T I G ERS BOYSBASEBA LL NEWS 8th Grade Friday, 05/05, toting a 4-0 record, your 8 th grade Tiger baseball squad headed south to Hastings for a heated match-up against a 3 1 St. Elizabeth (SEAS) team. After waiting 15 minutes for an umpire to show, a selfless SEAS fan volunteered to take the job. With the wait, the Tigers took a bit to find their groove. Scoring only once in the first, Noah Reardon crossed the plate on a Charlie Rieser single. Noah then took the mound and was touched for a pair of SEAS runs. Trailing for only the second time this season, the Tigers bats caught fire in the second and third. Luke Burney started a mini-rally with an RBI single in the second and scored on a Noah Reardon double. Taking the lead 3 2, Noah struck out the side in the bottom of the second. The Tigers crowded the base paths in the third with six straight hits, scoring seven runs and taking a 10 2 lead that they would never surrender. Reardon s final stats on the hill: 4 runs on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts in four innings. Jackson Giel mopped up the final inning, setting the SEAS team down in order. Final score Returning for a three-game homestand, on Wednesday, 05/10, the Tigers hosted Mounds Park Academy at East Twins. Noah Reardon, the day s scheduled starter, fell ill and was unable to pitch. Enter Jacob Esboldt. On short notice, Jacob was as sharp as one could hope. Striking out 5 and only allowing one unearned run in his 3 innings of work, Jacob held the MPA bats in check with some help from a great catch by his battery-mate Charlie Rieser and a slick scoop by first-baseman Henry Votel. Once again, the Tiger offense was unstoppable. Leadoff man Jonah Scheierl sparked the team with a hard liner to right. Taking their cue, the rest of the Tigers made it look like batting practice as they plated 12 runs in the first two innings. Jonah Scheierl, Max Yanz, Alex Johnson (with a triple) and Jacob Esboldt (with a double) each scored twice and Nick Erickson had an RBI double while Jackson Preiner added an RBI single of his own. Leading 12 1 after two, the Tigers coasted the remaining three innings. Jackson Giel took over on the mound late in the game and tossed a scoreless fifth to lift the Tigers to a 19 5 victory, and a 6 0 record. The final week of the 2017 campaign for your 8 th grade Tiger baseball team proved to be its most challenging. With a 6 0 record, last Thursday the Tigers hosted a tough St. Pat s of Hudson team that brought with them an undefeated record as well. Playing at LaPlante field for the first time this season, the Tigers hoped to secure solo first place in their division by sending Max Yanz to the mound. Max looked sharp as he retired the first six batters. His St. Pat s counterpart set the Tigers down in order in the first, foreshadowing the pitcher s duel to follow. Battling his way on base, Jacob Esboldt led off the second inning with a ten-pitch walk. Hoping to capitalize on the RBI opportunity, Nick Erickson stepped to the plate. Nick took no time changing the scoreboard as he smashed a first-pitch fastball to deep left. The St. Pat s left fielder helplessly looked up as the ball travelled over his head and over the recently-erected outfield fence for the Tiger s first round-tripper of the season. With the momentum in their favor, the top of the Tiger s order, Noah Reardon, Max Yanz and Alex Johnson each scored in third and fourth inning rallies, the latter started by a Henry Votel single. With a 10 1 lead, Max Yanz was as sharp as a scimitar on the hill, going the distance against his hard-hitting foes. His totals for the day 6 innings, 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 11 strikeouts. Final score The next day, your Tigers were home again, matched up against SPA. Showing up on their own team bus, but with only 8 players, SPA proved no match for the pitching stylings of Noah Reardon. The crafty lefty stymied the SPA bats throughout his five-inning shut-out. Facing a total of three batters over the minimum, Noah surrendered only one hit and one walk while fanning 8, in a game that lasted only an hour and twenty minutes. The Tigers used what little time they had to score five runs early, led by RBI singles by Alex Johnson, Jacob Esboldt and Nick Erickson. Henry Votel also singled and scored. The Tigers rallied in the 4 th with doubles by Max Yanz and Charlie Rieser and singles by Nick Erickson and Jonah Scheierl. Leading 9 0, the Tigers were able to ten-run SPA in the fifth with Jackson Giel scoring on a fielder s choice by Luke Burney. Final score (Continued on Page 3 )

