Austin Yount earned the victory, while David Stringer picked up the save. Joey August (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) was the offensive star for the Cardinal. Current Game Win Streak: Stanford 1 (February 20, 2007) Current Series Win Streak: Stanford 7 (February 8, 1975 January 27-28, 1984) Current Season Series Win Streak: Stanford 1 (2007) Series Notes: Stanford has won 11 of the last 14 games between the clubs but San Francisco has surprised Stanford three times this decade with victories at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The last win by the Dons over the Cardinal was a 9-4 USF victory on April 17, The Dons were also winners at Stanford on April 1, 2003 (9-5) and April 17, In addition, the teams will play a game at San Francisco later this season on May 6. Stanford has not played a road game at San Francisco since winning, 8-6, on May 9, NOTES Stanford Still Tied For First Place In Pac-10 - Stanford remained tied for first place in the Pac-10 along with Arizona State when both teams won two-of-three games in road series April The Cardinal took two-of-three against two-time defending CWS champion Oregon State, while the Sun Devils won two-of-three at Washington State. California dropped one game behind the leaders and now has a 5-4 conference mark after dropping two-ofthree at USC. The Trojans are now 6-6 in league play and one of three teams along with Washington (3-3) and UCLA (3-3) that are tied for fourth just one and a half games back of Stanford and Arizona State. Oregon State (4-5) is seventh followed by Washington State (3-6) and Arizona (3-6) tied for eighth. Stanford Stays In Top 10 - Stanford remained ranked No. 10 in the latest Baseball America poll released on Monday, April 14. In the other polls, Stanford dropped one spot but is still ranked No. 9 nationally by Rivals.com, moved up three spots to No. 14 in the Collegiate Baseball rankings, drops one spot to No. 16 on the USA Today/ESPN list and takes one step up the ladder to No. 25 in the current NCBWA poll. Series Win Streak At 10 Straight - Stanford extended its string of regular season threegame series victories to 10 dating back to the final three series of 2007 by taking two-of-three at two-time defending national champion Oregon State from April The current streak is Stanford's longest regular season three-game series win streak since the Cardinal won 15 straight regular season three-game series from May 3, 2003 May 4, Three In A Row Overall - Stanford has won three straight games by taking the final two games of its most recent Pac-10 series at Oregon State (April 12-13) and winning a home non-conference game against Santa Clara (April 14). The win streak is just one short of a season-long four-game win streak that came thanks to a victory over Nevada (February 26) and a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton (February 29 - March 2). Stanford Baseball (Champions 2 CWS, 5 Super Regional, 14 Regional, 20 Pac-10) 1

2 Tough Luck In Extra Innings - Stanford has played four extra inning ballgames this season (all over the last nine contests) and is in those four games versus Arizona State (April 4, 6-4 loss in 10 innings), at California (April 7, 5-5 tie in 13 innings), against UC Davis (April 9, 9-8 loss in 12 innings) and at Oregon State (April 11, 10-9 in 10 innings). Stanford had not played an extra inning game prior in 2008 prior to the Arizona State game. Marquess 10th On All-Time NCAA Division I Win List - Mark Marquess ranks 10th on the all-time win list for NCAA Division I coaches with an all-time record of (.665). Marquess' current win total (all at Stanford) also ranks him sixth among active coaches. Stanford Perfect On Several Accounts - Stanford has yet to suffer a loss on the weekend with a perfect 12-0 mark as the Cardinal is 7-0 on Saturdays and 5-0 on Sundays. Stanford has also not lost in a rubber game (6-0) or a three-game series finale (7-0). Rubber Game Record - Stanford has a phenomenal run in series rubber games in The Cardinal has needed to win the rubber game to capture the series in six of its seven series this season and has succeeded on each occasion with a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton from February 29 - March 2 the only exception. Home Advantage - Stanford has had a nice home field advantage at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond throughout the years. The facility has served as a host site for 13 NCAA Regionals, as well as NCAA Super Regionals on five occasions. Stanford has clinched 10 of its 15 trips to the CWS at Sunken Diamond. Stanford has had 43 consecutive winning seasons at home and recorded at least 17 home wins in each of its last 12 campaigns with an amazing (.750) home mark over the last 12-plus seasons. Stanford has never had a losing season at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond in the school's recorded history. The Cardinal is off to a 12-7 start in its first 19 home games of Avoiding Big Losing Streaks - Stanford has not lost more than two consecutive games all season. Busy Schedule - Stanford is 18 games into a stretch where the Cardinal will play 29 contests over a 37-day period from March 21 April 30, plus complete a previously suspended contest from a game at Saint Mary's on March 5 for good measure. Starting Rotation Pitching Well - Stanford's three primary starters have pitched well in Erik Davis (5-1, 4.37, 47.1 IP, 43 SO) struggled early but has been excellent in winning his last four starts, combining for a 4-0 record and a 2.91 ERA with a current stretch of three consecutive complete games and 32 strikeouts in 