1 Head Coach: Tim Beaman Assistants: Miguel Gonzalez, Denny McNamara & Virgil Rook TCHS Baseball Record: (.715) JV Head Coach: Virgil Rook JV Assistants: Tim Casler TCHS Baseball Rules and Expectations Philosophy - (I believe it is a privilege to be a member of the TCHS baseball program), if you decide not to accept these responsibilities you will not be included in our program. The goal for the varsity is to improve the player s skills and teach them to compete at a high level. The best 9 players will play and be starters. The JV team s goals are to develop a passion for the game and improve strength, skills, and baseball knowledge with the goal of preparing them to become a varsity player. Winning is important, but development is our main goal. With both teams, playing time is EARNED and not guaranteed. The following guidelines have been established by the district schools and coaching staffs. All players are expected to adhere to the following team rules and expectations. 1. Grades: - All players must have a 2.0 GPA. - All players must attend class and be on time. - All players will not skip class or leave campus without permission. Consequences: - Below a 2.0 GPA your son will be ineligible for the season. - Being tardy to class will result in extra field preparation. (Pulling weeds, staying later to help coaches clean up facilities) - Skipping class, getting a referral, getting suspended or leaving school without permission will result in a 1 game suspension on 1 st offense, 2 nd offense will be a week suspension and 3 rd offense will result in dismissal. 2. Coaches Commandments: - Pay Attention - Work Hard - Do your Job - Team Comes First 3. Player Rules: You represent TCHS, your family and the program. Do NOT argue with umpires or opposing players or coaches. 1. Never throw any equipment at a practice or in a game. 2. Uniforms will be worn correctly and be clean for all games on the field and in the dugout. o Shirts will be tucked in at all times. o Hats will be worn correctly and the bill will always be facing the front. o No earrings will be worn at baseball or school during the season. o There will be no individual uniform decorations to set you apart from the rest of the team.

2 3. Do NOT use foul language. 4. Run out all fly balls and groundouts. Sprint to your position. Play the game hard. 5. Players are expected to be on the dugout fence during the entire game rooting for their teammates. The only exception is the Pitcher and Catcher may sit down. 6. All players are to greet their teammates when coming off the field after three outs have been recorded defensively. 7. Players are not to talk to family, friends and other students in the stands before and during the game. (Consequence of the above will result in the player being benched immediately) 8. Players should be on time to all practices including BP before Games. On time means- if practice or BP starts at 4:00PM then you are ready to go at 4:00PM not walking into the dugout. This means that everything is set up and you are stretching by the start of practice time. Excused tardiest are as follows: School work- must have a signed note from your teacher Signed note from Doctor or Trainer (Consequence of the above will result in the player being benched immediately and being benched for the next game) 9. Do not walk between the lines at any time 10. Do not interrupt the flow of practice 11. Never blame a teammate for a mistake 12. Respect your teammates and encourage them, as you would want to be respected and encouraged. 13. Players are to respect coaches and be coachable. 14. It is the player s responsibility to warm up properly. 15 minutes will be allotted at the beginning of each practice. If player doesn t warm up properly he doesn t practice. 15. There will be no use of tobacco on the field or in the dug out (Consequences of above will result in extra conditioning, extra field duties, and or player will be sent home.) 16. No use of cell phones during practice/games. All cell phones are to be turned off or put on silent and not to be brought out during practices or games. 1 st offense will result in extra field preparation and conditioning. 2 nd offense will result in a week suspension. Each additional offense will result in an additional week suspension. 17. Spring Break Tournament- When you sign up to play varsity baseball then you signed up to play in a spring break tournament. All players will attend the tournament. For every game a player misses during spring break he will be benched that amount of games starting the following week. 18. Missing school day of a game- If a player misses school the day of a game he cannot play in the game that day. The Player will also be benched for the following game as well. If it happens more than once you will be suspended for four games. 4. Off- field actions:

