1 Our Second Newsletter of Season!!! Greetings esteemed alumni, colleagues, students and baseball fans! It s our pleasure to welcome you to another season of the official Pasco Baseball Newsletter. This is our second newsletter and the first for the New Year. There are only forty-one more days until the season opens (but who is counting). Once again we will be offering four issues (Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr, and May/June). There are a lot of great things this year to build the program so hopefully you can make it out to some games as well as events during the spring and summer season. What is The Process Well, the process is really what you have to do day in and day out to be successful. Nick Saban (University of Alabama Head Football Coach) What Saban is interested in, is what he refers to as Process. Instead of asking his players to focus on winning the championship or the next big game, he asks them to focus on what the next action is. The next drill. The next play. The next touchdown. To Saban, it s not the outcome that s important, but the process. In his own words: Jan/Feb Issue Volume 3, Issue 2 Note: The Bulldog Baseball Program will be bringing back their Bulldog Baseball Clinic this year. This will be a two day clinic for kids in grades 1-8 taking place on April 4 th and 5 th. More details will be in the next issue Season Motto: Process over Outcome We try to define the standard that we want everybody to sort of work toward, adhere to, and do it on a consistent basis. And the things that I talked about before, being responsible for your own self-determination, having a positive attitude, having great work ethic, having discipline to be able to execute on a consistent basis, whatever it is you re trying to do, those are the things that we try to focus on, and we don t try to focus as much on the outcomes as we do on being all that you can be.
2 2 Meet the Players: Tyler Short Name: Tyler Short Year: Senior Position: Utility Parents: Brian and Lorrie Short Plans after High School: Fight wildfires in the summer and then become a fire fighter. Goals for this Season: -Continue to be a team player -Motivate my teammates -Earn more wins Coach s Comment: The coaching staff expects great things from Tyler this year. He is constantly motivating his teammates to do better. He brings a great attitude every day to the baseball field and does everything he is coached to do and does it 100mph. He improved greatly during the summer season which will pay off his senior year. -Coach Hockaday 2016 Pasco High Baseball Varsity Schedule WED 3/16 Motto for the 2016 Season vs. University HS (DH) Stadium FRI 3/18 vs. Post Falls (1gm) 2pm SAT 3/19 vs. Capital (1gm) 3pm THUR 3/22 vs. Post Falls (1gm) 6pm SAT West Valley Spokane (1gm) 12pm FRI 4/1 vs. Richland (DH) 4pm TUES 4/12 vs. Kamiakin (DH) 4pm FRI Southridge (DH) 4pm TUES 4/19 vs. Kennewick (DH) 4pm FRI Hanford (DH) 4pm TUES 4/26 vs. Walla Walla (DH) 4pm FRI Chiawana (1gm) 4pm SAT Chiawana (1gm) GESA Stadium
3 Winter Baseball Training Has Started 3 If you are planning on participating in baseball for the upcoming season (and are not in a winter sport) you should be in the weight room after school. Coaches are giving players every opportunity to get better so if you are not getting prepared for the upcoming season with weights and hitting then there will be no one to blame but yourself if you perform poorly. Pasco Sun Devils Summer Baseball Team Pasco Sun Devils summer baseball program is looking forward to the upcoming 2016 summer season. The program is looking to build off the success both the Single A and Double A teams had. The Double A squad (grades 10-11) went during the summer just missing out on the post-season by one game. While the single A (grades 8-9) made it to the state tournament. Tryouts will be held on Sunday, March 13 th and Sunday, March 20 th for both AA and A at a site and time to be determined with practices starting at the conclusion of the high school season and games starting Memorial Day weekend. If you are serious about wanting to play baseball then you are encouraged to tryout. Winter Hitting in Inflatable Batting Cages Winter hitting has begun. If you have not been getting in swings during the winter you are already behind for the season. It is a must to get in and get prepared for the season. A handful of dedicated players have already got in about 1,000 swings. What have you been doing to get better?
4 4 New for the Season: Hudl Video Hudl is a video software program the athletic department which we will be implementing this year. It will allow coaches to video your son to provide performance feedback. Coach Hockaday is also planning to open its use to parents as well so they can upload their own game or practice video to allow the boys to see their swings, pitches or fieldwork. Information about this program will be given out when the season begins. Clothing Fundraiser The Bulldog Baseball Program is having their annual clothing fundraiser. There is a lot of good stuff in this year s catalog. This is a onetime order. Orders will be placed at the end of January and items will arrive about three weeks later. If you are interested see any baseball player or contact Coach Hockaday.
