1 BALTIMORE ORIOLES GAME NOTES Oriole Park at Camden Yards 333 West Camden Street Baltimore, MD Sunday, April 24, 2016 Game #17 Road Game #9 Baltimore Orioles (11-5) at Kansas City Royals (11-6) RHP Mike Wright (1-1, 5.73) vs. RHP Yordano Ventura (1-0, 2.81) STARTIN STRONG: 3B Manny Machado went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI on Saturday, extending his hitting streak to a career high 16 games (.397, 27-for-68)...He became the first Oriole to hit safely in the club s first 16 games of a season and the second Oriole to begin a season with a 16-game hitting streak (also Davey Johnson, 17 games, 1971) Machado owns the longest active hitting streak in the majors. EXTRA, EXTRA: With an RBI double on Saturday, 3B Manny Machado has recorded an extra-base hit in a career-high seven straight games (five doubles, three home runs) It marks the longest such streak by an Orioles player since 1B Chris Davis in 2013 (seven games) Machado has also recorded an RBI in a career-high six games, the longest active streak in the majors. IRON MANNY: 3B Manny Machado is the current active Major League leader in consecutive games started at 178 games...according to STATS, LLC., Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays ranks second at 120 consecutive games started Machado played in all 162 regular season games last season, the only player to accomplish the feat in majors...he became the first Oriole to do so since Adam Jones in 2012 and is the ninth Oriole (since 1954) to accomplish the feat Machado is also the active leader in consecutive games played (178). STRIKE EM OUT: RHP Mychal Givens has collected at least one strikeout in eight of his nine appearances this season (16 K/9.0 IP), including six multi-strikeout appearances He ranks tied for third among all Major League relievers (second in the American League) with 16 strikeouts this season In 31 career Major League games since making his debut on June 24, 2015 at Boston, Givens has posted a strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio, which ranks fifth among American League relievers in that span (min. 30 games). RATED ROOKIE: OF Joey Rickard went 3-for-5 on Thursday and scored two runs in the 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays...Rickard also went 3-for-5 on Wednesday...According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Rickard became the third Orioles rookie in the last 20 seasons with at least three hits in two consecutive games...nick Markakis did so in June/July 2006 and Matt Wieters did so in September Houston's Tyler White is the only other rookie with at least three hits in back-to-back games this season...rickard has hit safely in 14 of 16 games played this season (.319, 22-for-69) The Orioles are 7-0 this season when Rickard scores at least one run. WALK THIS WAY: 1B Chris Davis walked a career-high four times on Thursday...He is the first Oriole to draw at least four walks in a game since Matt Wieters did so on October 3, 2015 (G1) against the Yankees...Davis is tied for third in the majors with 15 walks this season.
