1 Arkansas 10 (40-24), Bucknell 0 ( ) ARKANSAS With the win Arkansas is now all-time in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, and 2-0 against the Bison. Both the wins against Bucknell have come in the NCAA tournament s regional round. After a two-year drought the Razorbacks reached the 40-win mark, for the sixth time in the last eight years. The Razorbacks loaded the bases with one out with a pair of singles and a walk. Arkansas then used four consecutive RBI singles to take a 4-0 edge. Eric Fisher, Tyler Spoon, Kriston Wilkerson and Alex Gosser each recorded a run batted in during the span. After being shutout by UVa last night and scoring three total runs in their first two games, Arkansas put four on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. The Razorbacks roped nine hits total in the two games prior to Sunday s contest, in the first inning Arkansas posted six singles, finishing with 16 hits. Arkansas matched a season high with 16 hits. Arkansas also had 16 hits May 4 at Ole Miss. Junior starter Jalen Beeks made his first start since May 3 at Ole Miss, returning from shoulder soreness. The southpaw went 5.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowing three hits and striking out nine. The nine strikeouts from Beeks tied a career high, equaling the junior s performance against Florida on March 14. Freshman Alex Gosser made his first start of the tournament behind the plate, picking up a pair of hits in his first two at-bats. Gosser finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. In the third inning Brian Anderson roped his third triple of the season into right-center field. Arkansas reached the double-digit hit plateau for the 25th time this season, and for the first time in four games. When facing elimination in NCAA Tournament history Arkansas has totaled ten or more runs seven times, all wins. All nine Arkansas hitters in the starting lineup picked up a hit. Eric Fisher has recorded a hit in each of the Hogs three NCAA Tournament games. In the tournament Fisher is 4-for-12 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kriston Wilkerson made his first start of the tournament going 1-for-3, with one RBI and one run scored. Five different Razorbacks produced multiple hits in the win (Clark Eagan, Brian Anderson, Eric Fisher, Tyler Spoon and Alex Gosser). In all seven Razorbacks collected an RBI for the Hogs. For the second time this year Clark Eagan collected three hits a career-high. Arkansas only used one reliever, junior Jackson Lowery, to go a season-high 4.0 innings to pick up his first career save. After yielding three overall hits to Bucknell in the first and second inning, Arkansas did not surrender anymore the remainder of the game.

2 Arkansas 10 (40-24), Bucknell 0 ( ) BUCKNELL With the loss Bucknell is now 2-12 in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, and 0-2 against Arkansas. The two losses to the Razorbacks have come in the NCAA Tournament (2004). The 31 wins by the Bison matched a school record set by the 1998 and 2001 teams. The Bison have won at least one game in two of their last three appearances in the regional round. In the first inning of Bucknell s three games in Charlottesville the Bison have allowed a run in each contest, with seven runs put up by the opposition in those games. Bucknell posted back-to-back singles from sophomore Jon Mayer and freshman Sam Clark in the second inning. The two Bison moved up 90-feet after a wild pitch but were left stranded after a pair of strikeouts and a groundout ended the frame. From the third inning on the Bison were unable to record any more hits. The Bison put a runner into scoring position in the second, third, seventh and the eighth but couldn t bring the runner home. For the 16th time this year the Bison gave up 10 or more hits to an opponent, the 16 hits are the most allowed by Bucknell, tying a mark twice reached this season (Navy, May 10 and Yale, March 10). The Bison gave up a combined 22 runs during their three-game stay in the NCAA Regional. Bucknell also gave up double-digit runs in two of its three contests. In Bucknell s 13 NCAA Tournament games the Bison have allowed opponents to score 10 or more runs seven times. The Patriot League team mustered three hits against Arkansas, it marked the 10th time this year the Bison recorded three or fewer hits. All three Bucknell hits came from the middle of the lineup (3-4-5) with Joe Ogren, Jon Mayer and Sam Clark recording a single.

