Biloxi will counter with RHP Luis Ortiz (3-5). LAST GAME: In game five of the series, Pensacola didn t wait until the ninth to take the lead and win the game. Behind the hitting of Josh VanMeter and Shed Long, each with a home run in the second inning, the Blue Wahoos took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Braves 5-2 and won the series three games to two. MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Pitcher Wes Parsons, 24, made two starts during the week and posted a 0.75 ERA. He held opponents to one earned run on seven hits, two walks and 12 strikeouts in 12 innings of work. Parsons was named Braves organizational pitcher of the month in May at Double-A Mississippi, appearing in five games (two spot-starts) and recording a 1.69 ERA. He has split time between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi this season. Parsons is 1-2 with two saves and a 2.93 ERA in 17 games with the M-Braves this season. With the G-Braves, he had an 8.64 ERA in four outings, one start. A native of Clarksville, TN, Parsons was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 30, MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SS Dylan Moore, 24, played in six games during the week and posted a.412 batting average. He went 7-for-17 with a double, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base. In 79 games with the Double-A Braves this season, Moore has a.171 average with nine doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI. He s hitting.302 in 13 games during the month of July. The California native was acquired by the Braves from the Texas Rangers as part of a three-team trade on August 24, Moore was originally selected by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Central Florida. BRAVES ORGANIZATIONAL PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE MONTH: The Atlanta Braves announced the minor league pitchers and players of the month for June. For the Double-A Mississippi club, RHP Mike Soroka and OF Jared James were selected for the monthly accolades. Soroka, 19, posted a record of 3-1 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts during the month of June. The young righty was selected as a 2017 Southern League All-Star and was named to the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The Canadian was selected by the Braves in the first round (28th overall) of the 2015 draft. James, 23, hit.333 with five doubles, a triple and seven RBI during the month of June. He s hitting.256 with nine doubles, four triples, two home runs and 19 RBI in 71 games with the Double-A Braves this season. The California native was selected by the Braves in the 34th round of the 2016 draft out of Long Beach State. THIS DATE IN BRAVES HISTORY: The game against the Cardinals is delayed for an hour after a fire breaks out in the skybox/press box area of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Recently acquired Fred McGriff pinch-hits a homer, enabling the Braves to rally from a 5-0 deficit to win 7-5, and appears to ignite the beginning of the team s historic comeback from a 9 1/2 games deficit to win the National League West Division. Weekday games will begin at 7:00 PM and Saturday s game is at 6:00 PM. The two teams have already played 10 times with the Braves trailing 4-6 after winning 3-2 at home, but losing the final four on the road. In the Hole Following the 10-Game/11 Day Home Stand, the MBraves will board a bus to Mobile to take on the BayBears in a 6 game series at Hank Aaron Stadium from July 30-August 3. He looks to continue that tonight as the MBraves look for their first win at home since the All-Star Break. This season against the Shuckers, Soroka has a 2-0 record with a 0.64 ERA allowing only one run while scattering 12 hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. LAST TIME OUT Mike Soroka was outstanding for the Braves, shutting out Pensacola for seven innings. He struck out six while surrendering just four hits to pick up his 10th win of the season.
