RHP Jon Gray (0-0, -.--) vs. LHP Patrick Corbin (0-0, -.--) TV: AT&T SportsNet Radio: KOA NewsRadio THE BEGINNING OF TIME The Rockies will begin their 26th Major League season today in the first game of a three-game series at Arizona Colorado last faced the Diamondbacks at Chase Field when they fell 11-8 in the National League Wild Card Game on Oct. 4, The Rockies are on Opening Day, including a record of 10-8 while opening on the road they have won three consecutive Opening Day games, tied for the longest streak in franchise history (also: ) the Rockies have opened their season on the road every season since 2011, when they hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 1. This is the eighth time that Colorado has faced Arizona on Opening Day, the fifth time they have done so in Phoenix are 4-3 all-time against the Diamondbacks on Opening Day, including a 3-1 record in Phoenix. WOLF AT THE DOOR Jon Gray will be making his second consecutive Opening Day start for Colorado pitched in Milwaukee on Opening Day last season and allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in four innings of work in the 7-5 Rockies win. SPRING IN HIS STEP Mike Tauchman was presented with the Abby Greer Award on March 25, given to the Rockies Spring Training Most Valuable Player in 28 Spring games, Tauchman batted.333 (20-for-60) with nine runs scored, three doubles, four triples, one home run, five RBI, six walks and three stolen bases. FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME Ryan McMahon, Mike Tauchman and Pat Valaika are on an Opening Day roster for the first time according to the Elias Sports Bureau, which considers players on the active roster only, a total of three Rockies players are on an Opening Day roster for the first time officially, the fewest since DISABLED LIST The club placed the following three players on the 10-day DL, retroactive to Monday, March 26: Carlos Estévez (left oblique strain), Jeff Hoffman (right shoulder inflammation) and Zac Rosscup (left middle finger blister). NEW FACES AND OLD FRIENDS The Rockies signed five free agents to Major League contracts in the offseason Chris Iannetta was signed to a two-year contract on Dec. 8, his second stint with Colorado Bryan Shaw was signed to a three-year contract and Jake McGee was re-signed to a three-year contract on Dec. 15 Wade Davis was signed to a three-year contract on Dec. 29 Carlos Gonzàlez was re-signed to a one-year contract on March 12. Acquired: Selected in First Round (3rd) of 2013 Draft OPENING DAY IS GRAY DAY Colorado s 2013 first-round pick (third overall) out of the University of Oklahoma will make his second career and second consecutive Opening Day start he joins Kevin Ritz ( ), Darryl Kile ( ), Mike Hampton ( ) and Ubaldo Jimenez ( ) as the only Rockies starting pitchers to make consecutive Opening Day starts Jason Jennings (2003, 2006), Aaron Cook (2007, 2009) and Jorge De la Rosa (2014, 2016) all made two Opening Day starts but not in consecutive years. Started Opening Day at Milwaukee in 2017 pitched four innings and allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in the 7-5 Rockies win pitched four scoreless innings before allowing five runs in the fifth inning without recording an out. REVENGE Last started against Arizona in the 2017 National League Wild Card Game took the loss after pitching a career-low 1.1 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
