1 Trenton Thunder (Yankees) vs. Bowie Baysox (Orioles) RHP Jairo Heredia (2-0, 2.97) vs. RHP Zach Davies (1-4, 6.26) Monday, June 16, :05 PM Game 71 of 142 ARM & HAMMER Park Trenton, NJ Radio: 91.3 FM (WTSR) Adam Giardino LAST GAME: NEW BRITAIN, CT A complete-game effort by New Britain Rock Cats starting pitcher Taylor Rogers shut down the Trenton Thunder in a sweeping 6-2 loss Sunday afternoon. Before a Father s Day crowd of 5,075 at New Britain Stadium, the Thunder mounted one productive inning against Rogers, but he was effective and efficient throughout. Thunder starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell allowed a solo home run to Kennys Vargas in the 4th inning to put the Thunder down 1-0, but Trenton s offense responded in the 5th inning. Tyler Austin singled with one out and was followed two batters later by Tyson Blaser s two out single to put runners at first and second base for Ali Castillo. The Thunder s right-handed shortstop laced a line-drive single up the rightcenterfield gap past the centerfielder Eddie Rosario to score both runners. Those would be the only two runs the Thunder managed against Rogers who needed just 106 pitches to go the distance. He allowed six hits and no walks while striking out two batters including Peter O Brien to end the ballgame. Mitchell drops his record to 1-5 with the loss, as he allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings. He had allowed just three baserunners through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth and being removed with the bases-loaded and one out. Phil Wetherell entered and allowed two inherited runners to score when Mike Kvasnicka stroked a tworun single to right field.
