The club s 17-hit attack leveled the series at 1. Alvarez put the Hooks on the board with a two-run shot to left field in the first. Midland answered right away, sending eight men to the plate in the home half for a 3-2 lead. Taylor Jones started his four-hit day with a two-run single to left field in the third, pushing the Hooks back in front, 4-3. Lorenzo Quintana made it 5-2 Corpus Christi with an RBI single in the fourth. Meanwhile, Yoanys Quiala rebounded from a rocky first by retiring 13 of the final 14 men he faced. Akeem Bostick earned the save, firing four innings of shutout ball. Bostick and Quiala teamed to hold Midland to three singles over the final eight innings. The Hooks salted the game by adding three markers over the final two innings. Josh Rojas RBI triple highlighted a two-run eighth, and the ninth began with Alvarez s second opposite-field shot of the afternoon. Alvarez also authored an outfield assist, throwing out Brett Siddall at home plate from left field in the sixth, maintaining what was a two-run lead at the time. GOING DEEP: OF Yordan Alvarez turned in his 2nd career multi-homer game yesterday. Alvarez s 2-dinger day Wednesday was the 2nd multi-homer performance by a Hooks player this season. ROJAS REACHING: IF Josh Rojas went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI triple, and 2 runs scored yesterday. Rojas, who has reached in 5 of 8 Double-A plate appearances, batted.311 with 20 runs, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, and 10 RBIs in 24 games for Buies Creek to start the season. The Arizona native worked 15 walks against 13 strikeouts in A-ball. Rojas also swiped 12 bags without being caught for the BC Astros. The 23-year-old was taken last year in the 26th round out of the University of Hawaii. Rojas played in 52 games for Quad Cities after being drafted, and closed out his first pro campaign by going 4-for-12 in the Pacific Coast League with Fresno. NUNN ADDED TO PEN: LHP Chris Nunn, who fired 4.1 shutout for the win in his Hooks debut last Saturday, is the newest addition to Corpus Christi s bullpen. Nunn, acquired by Houston the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft this past December, allowed 9 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks over 3 appearances (2.1 IP) for the Grizzlies to start the season. Nunn was originally selected by the Padres in the 24th round of the 2012 draft out of Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. The 27-year-old worked as a San Diego farmhand from 2012 to Nunn s best season was in 2013 when he went 8-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 9 saves in 55 games for Fort Wayne of the Midwest League. He struck out 66 and walked 30 in 65 innings. Nunn made 47 appearances in 2015, which includes a 7-game run at San Antonio. After missing the 2016 season, Nunn signed with Milwaukee in April 2017, but did not appear in the Brewers system. He was signed by Evansville of the independent Frontier League in late-august and made 1 start for the Otters, allowing 1 ER in 5.0 innings of work. Nunn, who makes his home in Memphis, TN, was then picked up by the Cubs and assigned to Double-A Tennessee. He posted a 4.76 ERA in 4 Southern League starts. Nunn is 20-5 while averaging 10.0 strikeouts and 5.1 walks per 9 innings as a pro.
