2 GIANTS STARTING PITCHER PAGE 2 #53 RHP Chris Heston 6-3, 195, April 10, 1988 (27) 6-4 Record, 3.77 ERA 27-year-old right-hander is slated to make his 13th start of the season today...has gone 6-4 with a 3.77 ERA (31er, 74.0ip) in 12 starts since taking the rotation spot of RHP Matt Cain on April 8...the Giants are 8-4 in his starts, winning five of his last six trips to the hill. Tossed the first no-hitter of the 2015 season, the 17th in Giants franchise history and the first by a Giants rookie in 103 years on June 9 at New York-NL in the Giants' 5-0 win... it marked the third time the Mets had been no-hit at home in their franchise history...struck out a career-best 11 batters and allowed three baserunners, all coming via HBP...threw 72 of 110 pitches for strikes in what was the 35th completegame no-hitter by a rookie in major league history. Became the third Giants rookie to throw a no-hitter, joining Jeff Tesreau (Sept. 6, 1912 at Philadelphia) and Christy Mathewson (July 15, 1901 vs. St. Louis)...prior to Heston, the last major league rookie to throw a no-hitter was Boston's Clay Buchholz on Sept. 1, 2007 vs. Baltimore. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that he became the first pitcher since Sandy Koufax in 1965 to strike out the final three batters of a no-hitter. According to Elias, Heston became the first rookie pitcher to strike out more than 10 batters without issuing a walk in a no-hitter...also, no other pitcher in major-league history hit at least three opposing batters while completing a no-no. Became the first Giant to throw a no-hitter in New York since Carl Hubbell did it against the Pirates on May 8, 1929 at the Polo Grounds. Watching from the stands that night of his no-hitter was Brad Thomsen, Heston's baseball coach from Palm Bay West Little League all the way through Bayside High in Brevard County, Florida...it was the first time he'd seen Heston pitch in the big leagues. Heston's hat and a game used ball were sent to Cooperstown. Along with Matt Cain's perfect game in 2012, and Tim Lincecum's no-hitters against the Padres in 2013 and 2014, the Giants became the second team in MLB history to have a no-hitter in four consecutive seasons...the Dodgers did it, each time with Sandy Koufax on the mound. Has gone three straight games without allowing a two-strike hit (0-for-37).