34.0 innings. Jeffrey Inman (5-0, 1.49, 36.1 IP, 20 SO) has also won four straight starts and given up just two earned runs in those starts over 24.2 frames. Jeremy Bleich (2-2, 1.38, 26.0 IP, 18 SO) equaled his win total in all of 2007 with victories in each of his first two outings of Although Bleich has suffered two losses and a no decision in his last three starts, his ERA has actually gone down 81 points in those three starts as only one of the 12 runs scored against him was earned. Freshmen Making Their Mark - Stanford has had a total of 14 freshmen play over the first 28 games. Zach Jones (.275, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 6 SB) and Jake Schlander (.209, 15 RBI, 2 SB) have made the biggest impact among position players with Jones starting 28 of the team's games and Schlander starting all 30. Although Schlander has struggled offensively, he has made just two errors in the field in 118 defensive chances for a.983 fielding percentage as the team's shortstop. Drew Storen (1-2, 3.16, 3 SV, 25.2 IP, 25 SO) paces the team in both saves and appearances (13). Fifth All-Time Winningest Program - Stanford is the fifth all-time winningest program in college baseball history with a record of (.614) in 4158 games over 115-plus seasons. Stanford has won two College World Series titles in its 15 trips to Omaha and finished second on three other occasions, while winning at least one game in every CWS appearance. The Cardinal has added five NCAA Super Regional titles, 14 NCAA Regional crowns and 20 conference championships. Stringer Nearing All-Time Save List - David Stringer has 10 career saves and is now just one shy of tying Aaron Dorlarque ( ) for 10th place. Significantly Better Pitching And Fielding In Stanford has had much better pitching and fielding numbers in Stanford has recorded a 4.13 ERA that is 1.88 points better than the 6.01 the team recorded as the worst mark in school history in The Cardinal's.976 fielding percentage is 13 points ahead of last year's.963 and only.001 points shy of the school record.977. Sean Ratliff On Wallace Award Watch List - Sean Ratliff is currently on the Wallace Award Watch List for the honor given annually by the College Baseball Foundation to the top college player in the nation. Ratliff is hitting.313 with team-highs of 11 homers and 32 RBI, as well as three stolen bases in his first 30 contests of Day And Night - Stanford has been significantly better this season during the day (14-3-1) than at night (4-8). Better Against The Best - Stanford is against ranked squads (according to Baseball America at the time of the game) and just 10-8 versus teams not in the Baseball America poll at the time of the game. Briefly Back At Home - Stanford is hosting its second of two non-conference contests at home this week against San Francisco tonight before going back out on the road, where Stanford is in a stretch of playing seven of nine games away from Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal will travel to UCLA (Friday-Sunday, April 18-20, 6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PT) and Santa Clara (Monday, April 21, 5 pm, PT) to end the stretch with the Broncos' game being televised live nationally by CBS College Sports. Marquess reached his most recent milestone on April 6, 2008, when he won his 1300th career game (all at Stanford) when the Cardinal defeated top-ranked Arizona State, 10-2, in a rubber game against the top-ranked Sun Devils. Marquess now has a (.665) all-time record in 1965 career games, as well as equally impressive marks in postseason (112-52,.683), NCAA Regional (68-25,.731), NCAA Super Regional (10-4,.714), CWS (34-23,.596) and Pac-10 ( ,.599) action. He is currently ranked sixth among all active NCAA Division I coaches in victories and 10th on the all-time list among Division I coaches. Other recent milestones included win No with a victory over Florida State on February 9, Just over two years later, he picked up win No versus Nevada on February 17, He became the 16th NCAA Division I head baseball coach to win 1200 collegiate games just over another two years after that when the Cardinal defeated California at Sunken Diamond on March 5, He also won his 100th career postseason game in Stanford's NCAA Super Regional clinching victory over Long Beach State (June 7, 2003). The 1969 Stanford graduate has led the Cardinal to two CWS titles and three runner-up showings in five CWS championship appearances, as well as 13 College World Series trips, five NCAA Super Regional titles, 14 NCAA Regional championships and 12 Pac-10 crowns (includes Southern Division and shared titles). Stanford's two CWS championships under Marquess came in back-to-back fashion in 1987 and 1988 as the Cardinal is just one of four teams to have ever won back-toback Division I College World Series titles. The three runner-up showings have all come this decade with the Cardinal taking second in Omaha in 2000, 2001 and Maybe even more amazing, all 13 teams that Marquess has taken to the College World Series have won at least one game. Stanford has qualified for the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship 24 times in the first 31 seasons under Marquess, including a school record run of 13 straight appearances in postseason play from He has been named NCAA Coach of the Year three times and has received Pac-10 or Pac-10 Southern Division Coach of the Year honors on nine occasions, most recently with his Pac-10 selection in The Cardinal has been at.500 or better in 30 of the first 31 campaigns under NCAA DIVISION I BASEBALL ALL-TIME COACHES WIN LIST Coach, Current or Last School (Yr.)