That first inning is when the new guys got a chance to hit and they hit. It was good to see [Krisjon] Wilkerson get a hit and [Alex] Gosser got a hit, and I think we got six hits in the first. They got us the lead and after that it was basically playing defense and throwing strikes, and we did that for the most part. Once we got ahead I think our defense got lax but sometimes that is to be expected. On why he chose to pitch Jalen and who will pitch against U.Va.: First off, we decided to go to Jalen because we didn t really know who to pitch. We knew we were going to use Jalen today sometime. Those things just went incredibly well. The more that I talked to Coach Jorn about it we wanted somebody who had started. I mean, if we lose this game, we re done. Bucknell was coming off a big win and they had a lot more time off than us. We were disappointed that we lost. I got five, six hours of sleep maybe and I don t know what the boys got. We were just thinking we needed to be safe. Maybe he can give us 50, 60 pitches and he ended up throwing 75, or whatever. He basically wouldn t let us take him out after the fourth. Glad he got through that. We ll start [Zach] Jackson. On the offensive momentum and if it will help tonight: It sure doesn t hurt. There is a big difference in pitching between last night s pitching and today s pitching. We did what we needed to do and that was good. A lot of times you go out and you don t get over it. The team did a good job of finding a way and jumping on quick. Hopefully that will be a little bit of momentum. [Virginia] has another good one going tonight and they have two or three good ones that are ready to go. They ve got a lot of pitching and a lot of momentum. We are going to have to play a perfect game tonight. Jalen Beeks On how much he expected to pitch today: I actually haven t felt any pain in the last three, four days - so I really didn t know what to expect. I just told them I d go as long as I can. I know we have to save pitching to get through these next few games. I just wanted to go as long as I can to help the staff out a little bit. On what getting five innings in with the draft coming up means for him: It is a lot easier to pitch with a defense like I have behind me. I wasn t really thinking about the draft. I play for Arkansas still. If I come back next year, I don t really know what will happen with that. But Arkansas is my dream. It was my first dream. Wherever after that is bonus. On when he found out he would be starting today and if he expected to pitch: I really didn t know. They told me about an hour after the game. I m sure they had to discuss it. I was ready for anything. I knew I was going to have to pitch, especially after we lost. We have to win three games. I knew I was going to have to pitch I just didn t know when. On if he lobbied to pitch: No, no, I just told them I was healthy. Coach [Van Horn] said after a month of not throwing you do not really know what to expect. That s always in the back of their minds, but I just wanted to come out and do the best I could.

4 POST-GAME QUOTES Arkansas (39-24) vs. Bucknell ( ) Bucknell University Quotes Bucknell Head Coach Scott Heather Opening Statement: I thought Arkansas came out swinging their bats really well and jumped on us right away, putting us on our heels. Andrew [Andreychik] came out with a little more velocity than he usually has, but it brought him up in zone and flattened him out a little bit. They jumped on him right away, getting some runs on the board. I am disappointed with our performance offensively. I thought we took a lot of good fastballs to hit and swung at the off-speed out of the zone, which is the opposite of what we want to do. Arkansas took it to us today and went out and won the ball game On Andrew Andreychik s pitching: That first hit wasn't hit very well, and then he walked the next guy. He started to fall behind and got in fastball situations and they jumped on him a little bit. They came out ready to go. That is a tough thing to do, to lose an emotional game the night before and come back they next morning ready to play in that first inning. I give them a lot of credit for their toughness. On Arkansas pitcher Jalen Beeks; I thought he did a great job establishing his fastball in the first inning. We are in the dugout trying to get our guys fastball ready and we had a situation where we had some guys in scoring position and he started to use his breaking ball. We got in some tough counts to hit. I was impressed with him. He had a good velocity and moved the ball to both sides. He surprised us with some inside fastballs. I think our guys had a hard time picking up his breaking ball. We were letting the strikes go by and swinging at balls out of the zone. On the future of the program: The future is bright, for sure. It is exciting to get our feet wet in the NCAA tournament. We certainly want to compete better than we did today. This was a disappointing end for us, but a lot to build on with the way the guys played and with so many young guys contributing. We need to take the next step, which is fully competing in the national level, being in games and having the opportunity to win against a team like Arkansas. On the regional teams: Definitely a tough regional. All three teams had their strengths that could impact games. Liberty with their power hitting and quality pitching. Arkansas does it with quality pitching and a great approach offensively. If they bring that against UVa, they will have a good shot at winning. UVa is what they always are with pitching and defense as their strengths. They are probably the most complete team I have seen in my time in college baseball. They have power, speed, quality arms on the mound and certainly have a great change to get out of the regional and a great chance to win it all. Arkansas will give them a run for their money tonight.

I can t say enough about our team and our coaches who have prepared us all year. We did a great job battling all year and played a lot of good baseball but Arkansas was just a better team today. That is the way you want to go out. You don't want to beat yourself you want to be beat by the other team. I am proud of the way we played this year. On Arkansas Pitcher Jalen Beeks: Definitely seemed like he was trying to get us with his fast ball early on in the game. He used some great sliders later on. He is definitely a great pitcher.