3 All players will be expected to demonstrate being good citizens as defined by the Code of Conduct of OCPS. This includes, s, Twitter, Instagram and/or any other social media sites. Each case will be dealt with the assistance of the Athletic Director and TCHS Administration 5. Out of season off- field actions: All players will be expected to demonstrate being a good citizen out of season as well. Players are a reflection of the baseball team in season and out of season. The coaches will deal with each case individually. There will be a minimum of one game suspension up to 2 weeks of game suspensions. 6. Missed Practices or Games: If you miss a meeting, practice or a game, you must notify the coaches in advance. Unexcused absences will result in: - If you miss a practice before a game, you will not play that game. - If it happens more than once, you will be suspended for 4 games. - If you miss a game, you will be suspended for 4 games (Excused absences are: Note from the Doctor or Trainer, a signed note from your teacher, and if you stay home from school for sickness you must have a signed note from your parent.) 7. Use of Drugs and Alcohol: The use or possession of drugs or alcohol in any form will not be tolerated. The consequence will be the player will be removed from the baseball team for the season. 8. Transportation: All players riding on a bus will conduct themselves as gentlemen. Going to games there will be no talking and full concentration on their responsibilities in the game. After wins players should act like they have won before and horse play will not be tolerated. - Games that do not provide buses or transportation, players must ride with their parents or a parent that is cleared with OCPS additions. Players are prohibited to ride to away games with another player. 9. Care of Equipment: Loss or damage to school equipment will be the player s responsibility to replace at the cost of new equipment. (We are the best- dressed High School team in Central Florida, please respect the equipment.) 10. Field Duties for players: Players will draw for their field duties. If a players field duty is not done to the liking of the coaches then the entire team will get extra conditioning and field work. 11. Dealing with a Problem: Should a player have a problem or issue with a teammate or coach, it is encouraged that the player/parent/guardian works this out with the coaches. If that attempt fails and the issue is not resolved please contact Jim Priest our Athletic Director at ext or james.priest@ocps.net. 12. Earning a letter: A player will earn a letter for varsity if he makes the varsity team and remains on the team the entire year. If a player is moved up and down between JV and Varsity he will have to meet the following criteria to letter: 1. A pitcher must throw a minimum of 15 innings at the varsity level.

4 2. A position player must receive at least 25 plate appearances, or played in 9 games of some kind of capacity. 13. Parents/Code of Sportsmanship and conduct: Along with our members of OCPS, TCHS has formulated a code for students and parents/guardians to try to make good sportsmanship a habit in the school and at the activities. Please read carefully. - Parents are not to come into the dugout or talk to your son one hour before the game or during the game. (Consequences of this will be that the player will be asked to leave the dugout and sit with the parent in the stands) Let your son play the game and be coached by the coaches. If he experiences set backs, only encourage him to focus on his next opportunity. - Play time- I will not discuss playtime with parents or players. I will discuss what the player has to do better to improve his overall game. - Remember as a spectator, you represent our school as much as any team member. The representation of our school is much more important than being a poor sport. - Learn the rules of the game so that you can be an intelligent spectator. - Support our team enthusiastically, but with consideration and respect for opponents. - Remember officials are humans too; they are doing their best!! - Show class to opponents and their spectators, TCHS is the High School model. - Be considerate of any injuries to our team or to our opponents. - Be mature in your behavior, set good examples of sportsmanship and class. This is what our program is all about! - Cooperate and follow the directions of any and all administrators in charge of the contest. 14. Ten Commandments for Parents/Guardians of student athletes: 1. Make sure your students know that win, lose, scared or heroic, YOU LOVE THEM and love their effort. 2. Try your best to be completely honest about your son s ability, competitive attitude, sportsmanship and effort. 3. Be helpful, but don t coach them on the way to the field or on the way back home. 4. Teach them the thrill of competition; try your best and always work harder than the next guy. 5. Try not to relive YOUR athletic life through your son. This will only create pressure. 6. Refrain from competing with the coach. 7. Restrain from comparing the skill, courage, or attitudes of your son with other members of the team. 8. Get to know your son s coaches so that you can be assured that their philosophy, attitudes, ethics and knowledge are such that you are happy to have your son under their leadership. 9. Remember your son will exaggerate, both when praised and when criticized. Temper your reactions and investigation before over- reacting. Suggest that they talk to a coach if they are upset or confused. 10. Make a point of understanding courage and the fact that it is relative. Explain to your son that courage is not the absence of fear, but means of doing something in spite of fear or discomfort. The job of a parent/guardian of an athletic student is a tough one, and it takes a lot of effort to do it well!!!
