It was the first time the Hooks endured back-to-back losses in Sadzeck faced the minimum through five, yielding a third-inning lead-off walk to 2B Mott Hyde, who was later erased on a double play. After the twin-killing, Corpus Christi was kept off the base paths until LF Danry Vasquez s one-out single in the sixth. Sadzeck fanned five and walked one over 6 2/3 innings. LHP Brian Holmes struggled out of the gate for the Hooks, laboring through a 28-pitch first inning. With two away in the Riders second, SS Alex Bregman mishandled a ground ball from 2B Luis Mendez to load the bases for Cordell, who delivered his second slam of the season, a no-doubter to left field for a 5-0 Frisco bulge. LHP Michael Freeman, RHP David Paulino and LHP Reymin Guduan dominated in relief for the Hooks. Following a lead-off single in third, Freeman set down the next six men he faced. Paulino entered in the fifth and retired 12 of 13 RoughRiders. Guduan ended the game by striking out two in a shutout ninth. CF Derek Fisher s two-run bomb to center field off Sadzeck in the seventh accounted for Corpus Christi s offensive production. This works out to 10.8 K per 9.0 IP and 4.63 K per BB. RECENT ADDITIONS: OF James Ramsay and LHP Chris Cotton joined the Hooks from Astros camp in Kissimmee, Fla., yesterday. Cotton, 25, went 3-3 with a 2.60 ERA and 9 saves in 48 outings for Lancaster, Corpus Christi and Fresno last season. The Shreveport native permitted an ER just twice in 13 games for the JetHawks to open the season. League lefties hit.158 against him while righties batted at a.237 clip. A 14th-round pick of the Astros in 2013 out of LSU, Cotton was promoted to Corpus Christi on May 21 and allowed 4 ER in first 6 games. He rebounded by posting a 2.45 ERA in next 27 appearances. Texas League left-handed hitters batted.187 against him. Cotton made 2 appearances for Triple-A Fresno, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 1/3 frames. He worked twice in the playoffs (0 R, 1.1 IP) before logging 8 games in the Arizona Fall League (0-1, 1.17 ERA). Ramsay, 24, batted.322 with 88 runs, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs, 64 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 127 games for the JetHawks last year. Ramsay ranked among the California League leaders in hits (2nd), batting average (3rd), on-base percentage (.384, 3rd) and runs scored (4th). He also tied for the league lead with 14 sacrifice bunts, and averaged 6.66 plate appearances per strikeout, the 4th-best ratio in the circuit. A 7th-round pick of the Astros in 2013 out of the University of South Florida, Ramsay hit safely in 20 consecutive games from May 10 to June 1. He batted.402 and reached base at a.425 clip during this streak, which was the longest in the California League in Ramsay was tabbed Cal League Player of the Week May 25- June 1 after batting.531 (17-for-32) with 11 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs in 7 games. Most of this production occurred May 27 at Stockton when he went deep twice en route to a career-high 5-RBI night. The Brandon, FL, native recorded hits in 17 of final 18 regular-season games, batting.413 with 17 runs, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homers and 16 RBIs. Ramsay logged a OPS during this stretch and was named Lancaster Player of the Month for August.
