Burnett (2-2, 4.78) THE SEASON S FIRST PITT STOP: The Chicago Cubs arrive in Pittsburgh for their first meeting with the Pirates this season and aim to snap a nine-game losing streak, the club s longest skid in 10 years the Cubs began the trip by losing all three games in Houston leading into yesterday s off day. The nine-game slide is the club s longest drought of the season and their longest since May 8-18, 2002, also a nine-game drought... the Cubs tonight aim to avoid their first doubledigit losing streak since dropping the first 14 games of the 1997 campaign. The Cubs tonight also look to avoid only their 15th losing streak of 10 or more games in franchise history in addition to 1997, the Cubs have had only one other double-digit losing streak in the last 25 years, a 10-game drought from May 31-June 10, The Cubs went 12-9 in 21 games from April 21-May 14 but are 2-11 in their last 13 games Chicago is in its last 10 series after starting the campaign winless in its first five. Chicago has combined to score 75 runs in the club s 15 wins (5.0 runs per win), and combined to score 80 runs in 29 losses this season (2.8 runs per loss).
