4 This & That GIRLS NIGHT OUT--Tonight is Kansas City s annual Girls Night Out promotion presented by Kansas City Area Chevy Dealers...hosted by Channel 41 s Christa Dubill, the event is taking place in the Outfield Experience prior to game time...proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association Go Red for Women...the first 10,000 ladies through the gates have received a Ladies Summer Infinity Scarf. GO WEST YOUNG MEN--Tonight kicks off a 3-game series with the Rangers, with Kansas City possessing a 7-3 mark against the A.L. West entering the weekend...last night s defeat dropped the Royals to within its Central Division, with the next intradivision work slated for the stop in Minnesota that begins Monday...once that series with the Twins is completed, Kansas City will not see a Central Division opponent until the Twins visit Kauffman Stadium on July 2 for a 4-gamer, a span of 19 games between intradivision contests...the Royals have a 2-4 mark against the East (all vs. the Yankees)...KC opened this homestand after finishing off its first stretch of Interleague games, going 5-2 with a rainout against N.L. Central opposition...the Royals will resume play against the N.L. next weekend with a 3-game stop in St. Louis and then a 4-game home and home series with the Milwaukee Brewers...KC led all of baseball with a 15-5 Interleague mark last year. MUST SEE TV--Kansas City s overnight mark on FSKC was an 11.5 rating according to Nielsen Research, which was a touch better than the 10.1 that the NBA Championship Finals game between the Cavs and Warriors did in the KC market...the Royals have the #1 overall household rating in Major League Baseball at 12.3 this season, which is a 128% increase over last season s mark...a reminder that tomorrow s game will be on FS 1, a 1:10 start against the Texas Rangers. ALL-STAR STAFFS ANNOUNCED--Major League Baseball yesterday formally announced the staffs for the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, with Kansas City skipper Ned Yost heading up the American League squad...his staff will include managers A.J. Hinch of the Houston Astros and Lloyd McClendon of the Seattle Mariners...Hinch, who is in his first season at the helm of the Astros, will make his All-Star coaching debut, while McClendon was previously a member of Dusty Baker s NL staff at the 2003 All-Star Game in Chicago...Yost s Royals staff pitching coach Dave Eiland, catching coach Pedro Grifol, bullpen coach Doug Henry, third base coach Mike Jirschele, first base coach Rusty Kuntz, hitting coach Dale Sveum and bench coach Don Wakamatsu will also work with the A.L. All-Stars. Adam Nevala, head athletic trainer of the Los Angeles Angels, and Paul Harker, assistant athletic trainer of the Tampa Bay Rays, will round out the A.L. staff...san Francisco manager Bruce Bochy will not only have his Giants staff, but also has invited managers Don Mattingly of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Bryan Price of the host Reds to join his N.L. staff. THIRD MONTH UNDERWAY--The Royals are 1-2 in the early going of the month of June after posting consecutive winning months to start the year...kansas City wrapped up May with a mark, spending 23 days either in first place or tied for the top spot, before relinquishing the position with Sunday s loss in Wrigley Field...the month of May had not been kind to the Royals in this 21st century, as this marks just the second winning May since the 2000 campaign (15-13 in 2012)... last year s eventual American League championship squad went just in May...KC started 2015 with a 15-7 month of April. WINDY CITY MAKE-UPS--The Royals have been postponed twice this year, each have come in the city of Chicago, with the north side joining in last Saturday with a brutal weather day thus forcing the postponement of that nationally televised contest...kc had been popped during what was to be a 4-game visit to the south side on April 25, with that affair slated to be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Friday, July 17, the first day after the All-Star break...as for the postponed game with the Cubbies, the Royals will return to Wrigley Field for a 7:05 affair on Monday, September 28...that rescheduling actually worked out well for Kansas City, who will be playing in Chicago the following three days of that week against the White Sox. STILL HITTING WITH TWO DOWN--The Royals continue to top the big league charts with a.285 mark (164-for-576)...KC is second in the A.L. in two-out hits (164), second in two-out slugging (.429) and second in two-out on-base pct. (.345)...in fact, KC has scored 42% of its runs this season (97-for-231) with two down...individually, Kendrys Morales leads the American League in two-out hitting with a.400 mark and tied for first in two-out doubles (8), tied for second in two-out RBI (20), second in two-out on-base pct. (.481) and third in two-out slugging (.643) and teammate Lorenzo Cain is tied for second in two-out hitting at.393. TOP TWO IN PLUNKINGS MEET--This weekend s combatants, the Rangers and Royals, rank #1 and #2 in the Majors in hit by pitches, with Texas getting plunked 33 times and Kansas City tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for second with 29...Kansas City hasn t been hit by pitches with the same proficiency as it was earlier, with the Memorial Day plunking of Mike Moustakas only the second HBP of a Royal in the last 18 games after being drilled 26 times in the first 33 affairs... individually, the Royals have cornered the market in bruises with Alex Gordon leading the American League with nine, followed closely by Moose with his seventh on Memorial Day...Lorenzo Cain is lurking outside the top 10 with four. STILL ON TOP OF A.L. IN DIFFERENTIAL--Despite the recent 2-6 dry spell, Kansas City built up enough run differential equity in the early going to continue to lead the American League in that department with a +46, which is 11 runs better than runner-up Toronto (+35)...it must be a Missouri thing, as the St. Louis Cardinals are leading the National League and the Majors with a +69 differential. vs. Rangers (2015) vs. Rangers (career) At Home (career) Gonzalez (career) Rodriguez (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cain Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Morales Moustakas Perez Rios Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