Many Girls had doubles, triples, or even home runs; Alexa, Lily, Elise, Molly. Wednesday 5/10, we won against St. Charles Borromeo The girls really worked together as a team, fantastic pitching by Matty Kopp. St. Charles was a very competitive team, all of our girls worked together and supported each other! At this point in the CAA season, we are 4-1, we have 3-4 (rain games) to be rescheduled. In the last game of the regular season we were playing SPA for a second time. The Lady Tigers were leading 3-0 after an inning and a half. The other coach saw some lighting and asked for the game to be called. The ump agreed. Hoping to finish their schedule undefeated, the Tigers once again sent Max Yanz to the hill. Max was able to help his own cause in the first by plating Noah Reardon on a majestic RBI triple to left, then scoring on an Alex Johnson fielder s choice. Coming off his brilliant performance against St. Pat s the previous week, Max struggled to find the strike zone. Although he walked 7 COS batters, Max was able to grind out his five innings of work while allowing only 3 runs on two hits and striking out 9. The COS pitchers gave the Tiger hitters fits early, as the Tigers led only 2 1 into the fourth, when Charlie Rieser and Jackson Giel each scored to raise the lead to 4 1. Leading off the fifth, Alex Johnson helped stretch the Tiger lead with a gargantuan blast to right center. With no fence to stop the gapper, Alex raced around the bases and was waved home ahead of the COS throw for the Tiger s second home run of the season. Nick Erickson and Jonah Scheierl also scored on RBI singles by Jackson Preiner and Henry Votel. The Tigers added two insurance runs in the sixth and Jacob Esboldt struck out two in his inning of work to close out the Tiger s road victory by a score of 9 5. Athletic Director Be aware that coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers need to be current with the VIRTUS training. A couple of things to be watching for and putting on your calendar. With all the rain outs there have already been many games both baseball & softball that are getting rescheduled. Coaches will try to keep everyone up to date. They can stay on top of it better than me. The Playoffs for the CAA begins on 05/23/17. Should learn in a couple of days which teams Athletic Sports Banquet, will be held June 01. We have been seeing around 100 people attend, both students and adults. We hold it in our own gym, so there is room for more. The sign up form appears in this newsletter. The flyers for the Summer camps; Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer are attached to this newsletter. FYI - a flyer from Cretin Derham Hall High School was sent to me regarding Summer Softball Camps. The Head Softball coach at CDH is running two camps this summer. June and July The sessions are for students grade 3 thru 9. If interested let me know and I can send a flyer home. There are also a few flyers on the counter in the school lobby.

5 WAA NFL Youth Flag Football Fall 2017 Boys & Girls 1 st - 8 th Grade WAA NFL Flag Football offers kids a great opportunity to wear NFL gear, improve your game, stay active and have fun. This is a Non-Contact Co-ed Flag Football league. We highly encourage girls and boys to play in this league. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve your passing, catching, and defensive skills in a fun game setting. Minimal Time Commitment Between two or three football events a week. Typically, one practice per week and one or two games on Saturday afternoons. All WAA Flag Football Coaches are Trusted Coaches Certified to work with youth players. Take advantage of Early Bird Registration (April 24 th - May 30 th ) and save a few dollars. 1 st - 8 th Grade Co-ed Flag Football! Four grade divisions: 1 st -2 nd Grade, 3 rd Grade, 4 th -5 th Grade, and 6 th -8 th Grade. (Based on the grade the player will be entering Fall 2017.) Season: August 13 th October 8 th The season s first game will be played on Saturday, August 19 th and the season will conclude on Sunday, October 8 th. Ten Regular Season Games! Each team will be scheduled for a minimum of 10 regular season games. WAA NFL Flag Football Tournament: October 7 th - 8 th. Registration: Please go to to register. Early Bird Registration: April 24 th May 30 th Regular Season Registration: June 1 st - July 31 st Waiting List: Players will be placed on a waiting list if registered after July 31 st and may not be placed on a team.
