RHP James Shields makes his third start for the White Sox, who who opened the trip last night with a 3-2 loss to the Indians. Following this three-game series, the Sox conclude the trip with four games in Boston (6/20-23) before returning to Chicago for six games vs. Toronto (6/24-26) and Minnesota (6/28-30). The White Sox went 4-5 on their last homestand vs. Washington (1-2), Kansas City (1-2) and Detroit (2-1) from 6/7-15 and 2-7 on their last trip to Kansas City (0-3), the Mets (2-1) and Detroit (0-3) from 5/26-6/5. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES The White Sox have lost 12 of their last 15 road games after starting the season 13-5 away from home. James Shields is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA (5 ER/27.0 IP) over his last four starts against Cleveland. Shields has allowed 24 runs over his last three starts, the most by a pitcher over a three-start stretch since Kansas City's Sean O'Sullivan from 5/22-6/2/11 (STATS). Chicago is batting.295 (43-146) with 25 runs scored over the last four games. Jose Abreu is hitting.354 (17-48) with three home runs, 11 RBI, and seven multihit efforts over his last 12 games Abreu is a.319 (52-163) hitter with 12 homers and 27 RBI in 42 career games against the Indians. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Carlos Santana led off the ninth inning with a solo home run to center fi eld on an 0-2 pitch from Nate Jones as the Indians posted a 3-2 win in the series opener. Chicago tied the game in the top of the ninth on consecutive one-out doubles by Brett Lawrie and Avisail Garcia off Indians closer Cody Allen, but J.B. Shuck and Tim Anderson followed with strikeouts to end the threat. Jose Quintana posted a no decision despite allowing two runs on seven hits over 7.2 IP to lower his ERA to 2.63, fourth-best in the American League Quintana received one run of support, his seventh straight start with one or zero (see note below). Garcia collected two of Chicago's seven hits, and Adam Eaton hit his major-league leading seventh triple. HELP WANTED Jose Quintana is the fi rst White Sox pitcher to receive zero or one run of support over seven consecutive starts since Ross Baumgarten from 6/21-8/24/80 (STATS). Quintana has gone 0-6 with a 3.86 ERA (20 ER/46.2 IP) over his last seven starts, receiving a total of fi ve runs of support (0.96 RSA), after going 5-1 with a 1.38 ERA (7 ER/45.1 IP) over his fi rst seven (4.73 RSA). 1-2 PUNCH Tim Anderson (No. 1) and Adam Eaton (No. 2) have combined to go (.410) with three doubles, two triples, three RBI and nine runs scored in four games since being moved to the 1-2 spots in the lineup on 6/13. Anderson has three multihit efforts in his fi rst seven majorleague games after leading the International League with 25. Eaton leads the major leagues this season with seven triples and tops the majors with 26 since the start of the 2014 season. SOX AND THE CWS C Zack Collins, the White Sox fi rst-round pick (10th overall) in this year's draft from the University of Miami (Fla.), is currently participating in the College World Series. The Hurricanes play their fi rst game tonight against Arizona at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2 the other two teams in Miami's bracket are Oklahoma State and UC-Santa Barbara. The other CWS bracket includes Florida, Coastal Carolina, Texas Tech and Texas Christian. Sox manager Robin Ventura played for Oklahoma State from and led the Cowboys to consecutive CWS appearances in OF Jason Coats graduated from TCU in SETTING SALE Chris Sale became the fi rst 11-game winner in the major leagues on Wednesday vs. Detroit (since joined by Jake Arrieta). He also was the fi rst American League pitcher to reach 10 wins, becoming the fi rst Sox pitcher since Jon Garland in 2005 to accomplish the feat (STATS). Sale struck out seven batters in his last start to move past Gary Peters (1,098) and John Danks (1,102) into sixth place in White Sox history with 1,104. WHITE SOX VS. CLEVELAND INDIANS The Indians have won four straight games to take a 5-2 lead in the season series. Chicago is hitting.222/.292/.374 with a 4.65 ERA (32 ER/62.0 IP) and has been outscored by Cleveland, The White Sox went 6-3 at Progressive Field in 2015, including a four-game sweep from 7/23-26 in which they outscored the Indians, 26-5 by comparison, they were a combined 3-15 in Cleveland from The Sox lead the all-time series, 1,068-1,041 they are at home ( at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road (89-93 at Progressive Field). LACK OF CENTRAL COMMAND The White Sox are vs. the American League Central this season, losing 13 of their last 16 games following a 9-3 start. The Sox have gone vs. the AL Central since 2009, with their only winning record coming in 2012 (37-35). LET'S GET DEFENSIVE The White Sox lead the American League and rank third in the majors with a.989 fi elding percentage, up from.983 last season when they ranked 13th in the AL. The Sox have been errorless in 35 of their last 42 games since 5/1, including a franchise-record, 12-game streak from 5/1-14 (433 total chances) and a 10-game streak from 5/ Chicago has turned two triple plays this season (4/22 vs. Texas and 5/17 vs. Houston), the first team to accomplish the feat since Philadelphia in PITCHING PROWESS The White Sox rank third in the American League this season with 37 quality starts and fourth with a 3.90 ERA. The Sox have allowed one or no runs in 19 of 67 games this season (28.4 percent), the third-most in the major leagues behind San Francisco (20) and the Cubs (20), and rank fourth in games allowing four hits or less (11). QUALITY AND QUANTITY The White Sox have made 1,194 quality starts since 2003, second-most in the majors behind the Mets (1,205) the Sox rank third in the American League with 37 quality starts in OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier is tied for third in the major leagues with 19 home runs, one behind Colorado's Nolan Arendado and Baltimore's Mark Trumbo he is on pace to hit 46, which would be three short of the franchise record of 49 set by Albert Belle in Bill Melton (1971) and Dick Allen (1972 and '74) are the only players in White Sox history to lead the American League in homers no Sox player has ever led the majors. RALLY CAPS The White Sox recorded their largest come-from-behind victory in 14 years on 7/13 vs. Detroit, rallying from a 7-0 defi cit to defeat the Tigers, 10-9, in 12 innings. Detroit led, 7-0, before the Sox scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, three times in the fi fth and twice in the ninth to force extra innings and set up their largest comeback win since 6/28/02 vs. the Cubs. FROM THE TRAINING ROOM Austin Jackson underwent surgery on Wednesday in Los Angeles to debride and remove a small portion of the medial meniscus in his left knee Jackson will be on crutches for two weeks and reexamined in four weeks. RHP Jake Petricka (torn labrum in his right hip) and RHP Daniel Webb (Tommy John) both underwent surgeries on 6/10. Petricka will likely miss the remainder of the season after his labrum was repaired and debrided in a procedure in Denver Webb will miss the rest of the season after his ulnar collateral ligament was successfully repaired in Cincinnati.
