which would mark its highest total since 2012 (211). Matt Davidson ranks second on the Sox with 23 home runs. He is tied with Josh Fields (2007) and Bill Melton (1969) for the fourth-highest total by a Sox rookie, trailing José Abreu (36, 2014), Ron Kittle (35, 1983) and Zeke Bonura (27, 1934). Davidson (23), Tim Anderson (14), Avisaíl García (14), Leury García (nine) and Yolmer Sánchez (nine) all have set career highs in home runs this season. POWERFUL PROSPECT PIPELINE Since December 2016, Chicago has traded Melky Cabrera, Adam Eaton, Todd Frazier, Miguel González, Dan Jennings, Tommy Kahnle, José Quintana, David Robertson, Chris Sale and Anthony Swarzak to acquire 20 players.
