The Thunder scored two in the first to even the game up, then added solo runs in the fifth and sixth to take the lead for good. Three of their four runs came with two outs in an inning. Taylor Cole took the loss allowing four runs on ten hits over 5.2 innings. Mesa finished the game with two of the Fisher Cats eight hits. New Hampshire is just 1-5 on the road trip, but a win this morning will give them series victories in three of four sets to start the season. TONIGHT S STARTER: Casey Lawrence is on the hill for the third time this season after taking the loss on Friday night in New Britain. He allowed four runs over six innings in that game, giving up just five hits but walking three. The right has pitched at least six innings in both starts, and 11 of 14 overall dating back to In an interesting twist, Lawrence pitched just eight innings against the Thunder in 2014, but he didn t allow a run in three outings (one start). TROUBLE STARTING: The starting staff hasn t pulled its weight entirely yet. In 12 games the regular rotation has pitched, they have posted an ERA of 4.35 (29 ER, 60.0 IP). Even with Dustin Antolin s spot start with 2.2 scoreless on April 12, the starter s ERA is The bullpen, by comparison, has a nifty ERA of FALSE STARTS: The starters struggles are magnified when you consider the Fisher Cats have scored first in four straight games, but have been outscored in the first inning by a 5-4 margin in that time. HOMER HAPPY: The Fisher Cats didn t homer on Tuesday, but they still lead the league with 11 long balls, one ahead of Trenton. They are 0-5 when they fail to homer; 6-2 when they go deep. THE BOYD IS THE WOYD: Matt Boyd has flourished for the Fisher Cats, and has yet to give up a single run through his first three starts (comprising 14.1 innings pitched). His six whiffs in last night s game are the fewest he s posted in any start. GREAT EIGHT: The Fisher Cats plated seven runs in the eighth inning of last night s game against Trenton. It was the biggest inning for New Hampshire since the Fisher Cats scored eight on 7/7/13 against Binghamton. April by the Numbers Record 6-7 Home 5-2 Away 1-5 Team ERA 3.22 Starters ERA 4.16 Bullpen ERA 1.94 Team AVG.277 Runs/Game 3.69 Home Runs 11 Fisher Cats vs. Trenton Home 0-0 Away Home 4-6 Away 5-5 All-Time Home Away UNLUCKY SEVEN: The seventh inning has not been kind to the Fisher Cats this season, as opponents have outscored them 9-2 during that frame. However, New Hampshire holds a 13-2 advantage in scoring in the eighth. WHOOPS!: The Fisher Cats are having some trouble defensively in the early going this season; their 16 errors are the most of any Eastern League squad, and their.966 fielding percentage is better than just Portland s.965. By contrast, Trenton fielders have put up solid performances, notching a.979 fielding percentage and only allowing nine errors (second-fewest in the league). EXPERIENCE RULES: Of the 26 players on the preliminary roster, 21 have played in a Fisher Cats uniform prior to Of those five Fisher Cats rookies, only Dwight Smith and Shane Opitz have never played in Double-A. Two Fisher Cats - pitchers Luis Perez (SP, ) and Ricky Romero ( ) - played in N.H. in the last decade. CAN WE JUST FLIP A COIN?: Entering the series, the Fisher Cats and Thunder have been dead even when Trenton plays host, with a record (yes, really) in 100 games. The teams have now evenly split 102 games. FISHER CATS ALUMNI REPORT Dalton Pompey had his first big game for the Blue Jays, going 3-4 and scoring three runs in the Blue Jays 13-6 win over Baltimore. Kevin Pillar added two hits and two RBI while Ryan Goins went 2-4 with 3 RBI. Travis Snider had another solid game against his former team. He was 2-3 and is hitting.325. Chalk up two more hits for Anthony Gose for the Tigers. He s hitting a cool.406 for the 11-3 Tigers. Upcoming Games Probables Time Thursday, April 23 Binghamton RHP Gabriel Ynoa (1-0, 2.25) v.
